  • No this isn't a funny song at all. It's a sad and serious song.

  • really nice song.. thanks Suzanne :)

  • nice

  • I will always love Luca.xx

  • I remember when "Luka" first came out, in the summer of '87. I first heard it on Casey Kasem's "American Top 40" countdown show while I was serving in the U.S. Navy stationed in Spain. I was touched by the song's serious topic, because I was was an abused child. I also made a promise to myself at that time that when I did have children, I would never subject them to the pain and terror I had to endure. I think it's safe to say, despite my many faults, I have lived up to that promise.

  • A very noncommercial release about a very serious subject (child abuse) that went all the way to No. 3 on the Billboard singles charts in 1987. The album, "Solitude Standing," peaked at No. 11 in August, bringing the unknown avant garde singer to pop's forefront. Three years later, she would again reach the Top 5 with "Tom's Diner."

  • "luka" in my langguage means HURT, but this song not make me hurt......other way ....feel happy ......remember the long years ago

  • I hate polish idiots. I am also Pole and sometimes peoples are thinking that I am also someone who writes stupid comments.

  • Love it now as much as i loved it 24 years ago. Life is GREAT!!!!

  • @Melablood dude your not fucking funny!!!!

  • @nibornna not supposed to be funny dude, it's supposed to be hiliarious.

i'd laugh for sure if i had a neighbour and he was fucking his little boy's ass.

  • @Melablood You need help!!!!! What if it was your son you dumb fuck?!?!? I hope you rot in hell!!!!!!! Leave me alone, I have no use for ignorant assholes like you!!!

  • @nibornna i dont have any interest in little boy's asses, so it wouldnt be my son, if i ever wanted one of those abominations.

  • @nibornna DIE!!!! and like i said LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!!

  • @Melablood your sick and i hope when there done they come and fuck you in the ass ...your a piece of shit and you pray to god i dont find out who the fuck you are....you faggot piece of shit..

  • @miss414able let me clarify. in your mind, they (whoever they are) are going to fuck a piece of shit in the ass, which also happens to be a faggot.

i had no idea feces had backsides, or any form of sexuality whatsoever.

i'd like to see them try funny stuff with me though.

  • nicely said raven

  • Tu Polacy oficjalnie przejmujemy ten klip!

  • @ravenme333 Ignore trolls.

  • Rest in peace Baby P

  • Polska?

  • I love this song because my 8 yr old nephews name is Luka! Love you my best mate!

  • @rugbygirl34 ...This song is about Luka getting abused. Not a song you want to relate to someone.

  • @mahnahkah i know what its about, I'm not 5, and i was trying to put a different spin on it because of his unique name thats all, Merry christmas.

  • such a beautiful song and still so real for too many kids....sad really...

  • I am a songwriter and I totally relate to Susan I had a manager and he compared her to me and I was complimented beyond the ft hills of Calgary then I read an article or story about her and I again felt so close to her understanding of writing and stuff

she really endured thru alot of processing non writers do not grasp

and she struggled I respect her alot

I think she has outclassed alot of people

    look at the business now

I am so shaking my head at the bunch of unread bikinis

  • My best friend is a foster carer, she see all too many Luka's. This is so moving we of us who can scoff should be counting our blessings in comparison to some of these poor children.

  • I agree with bcbcbcbcbcbc13 except men are affected aswell!!!!!x

  • FANTASTIC SONG....

  • my name is suckee ... i love u long time

  • Oh my god...I haven't seen this for years...as I've been lost since 2004...for all sorts of reasons...welcome back baby!!!

  • it's the Best thing ever you put my friend

  • Suzanne writes and performs brilliant, lovely and simple songs, beautiful.

Her brother Vincent wastes people cause they deserve it. Jules approved to a point, which is also beautiful.

    Love Davie

  • Reminds me of a girl I was head over heels in love with..should have never let her go.

  • I first heard this song 1989 when I bought a C-cassette from discount basket. This is only song I remember from that tape. Still it´s darn good.

  • 1:06 <3<3 her eyebrow <69

  • Always amazed me how hauntingly beautiful this song was considering it was about a very ugly and emotive subject. "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." So true that.

  • Di ke anno è qst canzone?!?!?! è bellissima sta canzone grz :=)

  • child abuse is probably the cause of evil perpetuating itself. My name is Luka and I was that kid.

  • Beautiful song. Child abuse is probably the leading cause of evil.

  • @Nouuuuranlovesadam Evil is probably the leading cause of child abuse!

You have to agree with that.

  • My name is Luka... I was thrown through the door... Because I kept singing this song... can you help me off the floor?

  • blah , always a nausea.. :)

  • are you 361,178?

  • Ta melodia gitarowa po refrenie - CUDO!

  • I like

  • can someone please tell me what this song means

  • @CaribbeanAMVArtist It's about child abuse

  • dark, mooving... Think about sitting on stairs and talk to someone in dark

  • @totenkopf18ah Tylko jeden polskojezyczny Pepik

  • Maybe it's just me, but I don't find anything funny about this song. Disturbing, moving, sad, yes. Funny? No. Maybe it's our society's deep discomfort with the issue of abuse (of children, of women) that makes us feel the need to make light of something that shoves the reality of it in our face as this song does. The point we should take away here is if you SEE or HEAR something, SAY something. Abuse is NOT a "private, family matter", it is a crime.

  • @ravenme333 Very true!

  • @ravenme333 With a face like that I would beat her down as well.

  • @ravenme333 Yup. I recall some years ago, I *did* hear 'some kind of fight' in the next apartment. I did tell someone who it was - the police and later on, Child Protective Services. Next thing you know, Luka's daddy is doing five years as a 'guest' in the Commonwealth of Virginia's Crossbar Hotel. See, when you say something, these predators get justice. Those times when they dont, well that is because too many people did NOT say anything. So...SPEAK UP! No Excuses!

  • @ravenme333 I found this song FUCKING FUNNY.

  • @ravenme333 Amen on that..

  • this is funny and sad its the perfect pop song really

  • wasent there a parady of this song out in the 80s at some point? i almost beleave i heard it years ago

  • Estupenda canción, estupenda interpretación y maravillosa Suzane Vega.

  • She singing now in Sopot, POLAND

  • Child abuse always makes for a fun and interesting topic, no?

  • Why just the other day i gave 5 year old a black eye!

  • @dougd1015 That was you? Sweeeeet.

  • Do you think it was in bad taste that I said that?

  • @dougd1015 If we were at a benefit dinner against child abuse, I'd say " Yes", but we're on you tube, and for whatever reason, I'm sure that 5 year old had it coming.

  • Yeah, I would probabily do that too.

But yeah no harm done, I assure you the 5 year old had it coming.

  • You just don't argue anymore . I love this music *---*

  • siegfridayor j'ai 15 ans et j'adore cette chanson donc c pas parceque une personne n'aime pas une chansons que tous le monde ne peux pas l'aimer ^^

  • This song takes me back to my first trip to NYC. Riding in a taxi at night going over the Queensboro bridge, this song played. I looked out of the cab window, pass the twinkling golden lights reflected on the surface of the river, to the windows of the buildings along side the bridge, I thought to myself as I peered into those dark windows, some of them warmly lighted, but I focused on the dark panes... I thought, Luka is there... and I felt a deep melancholy weigh heavily upon me and I cried.

  • @kizzyfaced GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

  • @kizzyfaced Hope he is not !

  • @kizzyfaced Yeah, the first time I heard this song I wanted to kill myself too. Good thing someone saved me by playing The Clash.

  • @kizzyfaced Deep... O.O

  • but that wasn't really such a long time ago ... people haven't changed that much, yet the times have. life back then was a lot harder, least that's how it seems to me now - looking back

  • I don't know how sad this really is, when I was a kid it was normal to be "put in your place" by adults - you would just get slapped arownd and knocked arownd in those days very easily it was NORMAL back then, it was considered healthy because there was always a limit to it and only what was above that line was abuse

And I'm not ashamed to say that I prefer the way we were raised to the way children are in these days

  • @Bluzme to be hit and slapped around is only okay to an extent but when it leaves a briuse...Its abuse. All I can say is to treat your child that way will have them scared to make a single mistake around you and believe it or not....Thats not okay..Children have the right to act themselves when around adults and the way things "were" have a reason to the way they arent things now..:)...have a nice day

  • @mizznohizz well of course, there is most definitely something wrong with anyone who would hit or beat a kid that badly to actually get him/her bruised up

  • @mizznohizz its never ok to be hit or slapped not even to an extent it is all ABUSE OF SOME KIND

  • This is so much better than the original by the Lemonheads...

  • @thrillzNOLA It's other way around... the Lemonheads covered her song.

  • @thrillzNOLA this is the original, Lemonheads made a cover of it

  • i really like the songs but i dont like the lyrics your story just dont argue anymore its not your bussiness anyway just dont ask me how i am if u hear someyhing late at night somekind ofd trouble u just dont ask me what it was......... i just dont agree with that if someone has trouble i try to help them i hate when people say me that its not your business anyway just dont ask me what it was

  • @fiiiiiiillliiiipa I agree and I am glad that you don't like people not helping but this song is because Luka was afraid that if his parents found out he may get in trouble. I hope if you know a little boy or girl is in trouble to get involved. It is sad that this song is what happens in the world.

  • i really like this and toms diner

  • @noodlePancake I just favorited this video because of your post. I haven'd even heard the song yet, but I pieced it together from the title and laughs were had and dogs were startled.

  • @noodlePancake Not quite in the tone of the song but you made me laugh. Good one.

  • @noodlePancake If I was the maker of this video, I would tell you, "Post one more of these infantile comments and I'll block your simple ass!!!"

  • @rroberts909 but your not, so in the meantime, maybe you should eat a dick

  • I REALLY LIKE SUZANNE VEGA THIS IS A VERY POWERFUL SONG,

HEY CHECK OUT YOUTUBE/WICKEDWANDASTALKSHOW CLICK ON THE DIAMOND COVERED BENZ TO HEAR YOUR SECRET FANTASY!!!!!

  • Suzanne Vega is very beautiful! 100 times better than lady gaga

  • I heard this song on the radio a couple months ago, remembered it, but had to search for awhile before I found out who sang it. Very good song.

  • What a bunch of boobs posting. Hasn't anyone figured out that this song is about child abuse?

  • it was awesome then and still has all you want from Suzanne

  • I was 10 years old when I first heard this song. I wasn’t very interested in what was considered “indie rock/alternative” at the time. Now 23 years later, I am absolutely floored by how good this song is. I am nearly brought to tears when I hear it. The song has such innocence to it. Very simple at first, then becoming heavily layered and complex. Such a sad feeling I get toward the end for such a seemingly subtle and upbeat song.

  • If I should pick one word, describing that song, it would be 'lovely'.

  • One of the few songs that make me cry each time I hear at...

  • @Crabbyno86 This song is made about Luka Magnotta

  • @MsXbox3600 actualy the boy luka DID live upstairs from her (wasn't abused though) she got his mail one time by accident because his name was luka VEGA. she mentioned it in an interview once.

  • Une chanson sur l'enfance maltraitée. Je voulais mettre la traduction ici mais la place paraît limitée...

    Superbe pièce de Suzanne Vega.

  • ancien mais trop tooop lol ♥

  • Have listened to this song many times over the years. Very beautiful song about a very ugly subject. Love her to bits.

  • @Thereisonlythemoment I agree!

  • Brilliant Suzanne

  • J'adore,merci Didine

  • It sure makes you think thats for sure, wonderfully handled on a sad sad subject and beautifully sung, i love her deep voice

  • ..dík,vrátili jste ,mě do dob mládí..Susane Vega tady byla jedna z mála,kdo tu směl zpívat...

  • 1987

  • I love Suzanne Vega!

  • This kid is Jason Cerbone - AKA Jacky april Jr from The Sopranos

  • I love this song I never knew who sang it. To see that it is Suzanne just makes it that much better. Huge Suzanna Vega fan. I love Tom's Diner. This song makes me cry every time I hear it.

  • didn't know it was about child abuse. Knowing this makes hearing that song much more emotional

  • I remember my step Daughter...asking me if I ever heard this song,,,I've never forgotten it.....

    I love tou always Angie!

  • My daughter Angelique...will remember..... I always remember......LOve you Always!

The guy you called Dad :=0

  • I love this woman!!

  • I listened to this on the radio a lot when I was driving my police cruiser. A abused child survivor, I found it helpful when I went into domestic disturbances ... pulled many a kids out of harms way ... racked a few shins with the oak night stick on the abusers ... do unto others ... as you would want them to do unto you .... no room for abusers ... abusers are loosers.

  • good on you mate it's a shame you can't deal out swift justice ,to the creeps who need it, anymore. and its only getting worse what with the crap sentences they give out and call it justice. Now ,with the internet they can all get in touch and see who is the most depraved and go for babies that are WEEKS old. WHY ISN'T SOMETHING BEING DONE?@HGRPhotography1

  • I remember kids in the 7th grade singing this song. That was in 1987.

  • I was abused so this song made mee feel my story was out there!

  • We named our son Luka

  • @tatiandmiro Cute!

  • C'est une tres belle musik de Suzanne mais je prefere tom's diner .

  • Oui, c' est une belle chanson mais triste car lorsqu' on traduit, les paroles signifient qu'il s' agit de l' histoire d' un petit garçon battu...
