This is her past, her old school where she got evicted for murdering a load of students and a teacher.

@Bradz289 Is that how the movie portrayed it? The game was never clear on the truth behind Rena's assault. All you are clearly told is that Rena snapped, assaulted 3 friends with a bat and then destroyed all the windows. Everything else is basically Ooishi's assumptions and Keiichi's paranoical mind. The whole incident was kept secret because the kids feared her and because she was sent to psychiatric rehabilitation. The Psychiatrist was the one that suggested to return to Hinamizawa in the end.

@Bradz289 The anime more or less followed the game's viewpoint, aside from the images shown which are just, again, Maebara Keiichi's paranoid imagination. The anime only cut out the contents of the psychiatric rehabilitation only showing the parts where she cuts herself and when Hanyuu tells her she needs to return to Hinamizawa. the anime's Tsumihoroboshi-hen is pretty specific about Rena and the only things the anime differs is omitting details.

@TimTheScarecrow More like it was originally a "game". But it's really a Visual Novel, not a traditional game per-se. Anyway, the only English version that I know of can only be bought oline through the Manga Gamer website and it's for PC. The PC version is also available for PS2 in Japan and there's similar versions available in DS (but not the same story, just similar) but again, just in Japan.

I can't tell which character is supposed to be which since they all have the same funny looking eyes and hair color. It would have helped me more if they died the ladies hair orange since Rena Ryuuguu's hair is orange. I only know which one's Keiichi because he's the only boy with brown hair in the group and Satoshi is gone most of the series, being that he had a mental breakdown...
