Though it is a sad fact that there were soldiers under the age of 13 serving in the ranks, with both the North and South, we can only hope that there were instances where commanders who were hopefully of sound mind deemed it unhuman for children to stand in file. It's just not right - regardless of the views of the time a child is a child. It should not have been allowed at the recruiting depots where the soldiers enlisted. As a veteran I understand patriotism, but not this.
