  • Is this thunderf00t?

  • I've been there, I loved it! Cool video, hats off for sharing

  • There are cameras which have microphones automatically limiting the effects of wind noise. Get one.

  • I wonder, has any glass blower suited up and made a piece right from nature? I bet it would go for big bucks!

  • I really like your videos i have done some airiel photography too. Pretty neat stuff. But on the other hand you are an idiot. You and your god shit. There is no such thing.

  • I live in Idaho and went there when I was younger! it was fun

  • Thanks for sharing.

  • I'm from Idaho and I've been there many times, that place is the most dead and desolate place I've ever seen...

  • Craters of the Moon is a nice place to go. I live in Pocatello, so it's just a short drive away. Nice video and info.

  • FYI, current thought is that the transition between pahoehoe and a'a is due to efusion rate. That is probably a bit more than you would want to go into, though. Nice video.

  • And I thought continental crust was a type of bread. :)

Fascinating stuff. You make a good "science presenter".

  • Have you thought about an external/boom mic with a wind muff for outdoor shooting in high-breeze conditions? :)

  • You've inspired me! My family and I are driving to McCall Idaho for vacation, but on our way back to Colorado we're leaving a day early taking back roads to see the craters!

  • Magma? Pushing through? Oceanic? Sinter? Screw that, God made it all, lesson over. :P Good videos, Thunderfoot. You definitely need something to block out some of that wind though.

  • Aiya! That's some serious wind! I recommend some serious windscreen technology as a Christmas present to your camera.

Great science lessons though! Looks like a cool place to visit.

  • Sounds like a great place for a wind turbine.

  • LOL

  • is he a geologist?

  • Since we can't see your face anyway, could you re-dub your commentary without the wind? The wind noise is very distracting and sometimes completely obscures your words... which we want to hear!

I love being in national parks with my geologist friends. They always have amazing insight into the terrain.

  • thanks

  • when i was a lot younger i was lucky enough to be able to walk the Kilauea caldera and i remember learning about pahoihoi and A'ha. There is another sort of lava formation (if thats the right word) called Pele's hair, that i assume forms in more explosive eruptions where the lava is blasted into the air and essentially cools into these long very thin and delicate strands.

This series is awesome. Makes me want to take a road trip soon. Thanks Tfoot

  • lava is somewhat uncomfortable to walk on, especially bare foot. Figures.

  • I bet jesus could walk on lava.

  • I dunno how you do all this alone. I would go nuts with no one to converse with.

    Cool vid, none the less.

  • Some people are, you know, introverted. These people also tend to be brainy and wise.

  • awesome man

  • very interesting, informative as always, was like a school trip lol

  • Yessss! You are such an awesome commentator when it comes to geology. Keep up the good work!

  • whats that calm tornado looking thing during the time lapse at the end.

  • Lensflare? Reflection in the windshield?

  • TF u long haired hippie! :D, bad audio but nothing u can do there.

  • very good it looks just like the moon in some places.

  • fascinating, u make stuff iv never actualy been interested in fascinating and compulsive watching! five stars mate, great stuff!

  • I want to go on a trip like that too! :)

  • Always loved the names pahoehoe and a'a.

So far your trip looks amazing and has been really interesting to watch. Keep it up :)

  • oh i was wondering what that was. i thought he said "argh".

    like The Castle Argh

  • Awesome!

  • Go Tfoot!

  • Again Tfoot, you're inspiring me to make a trip :) Thanks for this!

  • Thunderf00t, i love the music selections you make. i don't know that i'd listen to these tunes independently, but setting your videos to this music has got me interested. Anywhere i can find your soundtrack listing?

  • Man. bummer about that wind. I really enjoy listening to your explanations.

  • Informative as always, excellent choice of music at the end too.

  • Great video. Kind of hard to hear you in some parts, but otherwise great.

  • Awesom video Thunder!

Too bad it's Federal land though, one could put up a hundred windmills turbines and make a fortune!

  • I've been there.

kick ass. me and Tf00t have something in common.

that like, makes me an archangel (because Tf00t is God)!

  • Thanks for doing such a great job on these.

  • lava rocks!

  • I bet you are one of the top intellectuals on youtube. Very educational :) Keep up the great work!

  • Totally mystified as to what that was when it started :)

  • another great video by thunderf00t just one thing you have to speak up when its windy it was rather hard to hear you

  • I never knew there was a place called craters of the moon there. Thanks for informing. Glad to know you didn't actually go to the moon.

  • Do you have any footage of atomic city near there? I remember that from my trip through Eastern Idaho and it was really cool.

  • I went there recently. It was cool.

  • Thumbs up.

  • Its so cool that your making these videos. Ive enjoyed all of them.

  • very informative.

    thanks for sharing!

  • LOL,

the wind was really strong, ay?

  • really great, im a couple hundred miles north of there. one day i ought to go there.

  • I love going to Craters of the Moon. It is really a neat place to go and visit. Going down into the lava tubes in the summertime is the best, it is so nice and cool!!!
