@arosta1 - SGW is effectively in limbo and will stay there for the forseeable future.

The main jist is its down to funds, there was alot stolen by some, filtered through other companies etc, mass spending on things they didn't need right away etc (no priorities on such things) We are now left with Stargate Resistance, which is a shooter game with assets from SGW.

To get the game finished now would require a substantial investment from a huge company or multiple smaller investors.

The best for mmo to keep up their succes is pay once for the game i will go up to 60 bucks.

and let them have ingame advertising and by that i mean a billboard next the stargate of coca cola or if you going trough it you can see it :) and by making account you need to enter your age so young people get young things to see and older old stuf to see that interest or something damm i need to go and work with them :).

Also, without beta testing and hearing peoples opinions it's hard to sculpt a successful game or software.

it also lowers piracy making things free, and free means wider distribution and availability and success often leads to high profitability eventually.

Myspace, Youtube, and Yahoo Mail is good example of that.

Nexon's game company would be another great example of a solid business framework.

SUbscription based is bad because, not everyone can afford to keep paying forever

Without beta testing it's hard to make a high quality product that works well on most machines, without testers it's hard to find bugs or problems since most computers people has is different configuration.

And open public testing builds userbase which also means more business potential for generating revenue.

To put it simple, if it doesn't have much public awareness then not many know about it and it's hard to make profit if you can't get the product out not many will be able to buy it.

Crysis was free, all games I can think of to date have been originally free durign development.

Pretty much every game out there is pretty much free to play if you sign up for betas directly with the companies that develop them and actually play them before they come out and then most often you'd get full version when it does come out so tell me how free to play sucks?

In that category you mentioned games like Dungeons and Dragons Online and Lord of the Rings Online is good.

World of Warcraft is also good and Eve but they aren't free anymore for most andyou have to pay for subscription for those 2.

All games I can think of have been free to play at some point during development and after as well.

I play games doing beta testing and alot of the time once it's released to public I get a fully retail license with it so I can play the full released game.

I can't really mention some of the newer titles and specific companies for legal reasons on how to signup, but trust me you can play retail games and beta's free if you find where and how to signup and are involved in the test process providing feedback for the game you want to test and play you have to be involved.

This is true for 90% of software online too.

And from a design perspective any game can be made free to play at a later date and be profitable if they have the right business framework, where you allow players to play game then charge for extra features, functionality, content, and upgrades, that model is very successful and i think most all games online should have focused on that business model before and there would've been alot less great games go down hill and gaming companies.

Just think if Terminator game or TV show games use it.

Dark Orbit is good.

Combat Arms is good, America's Army is improved graphically, just need much more content and customizability and weapons and maps and it's be perfect.

Operation 7.

Stargate Worlds looks good.

Star Trek Online looks ok.

Dungeons and Dragons Online is like old style RPG.

Some run on lower graphics hardware like laptops.

Well, third person shooter then. FPS Style means there's no auto aim and it's with guns and you need to aim your gun and stuff.

you may or may not get it. they announced the number of keys they released. cant remember how many but they said that something like 150,000 people signed up and definetally not all will be accepted. :(
