Some people are so freaking dramatic! This guy certainly doesn't know what he's talking about, but you CAN run a pump dry for a few seconds without damage (Don't do it on purpose). I accidently ran mine for about a minute with my inlet ball valve closed and never had any damage to my pump. Still using the same washer everyday and its been a year since I did it. Crazy Huh!

yea so put your hand on the plastic air box so you break it. Also no engine smokes on a cold start (it should not smoke at all) unless this guy put the engine on its side. DO NOT RUN any power washer dry like that even for a little while you will ruin the pump. I would like to know how many people have ruined there power washers because of this guy.

@Mentorcase Oh shit, i just got a honda generator for free and i started it up with no water or anything attached to it. Does that mean its broken now?!!? I dindt have it on for very long. I'm worried now.

@VTwanderer If I were you I would just connect the water turn on the tap and press the trigger on the gun without starting the motor and wait till all the air bleeds out through the gun nozzle. Then try starting it and see if it works with water running through. I hope you got lucky, If not maybe you can get away with replacing the seals and didnt toast inside the pump.

you have to purge the pump of air by running water through it. then you can start the engine. you ruining your pump.

your suppose to start it with the water so it doesnt burn out the water pump
