  • Sure, let me just pull the parking brake... HOLD THE PHONE!!! Isn't this Hot Shots 2??!!

  • position and hold during arrival? o.o

  • that was retarded

  • Man, what if the atc didn't corrected himself?

  • It's no big deal... the ATC probably dealt with one of those VSTOL airliners moments earlier.

  • hahahahahahaha that music was awesome

  • that's nice.. to forget that an aircraft is inbound -.-.

  • "Position and hold" what is he supposed to do, hover?!

  • Been cleared to land while holding short before. Honest mistake.

  • POSITION AND HOLD IS NOW LlNE UP AND WAIT DUE TO INTERNATIONAL PROTOCAL (ICAO)...

  • @08turboSS from the 7110.65?

  • @08turboSS VIDEO WAS UPLOADED MORE THAN 3 YEARS AGO...

  • @spambuster Yeah :)

  • That was actually runway 4R

  • Its the simple mistake, the ATC was talking to the other aircraft, and thinking about the next instructions to give,

So when he was meant to say "clear to land" he gave them the next instruction for that aircraft on the ground.

  • @isilder true but suppose ATC went vice-versa on these two calls?

  • Here's what happened: the plane at 0:12 was already at 103020 feet, after taking off, and called to say that they were over the "marker", which is a radio beacon a few miles past the runway. They then said "position and hold", which has to do with lining up ON the runway. (if they were on the runway, that'd be a problem)

  • Singapore Airline.... FTW!!

  • ahahahahahaha that question mark and the sound is awesome!

  • Maybe I'm a dumb-ass, but I don't get it. Could be the beer.

  • Disregard that, i suck cocks.

  • i laugh every time i see this

  • Who is the cunt who put this piece of shit up?

  • Were you sitting in Malév 090?

  • the conversation is not really funny but the sound with the question mark ^^

  • You made this whole video over a slip of the tongue, including the circus sounds??

  • Hahahaha. I told tower once I was holding short and he told me to go around lol! Those guys get stressed out lol

  • "Roger, just let me hover my aircraft"

  • the funniest part wasthe question mark and music haha

  • @chestateegold ha yea ur right :)

  • @chestateegold lmao you are absolutely right. I know the pilots was like wtf? and the tower supe was probably askin the local controller, who the hell are you tellin to taxi to position and hold.

  • @chestateegold LOL YER RIGHT

  • Yep I've done that before. I felt like such an idiot. The whole tower was laughing.

  • i can do ATC... listen... "United 7765, you are cleared to land in the parking lot.... uhhhhh....please contact the valet for further instructions... uhhhhh..... hold on 7765, my pop tart is done. i'm gonna eat it and i'll get back to you.... uhhhhh... continue circling and hold..... uhhhhh..........." (pretty good, huh?)

  • What's your vector, Victor?

  • Roger Dodger.

  • The atc just wasn't paying attention

  • ATCNICK

    > The ATC just wasn't paying attention.

It ws not because the air traffic controller whose voice can be heard was occupied with and titillated with pride over having his 7yo direct other flights, was it?

  • its pretty easy to mean something and the vocals do something completely different because the brain capacity to monitor the vocals just ain't there. Watching 3 aircraft that don't want to read back their full instructions and just say roger, will do it pretty quickly.

  • @atcnick he was, or else he wouldn't have called to the plane at that time. I do it now and again in the sim. I'm looking right at the plane, want it to do exactly what I know it needs to do, but then I say contact departure when i shoulda said contact ground.

  • Time for a shift change!

Either that, or time for more traffic.

  • at first I thought he wanted you to go around and hold but then he said a runway lol

  • Didn't think a jet could position and hold midair.

  • lol position and hold for a landing... a new protocol maybe XD

  • Haha perhaps. If they could just hold in midair that might make controller's lives a hell of a lot easier.

  • no more traffic calls... and vectoring would be pretty damn awesome.

  • position and hold on final? That wasn't part of my training.

  • like the drum role

  • LOL

  • lol maurjul that would be the best rofl

  • lol, its the most stressful job on the planet, responsible for millions of dollars and lives. And its not uncommon or a mistake like this.

they have 15 minute shifts and 30 minute breaks

  • lol! 15 minute shifts??? where do you get that from?

shifts are an hour to an hour and a half, and than they get a 30 minute break.

  • @EveningsGlory an actual controller.....

  • @bajesus666 well bajesus666 you made my day or my last 15 min at least ;) @evenings its the same here at the AustroControl and i guess afaik at the DFS in germany, well @baje you are aware after every break controllers are to be briefed at least 15 min prior to there shift ;)

  • @EveningsGlory yeah I can confirm, 90min on, 30 off for NATS (UK) controlers over an 8hr shift. Not sure about American, but would have thought it would be similar.

  • thats what i thought, thanks!

thats how it is in Canada too btw

  • depends on the facility

  • true, but I'm going by what I know of the busiest facilities. I could see it being a bit different in New York, or maybe Chicago, but yeah.

  • its like there speaking a different language :(

  • @StormJordan15 the language of ATC! a hard language to learn, I should know!

  • @airforce82 not after you get used to it but it is a whole other language that drives you crazy. oh shit radar contact lost

  • i would have simply said "roger, position and hold" after i land i'd just stay in position half way down the runway. lol

  • @maurjul and then get an immediate pilot deviation for landing without clearance.

  • @maurjul yeah...and if you had done that i hope 7-3 or bigger would have ran up your ass. controllers are human...we make mistakes to, but notice how the controller corrected himself almost immediately.

  • @bubu101502 well i'm an ATC so i know and i've made mistakes such as this already. i realy meant that comment to be something to laugh at and not something for someone to take to heart thinking i'm serious.

  • Comment removed

  • shitt happens.

  • lol haha:P

  • Position and Hold at Mid Air?! Holy Shit...

  • I did that once, in training... "Wizzair 123X, wind, RWY 29 cleared to land" - he was waiting for take-off... Only thing I can say for my defence is that it was 6am and I didn't have my morning coffee yet. Still, the pilot took it with humour, so all's well.

  • It was probibly him just switching positions in the tower, ive said tower when I was on ground and vice versa but never cleared one to land when on the ground

  • I've been cleared to land when I needed taxi clearance to parking. Skeleton staffing at nights, scarey!

  • I don't get it.

  • Tower cleared the aircraft on final to enter the runway and hold position ready for takeoff (position and hold). Then tower realised and corrected the clearance to "cleared to land". Bit of a strange title though, I'd say.

  • Gay

  • Happy or homosexual?

  • lol

  • i had a chick in david wayne hooks tower tell me i was cleared to taxi to parking and i was actually already outside of her airspace. she got a good kick outa it.

  • Didn't know ground controllers had 'airspace'. Anyway, if you were outside the vicinity of the aerodrome you wouldn't be on tower frequency. So dumb.

  • Some towers have control over both the ground and local positions at certain times of the day. I wouldn't be going around calling everyone dumb.

  • Can you let me criticise stupid comments in peace? Thank you.

  • Correct! Depending on what time of day it is and where an aircraft needs to go, tower controllers can issue the taxi instructions and never have an aircraft contact ground control.

  • Agreed.

  • That wasn't ground, it was local control. Ground doesn't have authority to position and hold aircraft.

  • Yep. Ground only has authority when the aircraft is on the ground and is stating 1) Where the aircraft is. 2) What the name of the aircraft is. 3) What their destination and so forth.

  • and whether or not taxi clearance is required

  • Exactly. :D

  • Comment removed

  • no because im flying in class e airspace i can be on any frequency i want. Some controllers in some areas are both ground control and tower control so they get mixed up at times. but yes i coudlve been on a different frequency and never had hear the tx. I stayed on the frequency since i was flying close to her airpace. making sure where traffic is coming from.

  • How unusual you seem to be.

  • Yawn Yawn.

  • 0:32 what does he say?

  • it was the pilot reading back his landing clearance.

  • "Roger that, cleared to land, Malev niner-zero"

  • lol, no he didn't.... the LC just told him to TPH (a plane on the ground to get on the runway and wait for takeoff clearance) the guy was in the air and obviously knew it was a mistake.. BTW those sound effects are stupid!!!! >:(

  • haha, XD position and hold ; is gonne be hard in midair

  • OH BUT SWEETHEART. There is NO 'probably' IN ATC. HELLO?

  • no, there is no probably. all actions and control instructions must be specific and decisive.

  • That's precisely what I meant.

  • yeah, it has to be precise or else there would be confusion

  • AC167 ready for IFR to Toronto

Dep frq 345.67 cleared as filed

fly runway heading climb to FL200.

Your good to go takeoff 27L

  • It's not that this is so damn funny in itself, but the drum roll and the question mark kills me :P Cool!

  • roger, rodger.

    whats the vector, victor?

    we have clearence, clerence.

  • its true it does happen coming from a seasoned ATC

  • yeah i'm in training and I've told people cleared for take off whenever they are on final maybe twice...it's embarrassing but it happens.

  • The other day I was cleared to take off with a 757 on short final. When I asked tower about it they were confused about the runway assigned.

  • The video is not related to the audio.

  • Is this worth putting on youtube? Crap.

  • you obviously don't get it then...

  • Duh... I don't get the funny... Moron.

  • Position and hold, means "taxi out to the runway and wait for clearance to take off", which is rather hard to comply to, when you're already airborne trying to land. ;)

  • Misspeaks happen, it is a way of live, any controller that has made it through training that claims they have never misspoke is a liar. Same can be said about pilots, misspeaks happen, corrected and move on. Which is what the controller did, I bet they laughed a couple times about that.

  • "Roger tower, going into hover mode".....

maaaybe someday in the distant future

  • maggus999 u wanna mouth atc u cant even type let alone talk to planes haha

  • I like that one!! :)

    My response would be:

"Unable, not on the ground yet."

  • ROLF ROLF ROLFLOLOL LMAOOOO

  • dave0mary: how do you like cmi?

i normally fly from bmi, but cmi isn't too bad!!

  • I was at Champaign ILL airport cleared for takeoff. If I would have followed inst. I would have hit a King Air taking off on an intersecting. So I asked the tower for a camera on my clearance. "What/Why?" I told him I wanted to get a picture of the crash. He just laughed and thanked me for holding. Sometimes we can all just cool our jets (pun intended) and laugh at life.

  • ROFL though understandble to make 1 mistake

  • Big deal

  • Okay, drama queen. How would an airborne aircraft go into position and hold? A minor slip of the tongue and everyone on the frequency probably knew what he meant. But feel free to sensationalize.

  • Haha, you should get yourself a radio scanner, you wouldn't believe how much bad communications there are

  • how many* bad communications there are.

or how much bad communication* there is*.

  • Exactly :P

  • Sorry, its a habit, didn't mean to be an asshole.

    :]

  • Understandable, I have the same (bad?) habit ;]

  • loooool very funny :D

  • LOL

  • lmao @ pos & hold an aircraft on final...

  • Wat was the disagrment

  • No disagreement, though it was funny. He asked this thing on final to position and hold. :))

  • 1030 at 20??? lol........

  • Doh

  • at 0:19 there is lightening or a ghost!!!!!!!!!!

  • OR THE REFLECTION OF A LIGHT!!!!

  • yes but if u were with the gov and hiding aliens, you would have said the exact same thing!!!!

    u look so guilty now

  • I can understand the need to talk fast when it is busy but I think that for the most part, ATC can afford to slow down...it's not as if civilian aviation is on a bombing run.

  • Nope. You are wrong.

Also, they only sound fast if you don't know what to listen for. 90% of transmissions have the same information in the same order. If you know what to listen for, it all makes sense.

  • I'm wrong? Is there some set standard that is written somewhere about how fast or slow they must talk? The answer is NO so you are incorrect.

I'm speaking from the experience I have and the experience imparted onto me by the many instructors I fly with. Like I said before and I'll say it again, its better to take another second to ensure you are about to do the right thing than it is to be speaking at the speed of light.

  • When you have an arrival and a departure every minute on multiple intersecting or parallel runways, fast is good. I agree with IADaveMark that it isn't fast if you know what to listen for.

  • If you read what I originally posted, you would realize that I stated, it can be necessary to speak fast in a busy environment.

  • I agree with parubhi. Approach/departure ATC at heathrow (the busiest international airport in the world) is handeled very calmy. Very rarely do they speak fast. It just has to flow. And also there is a recommened words per minuite as stated in ICAO document (???) can't remember i know there is because i had to learn it for my ATPLs. I think its about 200wpm. Would need to check though

  • They talk too fast

  • they have to. theres 15 odd other planes on the same frequency behind em...

  • LMAO thats soo funny

  • uh... tower 090 request inst on how to do that....

  • "uh tower i dont think our flaps provide enough lift to go THAT slow" XD

  • hahahahaha :P

  • the snare drum the whistle and the clown horn get me every time lol

  • hahahhahaha

  • gankala8 continued:

    ahahahahahhahahahahha

  • hahahhaa... iam still laughing....

  • Like pilots never mispeak.... the difference is the controller is responsible for when the pilot mispeaks.

  • postition on hold, right, were in the air, umm, tower how exactly is that possible

  • The controller wants him to land, turn around and go back to the start of the runway and wait for further instruction.

  • hahahaha

A/C: Kennedy Tower, 090 unable to comply, fixed wing a/c.

  • position and hold on final. fun!

damn that gravity though, spoils all the good times.

maybe if we have time, we could go around on the ramp?

  • I almost refuse to believe that this is what I'll be walking into in the future. (I'm looking to become an ATC myself)

  • lol

  • hehehe .. hold your position :)

  • lol i got it the second time i saw the video.. im not a pilot but i like it very much im 13 and i like to go to the airport with my dad who is a retired pilot to just see the planes =D

  • LOL

  • "Unable, we are not a helicopter."

  • What airline is that? The foreign one at the beginning?

  • Malev Hungarian Airlines

  • thanks

  • I get this stuff alot. Tower tells me left on golf hold short 30L on this same freq. And i tell him sir im on downwind.

  • lol. i just started training in the tower, hope I never do that

  • Dont worry, we all love you guys...

  • hahahahah

  • It was better" ahh, ok we hold here" To see his face... hehehe

  • He told the plane on short final to position and hold. Later he corrected it they are cleared to land.

  • i don't get it =?

  • he told them to stay where they were

  • no he told them to hold short of the runway (holding right outside of the runway on the taxiway) even though they were on final in the air..

  • i simplified it for him

  • maybe..

  • He explained they were in the air though
