  • this was one of the first vids I watched over 3 years ago and then went out and bought a faded lol

  • I tried the SG Faded worn brown and it sounded awesome to me through a Laney GH100L Half stack, I really liked the bite the pickups have and I am really considering getting one, I would like to get your opinion on this please?

  • @aryasridhar007

My opinion ?I don't think what I or what amyone else thinks should bear any influence on what guitar YOU like or want to own.If you like it ,thats the important thing and what really matters. You are the one paying for it and using it.What you like is what you should get.

  • thanks for the vid. it really helped me decide :)

  • Great vid. The guitar stock is great, but I installed a Gibson '57 Classic in the neck, and an SD '59 in the bridge position. Guitar got a much more full sound immediately with the swap. The stock neck pickup sounds good, but the bridge position definitely needs more balls then the stocker provides. To me just far too trebly. Especially on a vintage Marshall like my 73.

  • I actually really liked the faded Something about it (Its price maybe) really sets it off for me.

  • @TheJH2010 Yep,the price I am sure is reason why people gravitate to buy it

  • @rlta04 I bought a faded SG two weeks ago. I loved it at first. It's nice and cheap, looks great, sounds great. But the finish is absolutely unforgiving. I could dent it with my finger nails. Just be studs on my jean pocks, through my shirt, was enough to dent the FUCK out of the back of it. My 8 year old Les Paul has less dents now. So I took it to a guy here in my town to get it clear-coated in nitrocellulose. I wish I'd just spent the extra few hundred for the regular special.

  • @TheJH2010 Our usernames are so similar.

  • he actually only has two kamakarzii and they're different models thats the fuck why different guitars different parts different sounds

  • Nice demo of the two guitars. I always wondered what differences you'd hear between them. Good playing too. Keep it up.

  • better faded- too much middle in the standard. Faded has a more original acid sound. The standard is only louder . I said,

  • Hi nice vid. Could you please tell me how the gibson sg special faded comes set up out of the box? Thanks

  • @ady0211

Mine came off display from my music store ,but seemed ok to me.Everyone likes things their own way so couldn't really say. Most times when I get a guitar it always needs some tweaking to get it where I want it but I learned to do that myself. Its not all that difficult

  • they both sound great!

the standard sounded a little bit bigger , deeper, ballsier

  • The faded sounds better by a mile i think

  • i Got one of those usen for 179 New Zealand Dollars :3

  • what id like to know is why does this cunt has 20 different sgs

  • @kamakarzii

wow, little jealous or something kid? 20? Try 2 sg's. Name calling and jealousy? If I did have 20 sg's ,your permission would not be required nor would an explanation why be required for you.WHy not turn the computer off and go ask mommy for a hug?

  • @kamakarzii Why would you use to such profanity to try and get your point across. Obviously language of a low life!

  • @kamakarzii maybe because slash jimmy page and ANGUS FUCKING young all played it... soo how about u fuck off

  • @rhinohockenberry Hendrix also played an SG sometimes

  • special all the way! :)

  • HMMMMMMMMM, since the neck is the same as the Standard (I assume 490R, yes??) So! I might just buy a 498T and a spare cover. Hahaha. Or just covers for teh special.

  • @XiaNingTian

I'm turning Japanese,I think I'm turning japanese I really think so

  • @rlta04 Cool story bro.

  • nice guitars

  • @scaredypicker thanks

  • Here's a test to tell whether the covers alter the tone of the pickup or not: have someone play the guitar while you place a metal ruler between the strings and the pickup poles.

Nice gear BTW. I like the crispness of the Special. I wonder if its neck joint is stronger than the standard, which is famed for being relatively easy to break, in exchange for the dream-like upper frets access.

  • @gullywoots

the faded and the standard both have the same neck joint

  • Please dont directly pull the cable from the jack, it might damage your guitars wirings and electronics!!!!!

  • @haroldlihk

    huh?

Please don't tell me what to do with my stuff

  • @rlta04 dude that is a hilarious response. ROCK ON also on the serious topic of guitar gear.. absolutely no sound difference. the real difference is in the finishes. For me, i want a guitar that i can beat around, rock my dick off on, and not worry about "flawing" the "precious finish." maybe its cuz im a punk.. but all i gotta say is i got my special(mahogany finish) for 480 and threw a jb in the bridge, gig on it frequently, and she plays and sounds like a dream. couldnt be more pleased

  • @haroldlihk

I dont get what you mean by that. what else am i supposed to do except pull the cable out?

and is it better to unplug the amp from the wall and the cord and unplug the cord from the guitar or just leave everything plugged in and off.

  • rock n roll ain't noise pollution! i think i am partial to the standard although i mean, its a freakin' Gibson SG, how could you go wrongggggg!!!!! hahaha! thanks for posting!

  • I bet that if you take off (or put on) pickup covers they bout would sound exactly the same

  • @bluecrow00 No,I don't know why some people seem to think the pickup covers make much if any difference in the tone. They really do not

  • @rlta04 Eric Clapton said he got better high freq. response with the covers removed. I trust he knows what he's talking about.

By the way, I vote for the special.

  • @SuperMrBrighteyes

And your a 97 year old with no uploads,I trust you know what your talkin bout

  • The faded SG seemed to have more of a mellow or warmer tone to it, while the Standard seemed to have more of a cutting bright sound to it. I have two Gibson Flying V's, a Faded and a late 90's Gothic V. The Gothic is a punchier sounding guitar while the Faded V is a brighter sound. Amazing to me the difference in those two guitars..

As far as these SG's go, the Faded is worth the coin for sure. The last one I played was impressive.

  • Rock and Roll AINT NOISE POLLUTION! YEAH

  • Almost every SG test I've seen on YouTube seems to have at least one AC/DC riff.

  • This Fortress of Tears? :D

  • @chubz110

     Whats that mean?

  • @rlta04 Its a song by a band called HIM, it sounded like you were playin it

  • Standards are just better imo, not THAT much difference but if you can afford it go for it I say.

  • does the standard have a thinner neck?

  • The special sounds a bit brighter/clearer to me. Maybe it's the lack of covers on the pickups.

I'm considering an SG myself, but I have my eye on a white '61 reissue I've seen sold online, i feel like I should treat myself, after years iof buying/playing Epiphones etc (although my experiences of Epiphones tended to be pretty good) Might settle for an SG special if that falls through though.

  • AC/DC FOREVER

  • I like the standard a little more, nyt only because of the looks. I own the standard myself. They are both super awesome guitars, both beat les Paul in my opinion.

  • the standard has hotter pickups

  • i def like the looks of the standard better as far as sound its a toss up the standard almost sounded a bit muddier if you can believe it, more articulation in the special

but i like the feel & looks of the standard so i would take that and work w/ an eq or change the pups.

  • @MOSKII58 You're right, SG Standard does sound muddy, and with distortion this becomes even more present (low freqs seem to be horribly chaotic). The standard makes a good lead/soloist guitar, it totally sucks for riffs/rhytm. I sold it some time ago

  • an epipphone will never be as good as a genuine gibson

  • they're almost the same, the only difference is the standards and the specials finish and the standard is 400 bucks more, get the special faded (in my opinion)

  • @babeanddom There are a few more differences than just that. Get which one you like.I recommend going for the best one you can afford, whichever that may be.

  • Is that....Is that.... A Marshall Plexi?

  • @Mylastdawnofficial

    No,not a Plexi

  • Gibson not the epiphone very time.

  • i put a 2010 model Epiphone G-400 62 SG up against two

2009 Gibson Faded SG's and guess what folks the 2010 model

Epiphone G-400 62 SG SHIT ALL OVER BOTHE THE Gibson Faded SG models

i wasnt surprised at all considering what Gibson/Epiphone has done to the

Epiphone G-400 62 SG in 2010. they highended the shit out of it BUT! left it

with a budget price tag. that will all change in 2011.

  • @stratdem LOL

  • @stratdem I polished a turd all night long and it turned into a gold nugget

  • @stratdem epiphone sound cheap give me a Gibson every time.

  • Nice Amp. How much did it cost ya?

  • Standard is more expensive, I have the special

  • I prefere Standard, it's some tone diferente than special, and sounds better, i guess...

  • The comparison it really helped, thanks eh.

  • AC/DC... \m/

  • the faded looks like it has different pickups

  • @younggunna774

Pickups on the SG standard are 490R Neck, 498T Bridge they use Alnico II and V magnets, on the Special faded 490R neck and 490T bridge which are both Alnico II type magnets. The faded's pickup don't have covers on which also makes them look different. So the neck pickups are identical!

  • gibson sg special faded vs fender strat deluxe players ???

    PLEASEEE HELPP

which has more a richer tone... and what should i buy as a "definitive" guitar (my parents say its the last one in a long time haha)

  • @Greendaychile17 Don't take this the wrong way,but why ask strangers on the web what guitar is right for you?You should get one that you like the tone of as it will be you owning it and using it.

  • @rlta04 its cuz im kinda obliged to :s i live in SA where we dont have a variaty of guitars :S my parents are goin to USA and i wont go in YEARS no exageration and they offered me to buy it so can you please help me ? :)

and its all good no bad intentions taken

  • @rlta04 its cuz im kinda obliged to :s i live in SA where we dont have a variaty of guitars :S my parents are goin to USA and i wont go in YEARS no exageration and they offered me to buy it so can you please help me ? :)

and its all good no bad intentions taken

  • @Greendaychile17

I can only offer my opinion on what I like .if you would like what I like is totally unknown so it would not feel right to me or make sense. It all depends on what sound you want and what you plan on playing with it.What you like it to look like,.What you like the guitar neck to feel like.I can't say what you want in any of those things.

  • @rlta04 its cuz im kinda obliged to :s i live in SA where we dont have a variaty of guitars :S my parents are goin to USA and i wont go in YEARS no exageration and they offered me to buy it so can you please help me ? :)

  • @rlta04 because i dont live in the USA and where i live we dnt hav guitar variaty and my parents are going and im not and they wer guna buy me one or the other can u help plz :)

  • @rlta04 because wer i live we dnt hav guitar varaity so my parents goin to USA to buy one or the other and i dont have how to know wich is better and i dont have a chance to buy it in a looong time

  • @Greendaychile17 it depends on the tone you want and the feel you prefer for example i started with a thin guitar with a long neck so the sg is really good for me but if you started with a thick guitar such as a les paul i wouldnt recommend any of those 2

  • @Greendaychile17

Depends which players inspire you and what axes you have already and like the man says, why ask someone else?

Try them out at a Guitar store. If you have a strat already get an SG. If you have a strat already and want a different tone gmore cheaply get new pickups. Someone else cannot give you the answers they haven't got your ears or your wallet. Define richer tone.? Tone woods on strats are generally not mahogany, ash or alder usually, which gives different tone also.

  • @Greendaychile17 what sound do you like more? the fender sound of hendrix or the gibson sound of Angus Young? Think about the bands you like to listen to and find out what they play, that will help you but also as others mention you have to try the guitar and see wich ine feels better in your hands. Good luck!

  • is it worth upgrading from an epiphone g-400 to a gibson special?

  • @T1G3R576

    yes again

  • is it worth upgrading from an epiphone sg to a gibsin special?

  • @T1G3R576

    Yes

  • Things of taste... Someone likes standard, someone - faded...

  • Have any of you tried the sg out with the P-90 pickups? Difference between the two?

  • good job u help a lot

i have sg special wine red my self

btw on both guitar u have p 90 pickups?

  • @lironlww Good. thanks

The special faded has a 490r pickup in the neck and a 490t pickup in the bridge

The standard has a 490r pickup in the neck and a 498t pickup in the bridge

  • Is there a difference in the finish of the standard sg and special sg(not the faded one)?

  • @JohnnyLennony The nitro finish i believe would be the same if that is what you are asking

  • Is there a difference in the finish of the standard sg and special sg(not the faded one)?

  • thank you

your video and comment helped me to make a choose

  • which is heavier a les paul or an sg?

  • @Lettukeisari

    Lp is quite bit heavier

  • the standard sg's tone seems to cut through a little more but besides that i think the two tones are pretty close. you could save 500 bucks by getting a special faded instead and it would be just as good. at least i would be for me.

  • i like the special better, it just sounds grittier and its the one i own

  • the SG special faded almost sounds better for old AC/DC (bon scott era), if you were thinking of AC/DC

  • one of my sg's tuning pegs is broken and one know where i can get a replacement tuning peg

  • @guitarplayer10120 i had the same thing happen i had to go to guitar center and but a whole pack for 80 bucks i couldnt get just 1

  • It's not the same pickups.. Faded uses 490 pickups.. Standard uses 498's

The standard has nitrocellulose finish (four layers then polished) the faded uses a plastic finish.. nothing more The nitrolustre on standards generates better sustain.. The pieces of mahogny they choose is often harder pieces and therefore better for standard SG's.. and even better for the supreme models!

the quality controls is far more sophisticated on the standards..

  • @mrtwig80 standard-498t pickups faded 490t pickups

Unless Gibson changed something within the last couple years,The standard has 7-8 thin coats of nitro and the faded has 1-2 thin coats of the same nitro finish.the wood on the higher end (standard in this case).are chosen by the best in appearance and quality or wood. This iswhat I was told by Gibson directly couple years back.

  • @rlta04 your right. and if you want a special faded to sound like a standard on a budget, just get a 498-T bridge pickup. there only like 100 bucks more. you can get a guitar that sounds like a standard for 800 bucks (840 bucks if you get pickup covers)

  • @guitarkid222 Is this something you've done?Do you own both guitars you are describing or are you assuming this data?

  • @rlta04 just assuming

  • To me, the faded feels better ive played them at stores, but the standard sounds better. what you should do, if this is the case, replace the stock pickups for the standard ones, or do it with flying v pickups cause those are hot!!!!

  • @mynameischunky I can tell that the faded is not finished as well as the standard. The frets feel rough and sharp.they must not take as much time on them as they do with the higher end guitars when finishing them off.I can tell just by lookng at them that they are not given the same TLC and time as the more expensive stuff. The standard definatley feels better than the faded special

  • @mynameischunky the pickups on the standard are the same as the faded, the faded is stained not painted so the faded has more resonence to it, i just bought the faded so i learned every detail about it

  • @steffsweet45 Bridge pickup on standard is a 498t bridge pickup on faded is a 490t Both guitars are stained, not painted.

  • @steffsweet45 euhh.. say what?

It's not the same pickups..

  • @steffsweet45 If you learned every detail about it, then you didnt learn the right details.

Gibson SG Standard: 490R and 498T pickups.

Gibson SG Special: 490R and 490T pickups.

Gibson SG Special Faded: same as special.

  • standart is much better !! big diference, but faded is amazing too

  • SG or Duo Jet

  • The only problem I have with the faded is it's looks. I know, sound comes first, and then buget.... but if i at least put some pickup covers on a faded, it would look a little less.... cheap.

  • I'm looking to buy a Gibson SG -personally i like the look of the faded better but the standard is more praised which would you recommend?

  • @monsterenergy927 I would recommend you get what you like and not care what someone else would want.I prefer the standard over the 2.

  • Hows the tone?? Do u lyk it?

  • faded sounds better to me

  • The Standard sounds more fatter and more raw.

  • is that a marshall plexi? holy shit if it is!

  • I think the faded looks better. I love the worn look.

  • I want to buy a Gibson SG Special. Is £460 a good price for one? And is it worth it?

  • I want to buy a Gibson Special. Is £460 a good price for one, and is it worth it?

  • @Blob709 I'm from the states, but I think that would be about $600. Based on what they're going for on ebay, that seems to be a good deal.

  • the standard is soooo much better!!! the standard is more comfortable on the frets and it has a lo better pick-ups than the faded! if you can afford the standard, get it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • is there a difference in size?

  • i think ´the faded sounded better,

  • The only big difrence betwen the special faded and standard is the pickups

  • I personally find no difference in them, other than visual. I know there are differences between them though.

  • Wich would you recommend? Standard or Faded?

  • @Swifty2893 I would always go for the best you can afford.if you can afford the standard,I'd get it,if not,the faded will get you playing

  • now i can hear the big difference.... Standart have more raw power...

But if i change the special faded pickups to something better... what pickups shall i but in??

Dimarzio SD or pickups from gibson?!?!

  • how much was the gibson starded very good 5/5

  • if i bought the special, but put the same pickups as the standard in it... do you think the tone would be almost if not the same as the standard?

  • so do you think if i bought the special and say but the exact same pickups as the standard in... do you think it would sound a lot closer to the standard?

  • the standart sounds much better...

but the faded has an excellent sound for it's prize.

  • i am getting a SG Special Faded in 3 days. i like the Special. i think its sounts better.

  • hey, i have just enough to get a special now. wud i recommend getting one or saving up another 500 euro (cuz im in greece) to get one? great cover btw

  • @ChRIs23696

    Thanks

Depends upon what it is you really want.if you really want the standard, but funds are bit tight and can only afford the faded, you'll be ok.If you really want the standard and and might be able to save for it in a little bit, might want to wait.trading in for a standard ,they won't give you anything hardly for the faded.I tried.Thats why I just kept it. I can't really answer for you because I don't know what things are important to you and what it is you really want.I'

  • Erfff... the humbeckers on the Faded are just a joke, ive got 30 electric guitars at home and try many gibsons Sg and i don't know why Gibsons made the faded model....

  • @NicklausBergen i wouldn't say that.i think the faded models appeal to those who desire a Gibson guitar but don't have much money to buy one so they developed a stripped down ,model more people can afford

  • The Standard does sound a bit better.

  • im in dilemma in getting these two..i think i hould get the standard one after hearing this

  • Holy cattle, is that a marshall plexi!?

  • @lfbales

    no,similiar

  • holy cattle, is that a marshall plexi!?

  • ive been saving up for about 2 years now and i just bought a standard. amazing guitar i cant believe i hadnt bought one earlier. ACDC 4 LIFE

  • ive been saving up for about 2 years now and i just bought a standard. amazing guitar i cant believe i hadnt bought one earlier. ACDC 4 LIFE

  • Yo dude I like that u read ur comments and respond. I have a gibson sg 61 reissue. Its a historical guitar and it sounds so amazing dude, u have got to try one out

  • Yo dude I like that u read ur comments and respond. I have a gibson sg 61 reissue. Its a historical guitar and it sounds so amazing dude, u have got to try one out

  • digging your amp, is that overdrive a pedal, or do u hate ur neighbors? :P

  • the feel of the standard is what makes it worth the extra money compared to the faded. it's easier to play.

  • Man...why are youtube commentators such smug bastards who think they know what they are talking about? Always got something bad to say about everything they watch. Just watch the damn video and enjoy it. Geez.

  • Man...why are youtube commentators such smug bastards who think they know what they are talking about? Always got something bad to say about everything they watch. Just watch the damn video and enjoy it. Geez.

  • The standard sounds so much better... i almost got a special then saw this, and just brought a cheap but decent used epiphone sg ... until i can afford 1k for the standard

  • @miktruk try the faded in a store. I was just killing time today and stopped at Guitar Center and played on for a while it was great. I own a Gibson Les Paul Vintage Mahogany and love the LP the sound better than the SG but I came away impressed with it. It may be a future purchase.

  • the faded sounds better to me

  • i thought the special`s was better than the standard.

hell yeah!!! i buy the special

  • wow good video, thanks

  • To me, I can hear the difference in the o/d section. The Standard cuts a lot of the un needed bass and sounds slightly more professional I think. But, as previously stated, the faded or special would be a better buy for the price. I have a sg special, but, I'd do anything to get a standard, dont get me wrong.

  • Great vid, thanks for the comparison. What's the second song you play?

  • ..just bought the Sg Special... awesome guitar!!! Nice vid and playin' man, bye!!

  • well i've been up to my neck in trouble... lol mad AC/DC and nice test.

  • holy god the faded is a steal! there's no difference i can hear!

  • Faded is worth the moneY!

  • wow, this video really points out that paying less money for the faded would be a real good deal. still nothing wrong with the standard, these are both awesome guitars!

  • I think you have that mic place badly. First off...remove the vocal cover from the head. Assuming it is a Shure SM58 like it looks...you should be able to unscrew it. Then put it at a slight angle to the center of the cone. Definitely not in the center of all the speakers...it'll record a more true representation of the signal.

  • LOL

its not recorded with a mic at all.

its just a crappy video recorder with a built in mic

The mic you see isn't on or being used for anything, and its not a sure.

it does suffer in sound due to the camcorder mic and also you tube causes quality loss as well

but all that stuff your talking about isn't happnin

  • great vid man

  • special that ones the one to buy

  • The special sounds a whole lot punchier to me. Maybe why Townshend played them...

  • hey, i play acdc/ airbourne and what guitar would you recomend if you played fast and litter harder rock than acdc:) thanks! i got a faded know but i want a special! please help me!

  • I don't know really.

how hard of stuff do you play, what bands, songs?

  • Okey i play Airbourne songs! i want a hot and very good hardrock tone so what guitar would you have if you would choose:)

  • go to your local music shop and play some. If you can't make up your mind, then don't buy anything. go home and play until you don't need to ask someone else what kind of guitar YOU should buy.

  • I recommend going to your local music shop and playing something, and If you can't find anything you like, or you don't know what you're looking for, then don't buy anything. go home and play for a few years.
