December 18, 1983...I just realized that I was at that concert. As I remember, his band and equipment got caught in a blizzard, and he alone, with a couple of guitars and a piano was brilliant without any help from anyone but the crowd. Posthumously he is STILL brilliant!
Well done on this. An excellent blending of two classics. No matter how many times it is done, Romeo and Juliet remains timeless, and never fails to bring a tear if properly performed. Fogelberg's music to this was a perfect match.
this was such a beauiful movie....not to mention this song =) it actualy sounds better live,i think. not something that happens much with music anymore,unfortunatly...Dan Fogelberg was just amazing...I miss him :(
I fell thunderstruck in love in 1982...very similar to the scene played out from the zefferalli film above...i listened to this song 20 x that night on the way home..ive never been the same...thanks dan!
I should add that Paris Nocturne is firmly in my memory. As a child, dad would play his casette tape in the car, and for years, I couldn't remember this song. I remembered the first five notes or so, but couldn't remember further until a couple years ago.. ^^; Anyway, Dan Fogelburg was an amazing musician, too bad he's not with us anymore.
I fell in love with "Beggar's Game" when I first listened to the LP, which I found in a second hand store. I was like, Dammit, I wish I could find this on the web, and now I have. :D
Does anyone find that it is still hard to grasp that Dan is gone? Does God take his angels at times very early? How could Dan not be an angel. Has anyone seen or have Dan's published book of his travels called Photographs? How nice it is?
wow....................not only a beautiful, live version of one of his greatest songs, but, a wonderful trip back in time....was 13 when I saw this heart gripping movie....thanks for the memories....
Great Recording! Dan's voice is strong, solid and of course awesome. Beautiful song to go with Romeo and Juliet. Olivia Hussey is so beautiful and Leonard Whiting is so handsome. Great pairing for the movie. Dan would had given you thumbs up for this! Thank you Margaret(Dan's mom) for making Dan take piano lessons.
All I can add is AWESOME!! I have so many memories of this movie, and of course it's the perfect songs to accompany it. You really outdid yourself Donna. And Dan playing Paris Nocturne really knocks me out. His gifts will never ever cease to amaze and astound me. Hugs to all out there. BB in FL.
Another Gem, Donna. "Love, Beauty, Romance: these are the things stay alive for..." So many DF songs about the frequent tragedy of love, and this the grandest of all.
You and Greg are such "Hopeless Romantics" I KNEW IT :) Of course, all of us DanFans are whether we want to admit it or not. The Phoenix will rise to the vibrations of the many. DanFans are the GREATEST!
