Sepultura before Roots had it's own unique sound, thrash to the core. Derrick Green has a great voice, but this music is too common, the riffs too generic, the singing too nu metal/emocore, the solos non-existent.

The main problem Sepultura fans have with this is that it isn't thrash sepultura, it is nu metal sepultura, it should have a different name so Sepultura fans don't have to say they love "early sepultura".

Isn't it a bit unfair at this point to keep referring to Sepultura as Max's band and comparing the two? I mean, it's been over a decade now, the band has changed and the music has evolved. Max was a great writer, but that's what he was. A vocalist, writer, and guitarist. I actually like this better than old Sepultura stuff, but I don't just attribute it to Green, either.

Point being, I think it's been long enough to at least think of it as Derrick's band.

After bothering to listen to some Derrick Sepultura today I am more willing to agree with that view, but they still aren't the same without Max, and after against they just haven't been sepultura. Certainly not on this or nation - they were more groove metal/ hardcore albums, but Dante and Alex seem more interesting and unusual, though I have not heard much of them.
