I will probably get hate for saying this... But I honestly prefer Jeff's take on the song. Don't get me wrong, she did a great cover. But Jeff, i feel, gave a more haunting quality to it that I'm not seeing here. Just my opinion though :)

@0LittlemissLola Elkie done her take on the song in 1978. Buckley copied the Nina Simone version. His words.For me Elkie's vocals are MUCH better than Buckleys. I will go on Buckleys version and say so.My opinion.

i'm a musician myself. I'm sure if I did a version of this song, many people would say Brooks/Buckley/Simone (whomever they prefer) was much better. That's what makes for horse racing :)

You know how some songs should never be covered? Well,this is one of them! Lilac Wine & Elkie Brooks are synonymous with each other! Yeah,I do like Jeff Buckley,great vocalist who did more than a sterling job of this number,but Elkie IS Lilac Wine! Seen her 3 times in concert from 1978 to 2 years ago the last time,and she just improves with age,just like,(Lilac),wine!
