Paul- yes, even short walks will help you increase your metabolism and circulation. You can always add a little more distance everyday. Just a block more each time and you will soon see your fitness level improve.
Walking is great for back and joint pain. Initially you will feel discomfort but with practice it will built the very muscles that support your spine, knees and ankles.
