That cross between a meow and a purr is a unique sound that cats developed when they began interacting with humans. The purr is a soothing sound, but it's mixed with a demanding meow that humans can't resist.
Basically, this sound both sucks up to humans and demands food from them.

I have one same type of cat. Female. Few months ago her older brother ran off and died. Those can get really fluffy!
