Yeah they played alright, played on eachother balls. The Greeks were a bunch of faggots. The men would do sports in the nude. Women were no more than baby factors.
What an interesting topic. Pity this guy's such a total bore! WOW, it really helps my understanding of the topic to hear someone read from a textbook in a total monotone! Why has he even uploaded these videos? Does he imagine it would generate business for his school? I can;t imagine anything more cruel than sending one's children to have to tolerate this!
wait u contradicted ur self u said u want to study Greece the same way u described the analysis of the USA but u mentioned that ur taking a certain approach (certain historical context) how is this understanding deep?
what about other approaches
interestingly enough the Land known as the Americas were there b4 Columbus landed.
to miss this can only be described as looking at history with filters...and I thought you would be against such feeble tactics into analysis. but the series are amazing
No I didn't learn about ancient greece in school. I discovered it on my own and recognized it as valuable. I used to read about the ancients in the library on my own.
My teachers got away w/ saying the Greeks are important, but they were too bashful to say *why* the Greeks are important, as they (or at least their cherished colleagues) think it would be promoting the "logo-centrism" and "racist white male property-centric patriarchy" of "dead white guys."
They talk a lot about the Greek practice of homosexuality, but not so much about how Aristotle pioneered so many different sciences.
It would be so neat to have played some of the greece games, we can imagine :)
Your insight into the the games is quite interesting and soundly agree they had some wonderful festivals.
Greece was such a rich culture in so many ways and i was taught some things about Greece but your right about not being taught about them in its extent.
To me it was painted as almost barbarism, interpretation maybe?
Ancient Greece is as awesome as he presents only in a very certain retrospect.

Cropper, if you have not already researched Schiller's concept of spieltrieb, or the sport (or play) instinct, I suggest you do so.

In short, the Greeks where special because spieltrieb was most free in them.
