  • This guy knows too many terms and not enough drums.

  • That the fastest kid i've ever seen!!!!!!!

  • Why was this in my reccomended list for watching "Dave Weckl" Sorry "expert" village, but Dave Weckl is much better than any of your videos...

This is not a jazz lesson, this is involuntary ear rape.

  • this channel has more videos than my town has people

  • People seem to automatically hate everything by expert village just because it is expert village and others hate them too.

  • Nobody lives in the expert village thumbs up if you agree.

  • FUCK OFF

  • jazz is about expression. he has no idea what hes talking about

  • @toothpickfacedrummer he talked about the basic swing pattern on the ride. He talked about incorporating the high hats into the swing pattern. He also talked about including triplets on the snare to keep time. It's a drum lesson for jazz beginners. Don't expect much from it.

  • bill hader on drums

  • Worst ride cymbal.............EVER!

  • wow, an actual half decent video from Expert Village, maybe there's hope for them yet..... PSYCHE!

  • with the ridw Cymbal Its called "10-10" Like come on

  • if you want to learn jazz look at buddy rich & gene krupa not at someone most trolls can beat

  • EXPERT VILLAGE IS SHIT

  • Haha. You can always tell its an expertvillage video as soon as you see the guy in front of the camera. I've got say though that he passes the fail test, although he should have mentioned that on 2 and 4 are the accents and the other ride notes are played very low.

  • "Okay, swing feel. I had a lot of students that hear me play jazz, and they audomathahhhlehy whahnha jump into it"

  • @MatHan77 lmao

  • you know what? expertvillage sucks.

  • when i play jazz it sound like him >.<

    i think i suck

  • i play guitar in a jazz band and if my drummer would play this i would hit him.

  • It's spelt 'cymbal' btw ;)

  • retard

  • "there's skip notes in there with the ands"

    Really? There's skip notes...in there...with the ands?

    Sounds good man.

  • WTF IS SYMBOL ?

  • @milad19 symbol is the metal things that r gold in thevid on top of the drum

  • @cod4lifecuzz hahahaha

  • @cod4lifecuzz Its cymbal dumbass

  • Expertvillage sucks.

  • This is not fucking JAZZ.

  • holy crap. it sounds like shit.

  • RONALDINHO GAUCHO E NEYMAR WWWORLDCUP2014 BRAZIL Orkut

  • its a privelidge watching this expert, i,ve learned such a lot, like how to waste 2minuets and 37 seconds.

  • strainge beat... If i were a drummer I probably would never use it :P

  • U SUK BRO

  • @mhavas703 ehh id say more like that one guy that hits that seth guy with a car hahaha

  • expertvillage fail #51389

  • i never heard of expert village before... i watched a 6 videos still havent got what im looking to learn... i can now understand why expert village sucks so badly

  • FAIL EXPERTVILLAGE. its ride CYMBAL not SYMBOL my god, fucking pathetic.

  • @TheWho852

You couldn't pick on his drumming you picked on the way he say cymbal how pathetic.

  • @jellyboy123 ??? what?? its not how he said it, its how expert village spelt it.

  • @TheWho852 you're 15, what do you know?

  • @ant1ph0n Apparently A LOT more than these retards.

  • @TheWho852 where does it say symbol?

  • @TheWho852 expert village can be pretty fail but.... wtf are you talking about? derp

  • @gantonski He is talking about the correct pronunciation of the word "Cymbal". Sadly enough.

  • all yall talken crap shut up.tryna talk about my drum instructor like that

  • @OurTONIO Are you a hilly billy lol? Your drum teacher sucks.

  • too much talk, no action, shitty!

  • You're cool keep it up!

  • er, i dont understand it, the video was too complicated, too much info in a small peroid of time

  • @wannabeers whats complicated? use your ears.

  • I like how my sabian xs20 ride sounds better than that expensive k series zildjian haha.

  • i totally thought you were the guy who played as one of the cops from superbad

  • @mhavas703 AAHAHAHHA! "You guys on myspace or...."

  • @mhavas703 Bill Hader

  • you should be an actor....... cause u look gay

  • ride symbols...

  • the worst drum channel on YouTube :)

  • The only half decent expertvillage drum video Imo

  • gay

  • He actually plays the ride a little too hard :S Jazz is calm, not like that

  • @XSupern0v4X its probably just to help the beginners.

  • 0:01 < click this to skip ad

  • Who did this CC? It's "cymbal", not "symbol"...

  • gay very gay

  • Im impressed! This is really good for an ExpertVillage video! Kudos to you!

  • Every real jazz player that a true jazz pattern isn't like this, it's more in the accents you place when playing the ride symbol than doing it this way. sigh

  • this actually isn't as bad as some other expert village stuff. I bet this guy could swing, where as some of the other expert village teachers...

  • @DancingMonkey12 -- agreed. I wonder how many of us could set the metronome at 180 and keep this excercise going for a minute with no flubs. Not me. Not yet, anyway.

  • @Squigley he plays the swing patern on the ride, and uses the triplets on the snare as sort of a guide

  • Comment removed

  • he is gravity blasting basicly

  • this dudes rythm has got to be wrong because he hits the snare in time with the ride.

(the snare is triplets while the ride is quarters):p

  • I think it's a load of rubbish to tell someone that you need to play 'just' the ride cymbal in your first lesson, you pick that up in about 10 seconds... also your playing the ride cymbal so loud for a jazz groove.

  • @justanotheraccount

this is obviously his way of teaching. it obviously works for his students

  • @TheStockzzz

I know, his way of teaching is what I'm criticising.

  • @justanotheraccount

    and how do you teach?

  • @TheStockzzz

I don't teach, but I've been a drums student for a few years now amongst other instruments, and I know the kind of standards you should be taught in drumming, as well as good ways in which to bring them across. Spending a lesson on tapping the ride cymbal is not only de-motivating but it's boring, and why not have fun with music?

  • @justanotheraccount

I do agree that there shouldn't be a whole lesson spent on that, but at least 5-10 mins spent getting it right is better than a week getting it wrong.

  • @TheStockzzz

Well of course, I'm not saying that though am I? I'm saying something like that can be consolidated in much less time, but of course it's variable depending on who you're teaching, or even being taught by. Which is why it's important everyone's got their technique right :)

  • @justanotheraccount

and in order to get your technique right it may take a whole lessons worth of time.

although i dont know anyone who would take a whole lesson to learn anything

  • @TheStockzzz

What you're saying is very subjective, the ride cymbal rhythm would not take that long, for the general population.

  • @justanotheraccount

'the' or 'a' ride cymbal rhythm, because there are quite a few. this one in the video being the most basic

  • @TheStockzzz

The, which is why I said "the". I don't really know what your arguing here, I can have an opinion without you gradually coming to the same conclusion through this conversation :P

  • this is actually a good video. people should stop hating on it just because the others suck.

  • That just sounds like a mess.

  • this guy is real cocky...

  • One of the better teachers on expert village

  • This is a good lesson for beginners x) ,but i know expertvillage sux(95% off all videos) but this one is one off the 5% i wold say.

  • what a shitty ride cymbal.

  • automatic close captioning, makes video more educational

  • shut up and just play

  • This guy is actually good.

  • Why does every single expertvillage video on music suck dick?

  • for an "expert" you sure are shit

  • Base player, haha

  • Ride symbol?

  • When you put rules to music, it takes away the fun.

  • FINALLY someone that actually has some actual knowledge of jazz drumming on expert village.

  • this is actually one of the better expert village videos.

  • dude is that the creepy guy from superbad

  • @HowNowBrownCow1234 YES! OMG

  • @HowNowBrownCow1234 lol i know right!

  • 10 beats per minute?? "Skip beats"???!!! Ugghh.....

Why are all expert village videos so completely worthless??

  • @rcpolk97 : What he probably meant was to increase the tempo in increments of 10 bpm.

  • C as in cymbal, not symbol. Nice vid though.

  • "skip notes"....????? This is pitiful....

  • @bomberbadj : That's what they're called in jazz drummers' lingo. Check out John Riley's revered "Bop" books, for instance -- he talks about skip notes, too.

  • is very important to teach basic fundamentals of jazz, especially for those who are beginners.

  • Correction: The ride is not based on 8th notes (quavers) it is based on 4/4 triplets with rests, like a shuffle variation. Just incase anyone wanted to nail some basic Jazz.

  • @OwenJacksonDrums

Yep. Thumbs up, bud. They need to take this video down...

  • @bomberbadj To be honest buddy, all expert village videos need to be taken down haha

  • @MrJohnnysparkles I just feel that, especially in the musical secotr, the expert village video are not taught by people who seem to be up to par with what they are teaching compared to other drummer on Youtube, on here its easier to look to master classes with successful session players, Steve Gadd, Mitch Mitchell, John Bonham etc the innovators of different genre's.

  • lol this sucks

  • lol, does this guy have any idea what he's doing?

  • whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy did he ruin the whole fucking thing with the snare

  • Many thanks, I found this very helpful :-)

  • Ah yes, the well know "walk the dog" form... very nice, I was taught to play it on the high hat.

  • @Mokusk3 I see.

  • Thank you Sir. This is really usefull work for Jazz beginners...and olds, like me.

  • @Mokusk3 cause your brains are low

  • lol guitarella4rock

  • o meeeeen....have you got amati drums?amati=shit

  • pssss...no se a mi eso me suena a todo menos jazz, y no pongo en duda el talento de ese chaval...pero yo cuando toco jazz me suena a jazz jaja

  • today on expertvillage we will learn how to sit down

  • yah, seriously thats all they teach, is bull crap that doesnt help your playing at all. all they do is show off

  • HAHA XD

  • @guitarfella4rock Peter Griffin should watch this when he forgot how to sit down *flashback*

  • @guitarfella4rock first you need a drum throne, now just kind of angle your self just right on it, now i will be talking non stop for the next minute, i know there is room for 10 minute lessons but i like to make 5 two minute videos for some reason

  • He's Using A Catch And Realease Grip

  • No he's not, he's usin' traditional grip

  • there is no "wrong"

    everybody can decide...

  • when u r doing a ride cymbal beat like that. say the sentence "tom go to bed". like, wen ur playing the "da da dada da dada da dada", it should sound like tom go tobed go tobed got tobed.

  • HOLY SHI- that made sense. LOL. SWEET!

  • haha awesome. I'll remember this one!! :)

  • About this video is a copy of Chapin`s method.

Jazz difficult rhythms are the ones that got rhythmic displacements and the ones that are in odd meter (like Time Out of Dave Brubeck Quartet).

Rides: I likr avedis sweet ride . I play with a ziltannan ride 20" (from 70`s). I am from Argentina and got by 100 u$D.

  • blast beat? you mean the lame triplets layered over the swing pattern?

why create a new nonsensical name? just get educated.

  • Uhmm, there is such thing as a blast beat.

  • @28freshw blast beat.. listen to death metal...

  • nice blast beat lol

  • heheheheh :D

  • @luisRRR69

just what i thought haha :D

  • lefty

  • Its a swing beat. Not a skip note. To swing a note, to swing the beat.

  • yeah cuz the drums had no mics..... K custom jazzy would have prefer the istanbul sultan jazz rides

  • yeah, but he plays it too hard :(

  • wtf ride is that?

    that's horrible.

and i can never find a really hard intricate jazz beat not these basics videos.

  • Zildjian K cuztom. we have one at my school on that set, and it only sounds good with my pair of Maxx 5B Nylon-tipped, totally chewed up, duct-taped sticks... lol. its surprisingly difficult to find a ride that sounds good acoustically.

  • Sounds like a jazz ride to me. Dirty, heavy.

  • you make me sick

  • omg tht is the worst ride for jazz ever

  • are you serious?

  • thats the sound of a traditional jazz ride brother, dirty and dry.

  • Yeah it sounds pretty bad

  • it turns out this guy is in an awesome hiphop band

  • whats it called? kinda like gym class heroes?

  • no..

  • This dude must be extremely good, he's twacked out and still talking in a straight manner. You can tell cause of the jaw and tongue rolling, little sucking and a smack here and there. Drummin is best for a E.C.A when you blow. Keep your hands busy and your mind focused.

  • siiiiiiiiick sounding snare!! how do you have it tuned?

  • FUCK!!! this is village again

  • this dude is maybe the best and probably the most legit drum teacher on expert village great vid!

  • I'm a metal drummer outside of school and a jazz drummer within school. Sure, metal can be hard, but it's NOTHING compared to jazz. Jazz is freaking unbelievably hard. More intricate, more timed, less hectic.

  • i agree with you drumtheheck for i am in the same situation i play metal and rock outside of school at my house becase thats mostly my type of druming style but inside of school im in percussion and jazz band. now trust me, percussion ain't that hard at all but man... when it gets to jazz :[]!! im warning u guys it ain't no more "beat the heck out of ure drums at home" time. Jazz takes practice and practice and practice to finally get the beats and solos right. u need to focus and concentrate.

  • Yeah, then you bring in fucking brushes and have to start all over.

  • haha lmao man good point!! xD

  • im the same with you, jazz is so frustrating.

  • i definatly agree..im tryin to expose myself to jazz..soo tough

  • lets not even talk about difficulty. yeah, metal can be difficult if you're doing blazing 32nd note stuff (and yes, george kollias is insanely fast on the double bass) but watch some videos of thomas pridgen. I think he's a good fusion between the jazz greats (ie buddy rich) and the metal side. there's a couple videos of him being very jazzy and a couple of him being very heavy all over the internet.

  • You have a nice, easy way of breaking down the swing pattern. A lot of modern drummers have lost touch with previous eras that witnessed so many great artists. Good job man! I'm not a professional drummer but you might get a kick out of my "old school" jazz solo clips on here. Thanks again for being on youtube!

  • I bet u play drums for about 3 months or dont play drums at all. Saying craps like this makes u saund like AMATOTR! There's nothing more difficult than jazz. INDEPENDENCE! Nile? I love Nile. Do u know who was first G. Kolliass' teacher ? The great jazzman. Check on wiki who and then checj him on utube.
