  • I never could ink my pictures with normal brushes, so I took a tablet. It's pretty good now, but still I don't have a firm hand. I mean in tablet I can zoom my pic a lot and ink it, but if it was in normal size it would go all trmbly. I don't know why that happens, maybe it's for the lack of experience, I don't know, could you advice something for me to do about it? Thanks.

  • I use inking pens but I suck at inking. ill have an awesome drawing when I pencil and then ill screw it up when I try to ink. How can u get a super thin line with the pens?

  • sexy! dude!! ^^

  • I'm so slow when it comes to inking. I'm scared I'll make a huge mistake so I work extra carefully...maybe too carefully D:

  • great stuff

  • what i dont like about brushes is that they leave a stroke mark and layers.

  • what if you make a mistake? what if you smudge the ink or something?

is it a xerox sheet he's using?

    so many questions...

  • @altairateu I don't know about anyone else but when I'm doing comic pages I never kill the original and just make a copy of it to ink. If I make a mistake, I'd just make another copy. It's all about trial and error and trying your best to to make less mistakes. Using white ink can correct mistakes too!

  • His lines are so pretty D:

  • @Ssaaarra I Know Right O_o

  • no way g-pen for me

  • brushes are hard. is it ok that i just like to do my comics with a good old thin sharpie?

  • the chick he is inking looms like rebecca black :\

  • omg... a good EV vid?!

  • @Outie1179 TOO good to be true isn't it!?!?!

  • @Oreo493 The fact that its an expert village video makes this thousands of times better.

  • cool brushes can be sexy :D

  • mto bom esses desenhos seus !!

  • Brushes are so unforgiving. They take years to learn proeprly.

  • Brush takes YEARS to master.

  • @76ComicFan I don't know about that, it depends on the person.

  • What size and brand of brush are you using?

And what do you use to correct inking mistakes?

  • @wheezdajuice same here, anatomy definately takes practice thats for sure. figure drawing helps definitely!

Iam definitely in need of some comic paper though, and finding the right kind aint always easy..

  • @wheezdajuice I browsed through your gallery, and you've got some nice work. I like the one called "fruit" especially, since im more or a paint type person..your inking style reminds me of some of the old retro spiderman comics. I need to work on my human anatomy more..

  • @wheezdajuice I would but my sites under construction at the moment.

  • @wheezdajuice on a good day? lol. we'll I could possibly be better than you.. Im just saying that I find these video inspiring as an artist thats all..

  • thanks for tip bro! now this is gonna be looks like on my comic "jhonny curntey and the DIABLO" volume 32 :))

  • @wheezdajuice it's quiet obvious you have no knowlege of art whatsoever, or the skill involved. good luck trolling though..

  • @wheezdajuice no as an artist I like seeing people create art whether there better than me or not, its not about being better. no matter your skill level, as an artist; their's always room for improving your skills. though why your trying to start shit, I have no clue, a lil jelousy maybe? because your statement has no ground whatsoever..

  • @wheezdajuice no, my skills as an artist are a lot better than most people I know, these videos help improve with skills, and are also motivating to watch as an artist to watch. save your pitiful comments and troll somewhere else please...

  • Is it me or does he sound like ray ramono

  • Not sure if anyone's answered the question or not...but Bristol board is one of the best weights to work india inks. If you work on anything else you have a lot of...what I call "fuzzing"...but then again that depends on whether you use a quill or a brush. No doubt, inking is the most dynamic part of graphic art or comic art.

  • does anyone know what kind of paper he's using?

  • @BytheseaMrTodd i don't quite know but you can look in a store for some white paper if you don't already have some ...

  • Great to see your ability with the brush! =)

  • There's something sexy about brushes.

  • I find it to risky to do inking with brush O_O

I feel like I could mess up or the ink may drip D:

  • @NocheeseSherlock but everyone is like that thats why you practice to the point where you find it easier to make those clean lines. im often too scared that i will ruin my artwork, but if you always think that then you never make anything. also if u do horrifically screw up, then that gives you a reason to start completely afresh and maybe even change and improve your piece.

  • he has a swight wisp.

  • Really? Red Sable? That's surprising actually. I use a kolinsky sable brush because it has a really flexible tip. :D

  • wtf is the point of making a video if i cant even see it cause of all the words, way to go douche.

  • @ohyeah8954 You can turn that off, hit the "cc" button and they go away. Maybe you should ask before you use unessecary vulgar.

  • why i all the words up tere

  • No offence, you seem to know what you are doing because it looks great, but why do you ink in the line order that you do, because it looks like you are at risk of dragging your hand through wet ink most of the time.

  • What do you use to clean your brush and quills?

  • wascerry wabbit!

  • At the end of his life, the deadliest gunfighter of the Old West is given a choice: Hell or redemption. He chooses redemption and God's Archangel transports him to modern day Los Angeles to serve bloody, frontier justice on the worst dregs of society.

  • even though i can do it myself, i just love seeing tutorial and vids of people draw, i just find it soo inspirational!

  • @th3azscorpio me too dude xD

  • @th3azscorpio I know right :D I like it too and it gives me good ideas ^^

  • @LunaSims yeah especially for those times when I have artist blocks, it really helps my creativity to get movin!

  • @th3azscorpio

get a pen and some scrap paper and have a go! the more you do the easier it gets :D

  • @beautybabebuzz amen! I intend to do just that, as soon as I get some more cash flow-lol

  • @th3azscorpio

yh me too, thumbs up for that!

  • I0m not completely sure, I tried with a brush but the lines are never smooth and are ALWAYS too big, I've got black ink but with what should I start drawing with?

  • @mettalx1 It's all a matter of practice, I've seen guys use brushes and get their lines incredibly varied. You could always try with a crow quill, or even technical pens (although you won't get the line width).

  • scwew up

  • thank you so much for the vids with captions. i am an aspiring comic book writer /artist but hard of hearing and it was difficult to pick up commentry before. I think the work btw is amazing.ty once again , these vids are a great help :)

  • What Type of Brushes and ink do you use?

  • I watch this like a 1000 times a day

  • I think it's more expressive to to use a brush to ink artwork. Glad an artist is showing the beauty of traditional comic inking!

  • i hate the new YouTube-translation, the text. it is soo anoying

  • What kind of brush and ink did you use and where can I buy them?

  • what type of paper did you use??

  • What's the size of that paper?

  • thanks for the vid as i want to stray away from fineliners and use inks... i apreciate the vid greats stuff thanks

  • i once kicked 12 guys in the head with one kick......

  • @hentaiby chuck norris did that, not you

  • @kpzmzero7 im his step brother, he can do unlimited amount of kicks to unlimited amount of guys in the head, rofl

  • wherey nice.

  • i use brush pens to colour my comic. But beware some are not fade proof and not black enough. Mine works well but i dont know what brand it is since it has japanese wordings all over it.

  • ...so does nobody use pen nibs anymore?

  • Higgins Black Magic USED TO BE the best ink in the Universe -- NOT anymore, unfortunatelly. It's a grey-ish mush nowadays and the best ink imaginable happens to be TALENS, a Dutch brand. Also FW acrylic artists ink is wonderful - black of course for inkers. Does wonders in both brush and dip-pen. WARNING: brushes need to be baby-ed, washed with mild soap after use - and along with nibs RINSED in a jar with water frequently. If ink stiffens inside the bristles... uuugggghh...

  • where u get yo ink from i got to ultrech art saupplies

  • Brattyben, you're mixing up a 'contour line' and a 'contourED line'. What he says is correct.

  • what kind of ink does he use and that white stuff because my ink turns kind of dark grey when it drys and my white thing turns all pearl or tan

  • a good ink to use is higgin's black magic... works well with a 500 series paper....the paper just soaks up every bit of ink...

  • What ink is he using? I use Indian Ink (India ink or Chinese ink) and It's not as dark. It's kinda gray when it drys. But when his drys its BLACK. What kind?

  • Contour doesn't mean 'thick to thin'. It means the line that encloses the shape of the subject.

You were thinking line wieght variation.

    Beautiful stuff by the way.

  • why did you get a thumbs down for that comment?

  • i want a ink bottle

  • Great video, the only problem is the lighting in the room seems a little too dim.

  • What size sable brush is he using?

  • wow very artistic, i know how to draw but im not very good at it. and i even can write a story. wow, write and draw, what a talent i have! :D

  • Not likely.

  • I need some help to write the stories and the lettering

  • Oh, and malay8881 has a great point. Arguments back and forth about tools are fine but there are artists who can get art to look good if they're using a sable, a nib, a micron pen. a ballpoint or whatever. Try them all! All those tools are for you!

  • bell02 is- I THINK - referring to "Deleter" brand products. They're a Japanese company and here in Seattle, the only place stocking their stuff is Kinokuniya bookstore in the International District. Hard to find stuff in the U.S. for sure. Me, I'm happy with Speedball nibs, Dr. Martin's Blackstar ink and a nasty can of denatured alchohol for cleaning but then, I tend to take difficult routes when the ink's giving me what I want.

  • he a pro thats why its pretty if the amature use that brush i think its look crap all about hardship not the tool i think

  • where do i buy the ink

  • this is really good :d

  • You should use G-pen nibs, they work excellent on any type of line (except for thin lines) It really is great giving all the benefits of a fountain pen's varying width and the feel of control of a regular pen. It also doesn't scratch the paper. (They're also cheap)

Also, Comic ink seems to be the best for drawing with pens. It dries quickly, usually within 30s, runs smooth and doesn't bleed from the paper.

Brushes are still good for really thick lines, but G-pen nibs are the best.

  • Thanks for the suggestion. I bought a Faber-Castell pitt pen with a brush tip that works well, but not for detail work. I'll try the G-pen while gazing at my Bachalo Uncanny X-Men framed original for inspiration.

  • is india ink good?

  • id recomend it!

  • if it's too thick it can damage ur brush.

    but it's what i use ;)

  • Higguns black magic india ink is what he uses and what most comic artist use :-)

  • Yeah, Higgins has been used for like 60-70 years by the big comic book giants as far as I know. And hey - it's cheap!

  • Thank you so much for making this! It's the best video I've seen on Youtube for weeks!

Great to watch a true expert with a love for inking giving us tips! I only wish I could see a video by Joe Sinnott, Mark Schultz or Sam Keith... More like this PLEASE somebody!!

  • inkink is a skill that cums with practice

  • haha u sed cum

  • fianlly!some one on yt that doesnt make inkers seem like tracers!inkers add shading, depth, form!inkers are artist too!awesome like to see more!

  • most inkers have artistic backgrounds...

  • Hell, not all, some inkers can't draw... I've been told...

  • Some! But the best ones (Joe Sinnott, for example, Steve Ditko) are generally very good artists.

  • alot of people think that inkers cant draw and some cant but those are usually amateurs and unexperienced inkers.a good inker always cand draw inkers are used for adding more to the drawing! :-)

  • Its true some inkers make bad pencilers and some pencillers aren't vary good at inking .Its a talent, rarely is someone good at both, comic book inker Rivera is one of my favorite inkers but some of his pencils don't hold a candle to his ink'd pictures
