  • 4:12 um peter, I think you lost the kids.

  • Why is Peter always played by a woman, not a talented boy dancer/singer? I watched this as a kid and always thought Peter Pan was a woman.

  • 2:51 Wasn't that on America's Stupidest Home Videos?

2:55 "Don't look up my nightgown!"

3:04 "Yay, I've always wanted to meet Siddhartha!"

3:27 Watch out for the screen!

3:44 The maid's been in the cooking sherry again.

4:01 "I'm getting motion sickness!" "Try to puke in the Thames! Or at least on Gordon Ramsay!"

4:21 You're not going to get anywhere flying back and forth all night.

    4:27 Spider-man, Spider-man.

4:38 Oh, it's over. That was short.

  • 0:03 "All you do is jump at the ground and miss!" 0:16 "Of course, the stars never get your jokes." 0:26 This is the part in Hitchhiker's Guide where I stopped reading. 0:47 But can you bleed? 1:04 Mary Martin, Mary Martin. 1:13 They have very high ceilings. 1:31 That was a dick move, Pete. 1:44 This music makes me want to buy phones. 1:59 "All you have to do is attach strings to your costume!" 2:07 Shouldn't that turn them into bug-eyed cucumbers? 2:25 "Socialism!" 2:28 "Porn!"
  • You can definitely see the wire @ 2:34.

  • That's a girl a, weird!

  • This scene of the flying was in the movie Look Who's Talking Now

  • wouldn't it be amazing if people could really fly!!!! :) how wonderful that would be

  • Mary Martin would've been a better Peter Pan if she had gymnastic skills.

  • 2:43 That kid is so fucking cute.

  • its sad cuz it doesnt matter how many wonderful thoughts you think, you still vant fly ='(

  • Candy!

  • I remember seeing this Peter Pan play when I was in 1st grade, and all my classmates including me were laughing from 2:43-2:51 seeing Michael running in the air.

  • Of all the Hooks This was the best over the top Hook

  • They are doing more swinging then flying if you as me.

  • @DevlinNYC. I would do the same if I was flying for the first time!

  • @DevlinNYC true, but to an eight year old kid that's as good as anything

  • thanks sooo much for posting this. i remember watching this when i was really little

  • You can so tell peter is useing strings

    thumbs up if you agree

  • @vampire54927 um obviously he wouldnt really be flying. this is the 60s.

  • also i mean they are not ready to go they need decent clothes for they trip to neverland and not there nightgowns just joking thank for uploading it it is very lovley to see that version

  • Classic and nostalgic show that was part of our childhood. Memorable and enjoyable. All kids should see this version. Thanks for posting.

  • i love this song!

  • Amazing.. back in 1960 4 people flew onstage with no problem but in 2011 those morons putting Spider man on Broadway almost killed 3 people.

  • "where are you going?!" the ground would be my best guess.

  • I like the Hook in this movie but the Hook in the Cathy Rigby movie is much better

  • When I hear them saying "Neverland", I think of how sweet MJ is with building up Neverland for all the children :)!

  • i love this. watched it all the time when i was little. makes me smile. :)

  • is peter a girl? haha

  • @lianavocado It's an old theater tradition. Girls looked younger and were easier to lift with the rope.

  • @PyroGothNerd Plus if the show was a hit and lasted a while, the producers didn't need to worry about Peter Pan growing a beard and hitting 190 cm! And seasoned, talented actresses could bring a kind of magic to the role that a young boy never could on stage.

  • CANDY!!!!!!!

  • Haven't seen this in years. Thank you for posting it

  • Not only is the Peter Pan in this played by a woman, she's American too! Ridiculous! Why do Americans always have to fuck up good British movies/cartoons?

  • @WiccanHighPriest0 It's tradition for Peter to be played by a woman in a lot of stage productions.

  • @TehGiggleMonster ah with stage productions, you are right. My bad.

  • @WiccanHighPriest0 Also, Mary Martin played Peter in the original cast for the Broadway musical so it's only fitting that she also played the part when they restaged it for TV a few years later. Personally, I think she does a wonderful job and this is hands down my favorite Peter Pan movie.

  • Peter Pan in this is blatantly obviously played by a woman. How silly.

  • The exact same thing can happen if you take candy from a stranger.

  • I always wanted to fly away with peter and tink=)

  • I haven't seen this in years! My favorite was always Tiger Lily :D

  • I'd love to be Tinkerbell, just hanging out with Peter all the time would be so much fun!

  • at 2:34 you can see the string behind Michael's head! :)

  • I was so crazy about this scene when I was a kid. It still has it's magical charm and I'm sure I'll watch it and daydream when I'm an old woman.

  • wow...the flying seemed MUCH more realistic when I was a kid...

I guess I grew up faster then I thought. haha XD

Wait....why am I laughing...thats not funny at all!

Wah! I wanna be a kid again! >_<

  • My eyes! They burn! Curse your fairy dust!!!

  • worst nanny never.

  • WHY IS PETER PAN A GIRL!?

  • @rach0babe Peter Pan usually is played by a girl.

  • @rach0babe I know, that used to mess with my head when I was little.

  • This here is my best/favorite childhood memory. Whoever posted this has done us a damn good favor. Thank youu!

  • did no one noticed that Peter is a Girl????? he has no bulg. lol

  • CANDY!!! XD

  • childhood memories like shit lol

  • Candyyy!!

  • 3:36= "Where are you going?" Im going to Neverlaaand!" LOL The Maid doesnt care that they just flew out the window in the middle of the night! LMAO

  • @ConcreteSurfer420 It's partly because Michael threw fairy dust on her and she was begin to learn how to fly.

  • I grew up with this versoin! I'm soooooo happy i found it!

  • Mary was said to be a Lesbyterian.

    Discuss.

  • @mrspatrickcampbell She does go on about fairies.

  • The girl playing Wendy was a replacment for Lauri Peters (Liesl) in THE SOUND OF MUSIC. That's the main reason Martin wanted her for the production. Bill Snowden who played Frederick in the original cast of MUSIC is in this playing one of the lost boys. I agree, Wendy is terrible.

  • I'm SOOOOO glad you posted this whole movie. I LOVED it as a child and shared it with my kids via your post. THANKS! Its near imposable to find this any more.

  • This must be a very dangerous scene to perform live.

  • @barkingtree88 right, if those cables snapped or one of them *flew* into something, ouch

  • im FLYING!!!

  • It's not good that's not children who play : (

  • The background was nicely done for this! :D

  • mary = peter pan <3. there is no other!

  • Crazy Servant girl. "Okay kids fly out the window. By By. Have a good trip. Whoo I'm twirling." She is so fired.

  • it's so embarrassing in the the 60's how badly special effects are. you can see the wires :P

  • I have the vhs somewhere but dont have a vhs player anymore. I miss this version!

  • @MrsEdwardCullen112 same here. Other than the Disney version and Hook, this is my favorite version. NOBODY beats Mary Martin!

  • @ScorpioDreamer1984 Hook was a good movie, but my order is Disney, Mary Martin, then Hook xD

  • @Inuyasha7543341 I prefer the stage version (especially Cathy Rigby, though Mary MArtin is ok too) to Disney, but I LOVE Hook, so i put that on the same level as disney.

  • I love how Mary makes it look so real and natural.

  • this sucks compared to the cathy rigby omg

  • @actordude9393 Cathy rigby looks more boyish and the choreography is way better in her version, but in my opinion Mary capture's peter's spirit even better.

  • wow!!!!!

im 17 and remember watching this!!!!

    i want it on dvd..:/

  • I have been looking for this movie for the past ten year and I can't find it anywhere I owned it as a kid but I watch it so many time I burnt thew 2 vhs tape of it. If anybody knows where I can find it or if someone owns the full version of it I would gladly pay a lot of money for it. Please I will give you whatever you!!!!

  • CANDY!!

  • Candy!!

  • my most favorte ever!! Im so glad you had this posted..i woke up this morning and it was stuck in my head and couldnt find it anywher!

  • *Sigh* This song was always in my head whenever I went swimming.

  • shes a freakin' great actress!

  • WOW I used to LOVE this movie! I had it taped a long time ago but since then the video is ruined because I watched it so much! I'm glad I found it!

  • o my gosh i just LOVE Michael! "CANDY!"

  • even in this older version, when they fly, its SOOOO magical!

  • Maid: Where are you going!?

    Micheal: I'm going to Neverland!

Maid: *randomly spins around in circles*

I mean, what else are you gonna do when you find out the kids you're supposed to be taking care of are flying out the window to some far off place? I know I'd start spinning around too! XD

  • @LacyLuvsGodiva LMAO

  • @LacyLuvsGodiva That's because Michael sprinkled some fairy dust on her. The dust just feels so magical.

  • I want the DVD, but its $150.00. That's expensive. I wish I had a VCR, I would buy the VHS.

  • lol when i was little this used to make me jump off of furniture trying to fly too

  • theatre royal-brighton whatever you do avoid peter pan there..unfunny and old script unedited for modern times and kids, hence flat and unfunny. plus they have the cheek to appeal for donations at the end, when funds already have to go to st olmonds street hospital.

  • One of my favorite versions of Peter Pan. Along with the silent version and Disney version. I also love Hook.

  • i like disneys better. peter is actually a boy

  • lol

  • ikr!

  • I grew up with Mary Martin and Cyril Ritchard. I like Mary Martin better than Cathy Rigby. Cyril Ritchard will always be my favorite Captain Hook.

  • The little boy cant jump for the love of fuck xD

  • i remember this when i was a little kid. sure miss those care free days.

  • When I was a child in the fifties, and this came on for the first time my parents said I was in a trance. Mary Martin was my idol as a kid and I have loved Broadway and musical theater ever since.

  • Mary Martin happens to be one of the most talented and respected performers of her time.

However, I know the over dramatization of the characters is annoying - but it's done because this is meant for children - who happen to love it.

  • All Michael can think to say is Candy! This is so charming and a fun fantasy.

  • i think that the version with Cathy Rigby's version is better

  • I dont understand why people think this version is better than Cathy Rigby's version. Can you guys please enlighten me? And plz dont be mean. Im just curious. ;)

  • Very nice. Ecxellent Mary Martin...Congratulation for posted this great vid.

  • i think they should find a boy to play Peter, about 13~14 years old that his voice isn't low

  • It has been a tradition in the theater for Peter Pan to be played by a woman since it was first staged in the early 20th century. That's why a woman usually plays the role.

  • she made a great Peter too, sorry for my previous comment, in fact i didn't mean to be rude. I think it was a very nice show :) thankyou for ur answer

  • Don't be sorry. I was just explaining why Peter Pan is usually played by a woman. i didn't take your comment as rudeness at all.

  • wtf

  • First, I must throw this fairy dust on you.

  • I always wanted to fly, but now that I think of it, if you were flying around in the sky you'd probably be shot down by some crazies.

  • hahaha or crash into a plane, Savant3141592.

  • @Savant3141592 is Mary Martin a.....girl?

  • Man, I wish I could be Peter Pan... lol. I used to watch this movie all the time. And as to Wendy's acting, she's just like that, the character I mean. She's supposed to be fairly dramatic I think. But I missed this movie so much. Brings back memories :)

  • yea it lets you know how old we are this version came out before i was even around when i was a kid i loved this movie i have been trying to find it for 8 years were can i find it lol

  • i love it when the little kid first learns to fly and hes spazing in the air.

  • OMG I've been looking for this movie everywhere!! I used to love this when I was a kid,I like a lot of ppl here had it in VHS jeje. The only thing I STILL don't like that I didn't like then... WENDY'S ACTING!!! My LORD couldn't they put someone else!! that is what I call OVER ACTING jeje

  • @SVgirl09 now that im older i see how bad her acting is.

  • I watched this movie at least once everyday when I was little :)

  • This movie is expensive? I have it on VHS! Cool!

  • Peter Pan is a girl.

  • take me to your dealer?

    innocensce lost

  • fantastic

  • i have this on video

  • THE BEST!!

  • The acting is so bad in this play......... that it's good!!!

  • OMG! The Cathy Rigby is much better she REALLY goes high!! And they have "Fairy dust" is 100000000000000 times better!! + is the Cathy Ridgy they talk with emotion (happy, sad, crying, & etc...) and they chang the set SOOO fast!! = Mary Martin doesn't have accent!! And she talks like a girl!! BUT SHE IS DOING PETER PAN (A BOY)

  • Um...

    How stupid are you?

No, really, how stupid? Very? Extremely? Off the charts?

    Or was this a joke?

  • if u think its so much better then y r u on part 4 of this? also this was earlier and i love this version! and if cathy rigby goes so high how can she act a boy? usually boys at the age peter is supposed to be have lower voices and also the person who wrote the music meant it to be for MARY MARTIN not cathy rigby.

  • you don't know what you're talking about

  • COOL PETER PAN IS A GIRL

  • Sublime stuff.

  • Comment removed

  • I know when I fly it's a lot smoother than that. This could just be a personal thing though

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • i haven't seen this in years!

since I was 4-6 yrs old this is the one I know best

    Tiger lily is awsome!

  • CANDY!

  • This is glorious!

  • I found out recently that my kids when they were litle would put this tape on when my father in law would baby sit knowing he would fall asleep and sneak out and be back before my wifeand i got back.....

  • Why a Girl play a Boy? Peter Pan is a Boy.

Whats is the Problem to find Men Actor,

    to play Peter Pan?

  • well, Peter Pan needed a wide range to sing all the parts, so they got a girl to play him.

  • Yes thats i am wrote, and why is thats with Girl

and not a Boy Actor? Thats is in my Eys not good.

Ever when Boy play Peter Pan we in the Actually New Movie. There play a Boy the Peter Pan.

I can not understand, why these role play a girl

    and not a Boy?

  • you Are veri confuzing me

i do nt get what yor sayin

wow boys cant get notes up that high thats why

  • It's more about the voice. This was suppose to be a boy who never had his voice change, and if this was preformed a long period time then the boy would grow up, and his voice would change. Having a girl play the role would take out having to train a new Peter Pan ever few months

  • There has been a tradition of women playing Peter since the first production in London in 1904. One of the most successful was with Eva Le Gallienne -who also goes down in history in the "you can't make this up" column as a famous lesbian actress. Perhaps it is because a man couldn't convincingly play a boy. Perhaps that women were more graceful in the flying by Foy. In musical versions, I daresay a male voice would have been jarring as a "boy who never grew up". Except Michael Jackson!

  • michael is too cute!!!

  • I DO BELIEVE IN FAIRIES I DO!

  • I love this version of the play. Mary Martin is amazing. If I only had pixie dust, I'd be able to fly...

  • I love this version of Peter Pan!!!!! :-D This is what I grew up on...not the Disney version...although I like that one too....My parents recorded it....

  • I grew up on both.

  • "FL-OW-ERS!!" LMAO,Wendy is funny!!

  • i havent seen this in probably 14 years or so....this is great. I am so releaved to know the huge dog i remembered isnt real...hahaha.

  • i love fairy tale theater.

  • You see people, on stage, it has always been tradition that the role of peter pan be played by a female......yeah. I guess you kind of noticed. The tradition was broken in the 2003 adaptation of the story.

  • Thanks for posting. I love this song and I sing it often but to listen to it when I want, I used to have to fastforward the VHS. YouTube is a miracle.

  • Ok watching this, you just can't help but sport a big, dopey ear-to-ear grin...

  • hahaha i'm pretty sure anyone who watched this movie tried to fly after.. i definitely jumped off the couch and my bunkbed countless times thinking happy thoughts hoping i would fly!

  • without any pixie dust? youre insane!

  • hahaha i didn't think about that part, jeez i was young okay
