E-Z Pop's parent company Taylor-Reed went belly-up in 1980, and lost a patent infringement suit against Mennen Food Products, makers of Jiffy Pop, in 1963. Seems Jiffy Pop's spiral foil pattern was an improvement on E-Z Pop's "button" pattern.
I'm 64 and I memorized this whole commercial as a kid. I was talking along with the video .... even though I'm all alone. Very scary ! That was a "blast from the past"....Thank you :)
Justin starts at 3 add 1 hour 4 Add 30 mintues because he was doin' some drama 4:30 Then I gave him an extra 10 minutes because Mommy was using computer 4:40 Now I get 1 hour 30 min. Add 1 hour 30 min 6:10
According to this old commercial, E-Z Pop which is now Jiffy Pop. Thurl Ravenscroft did that song in a TV commercial. He also appeared in a number of Disneyland LP's as well as Disney attractions like the "Pirates of the Caribbean" and the "Haunted Mansion" where he sang lead on "Grin Grinning Ghosts".
E-Z Pop and Jiffy Pop were two different products. E-Z Pop had the original patent and was sold by the Taylor-Reed company, makers of Cocoa Marsh. Fred Mennen, who sold his Jiffy Pop through American Home Products (now ConAgra) improved on the design without getting a new patent. Taylor-Reed sued, and the Jiffy Pop people were found guilty of patent infringement. However, this was overturned on appeal because Jiffy Pop had an improved design for the expanding foil bag.
According to Hoyle. It's an old expression, meaning, 'going by the rules.' Hoyle was an English lawyer in the 1700s who wrote the first book of rules for card-playing (whist, the early form of bridge).
