I used to see him at Rosa's Blues Bar in Chicago often. He is fantastic! We would request some Hendrix tunes and he would do them for us without hesitation. Melvin is truly a nice person and a great performer. A joy to experiance.
I was the talent buyer/soundman for A Dough Re Mi. There is so much about Melvin Taylor that a recording can't show. A very intense cat with a great band. It was my pleasure and honor to work with this truly amazing artist
anyone out there at Rosa's the night Mick Jagger and Bill Wyman came in to see Melvin play, and Mick--who was near stage at time said, "fu--kin' fantastic, mon" ??
You know I have some of his first CDs just great. But the late stuff with the ripping ass scales, effects and wah wah just bores me to shit. I think hes better than that. He sounds like any club guy playing a screaming guitar.
sawl him whenhecame here.....amazing, and hes does some siht that looks like its fake, but allways on key......and yeah he said the same to us.....ive play since i was 8, anything with strings...guitar,bass, up right bass, piano, harp.......
One of the few guitar players I have ever seen live that made me want to quit playing guitar. The others being Danny Gatton and Roy Buchannon. I even told Melvin that one night at Rosa'a, and he of course said"Don't quit! Keep Practicing!!" A must see everytime I go to Chicago.
I don't play guitar, but I love music and play the blues harmonica. The fact that you mention those three as the three that discourage you means you know more about guitar playing than anyone I have ever known. Keep practicing. bEST WISHES, jIM.
I flew in from CA just to see him play. Great show Great Guy!
