THnx JAt for the reply well appreciated. This tutorital convinced me on getting the tascam its being shipped as we speak and i have the same setup like u have pretty much.. Im going your route plugging it in str8 into my mac quad via the firewire and recording threw logic 7.
Plllleeeeease give a tutorial on the DM-4800. I have one (in the box) and I'm scared!!!!! I have Protools HD and up until now I just used two channels on an analog mixer to do everything!! I have subscribed in faith!! :)
There is a card that has to be installed in the mixer called the - IF-FW/DM mkII. It will allow you to have 32 channels, essentially the mixer becomes the audio interface.
This is a big leap from analog, believe me I know. It took us 2 hours to get any sound out of the board. The fault was acting like the Dm-4800 is an analog mixer. It is not.
Additionally the DM-4800 can be used to do thinigs that can also be done in the DAW like automation and effects. I dont use them because I use the ones in my software. However, I do use the compression when I record, and I would use the effects if I ever ran into ran in to a resource issue on my MAC. I would approach automating a mix the same way.
i have the motu 828 as a sound card and having some "isssues using it" with my mac quad pro. and im looking into the tascam as my mixing board with my logic 7.
You said it has a built in sound card ??? just plugged into your mac . THATs what exactly wht i need.
enough said about that.
so i can get rid of my mutu 828mk3. and just buy a the Tascam and hook it up to my mac and im ready to go ?? if you could just confirm this my motu will be up for auction.
more on the tascam 4800 please
