this dog was trained to do this rather than simply jumping in after the ball. It's not problem solving you're seeing, because dogs don't reason A leads to B and B leads to C, so therefore A leads to C. Instead, you're seeing a well trained dog that was TAUGHT to do the trained paddling behavior.
