We only seem to have this problem in the developed world. When I worked in Tanzania, it was desirable to be fat - I don't mean 'normal' I mean 'be as big as you can possibly be' - it was a symbol of your wealth, as fat Tanzanians were the ones who could afford all the food they wanted. (it was also desirable to bleach your skin white, but that's another story).

However I suffer from bdd and eating disordered thinking. Think next time you say something like "the girl in the mirror is NOT gorgeous. the girl in the mirror is over weight." You never know just how much those words can hurt.
if you could subliminally influence your thoughts and channel them into desires, which is how a thought is made, will help you not only to feel better but to improve on any level you want. Not giving in to thoughts, means not giving in to desires, which leads to refraining from bad behavior.

seeing the skin and bones on her made me sad. The girl in the mirror is MUCH more beautiful. Im bigboned and fairly muscular, but thats cuz I workout a lot and play a lot of sports, so therefore I need the energy to do that. Ppl might think Im fat but guess what? She just needs to tone up some but...with media and models...some girls feel like they are never skinny enough. bad thing is, if they do exercise and lose fat but gain muscle....when they step on the scale, they weigh more which makes them want to try to lose more..

@tilliez sorry to burst your bubble, but the girl in the mirror is more or less my size. I weigh 130 pounds, stand 5'8" am an athlete, and am generally healthy. However I suffer from bdd and eating disordered thinking. Think next time you say something like "the girl in the mirror is NOT gorgeous. the girl in the mirror is over weight." You never know just how much those words can hurt.

yes, it's very scary. how it starts, people starve themselves. when they're hungry they don't eat &. that causes hunger pain. i've felt it too. it's awful & it leads to death. it's out of control anyway. people especially models & celebrities avoid food @ parties & meetings. i've seen it. even worse people smoke to stay thin. the girl in the mirror is very pretty. she could stay thin by eating healthy & excercising.
