Thanks for the video, I have about 5 gallons of apple juice sitting around for when my niece and nephew come over, but this gives me a much better idea than giving it to them. jk One question though, could you have just added more apple juice and sugar to your yeast to make another batch instead of harvesting them?
I agree with HomeDistiller. 'Sterile technique' has some very distinct rules. Several of these rules were violated. I suppose my main question is how does the bottom yeast compare to the dry yeast in the amount of volume you need to use. Next question is why not just use some of the unfinished cider, add some sugar to it, wait 20 minutes and then refrigerate. Wouldn't that have the same effect as a starter yeast?
1. bottom yeast takes less time to start fermenting than new dry yeast, and with only a couple uses, tastes the same.
2. using unfinished cider doesn't provide enough yeast. i've tried it and it seems to really slow down fermentation. also, i like to wait until the yeast has really started to affect the cider, so that i know what kind of character i can expect from a given batch
are you a mute when in front of a camera? and you weren't very sterile, you should be fast and keep thing covered as much as possible. and im sure the sterilizer you used would need more than the 10 seconds of contact time it had before you added the yeast. i would only use this method once before using a fresh strain or your asking for trouble
i didnt know u could do this until 2 days ago.... and last week i thru away all the lees from my 2 54ltr demi johns!!! shame because the cider is lovely. well, i'll know 4 next year...
This dude just contaminated so many different things so many different ways DO NOT USE THIS METHOD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
