Many people have served in the military of countries they are not citizens of. Americans served in Canada. Some Irish Americans defected to Mexico to fight against the United States. Casimir Pulaski fought for America in the Revolution.

It is , however, not legal for illegal aliens to serve in the US military. Therefore, no illegal alien serves in the US Army and then has to fight for citizenship.
