m8 u realy dont no what your talken bout hay.. for 1: it aint that his parachute didnt open fully, the fucken thing snaped of under the enitial force apon full opening.. and 2: he wasnt doin in excess of 200 mph when hiting the net, he washd off a far bit of speed befor contact.. and that stuped net killd him by folding his car in half and probly puting the frame bar thrue him.. the nets a piss poor design and better of with a long sand trap with no obsticles.. tradgic and unfair loss.. R.I.P.
Mark built his own car. It folded in a very strange way, not the usual grab of the net. He had slowed significantly.
Neil suffered a Heart Attack during the run. There was no chance of him hitting te brakes or popping the chutes on that run. He could not physically do it.
Wasn't doing 270 when he hit the sand more like 100 tops, this was the definition of a freak accident don't know how he died from that impact just his time may he rest in peace and it is assumed that Neal Parker had some sort of medical problem during his run because he made no attempt to slow the car as far as I know
i was there- and what attaches the chute system- to the car is what failed- what can be done- is making tack run off longer- all sand- no nets rip mark- this ruined the- winners and all Of SEATTLE, VERY SAD.
Mark Niver was slowed way down when he went into the sand. This wasn't a speed issue. Any funny car going in at that speed wouldv'e probably made the next round with a new body installed. Dragsters dont do well going head first into nets. It was a freak accident. The guy obviously loved what he was doing as was well respected by many. What else can you ask for out of life. RIP.
To be real honest with you....what they have to do is slow the cars down. I remember watching the late GREAT Gary Ormbsy run 280 miles an hour in top fuel years ago. And really that was fast enough. As a spectator 200/300 is really no different, there are hard watch either way. N.H.R.A should say...you all run a 5 gallon cell, and if it runs dry your race is over. That will slow them down. As for Marks car. It would have passed tech that day, or would not have been able to race. R.I.P. Mark
Hey thepenrev ! Moron you have no clue about drag racing or how fast Mark was driving when he crashed!!! NOT A CLUE! He crashed at maybe 60-80MPH and the car folded up!!
Don't talk about something you have no clue about!! Fricken Tool!
Feel free to watch the video here! huffingtonpost website
Racing is a dangerous sport and all of us that partake in it know that. That being said, we do it because we love it. There are enough safety precautions in place presently, but accidents will always be a pert of the sport. My condolences to both families.
@EvilPrince69 Yup your right., This bone head knows nothing about drag racing.
Drag racers know the risk and they accept it. They are speed junkies and we keep buying tickets. Mr. Niver fabricated his car from scratch, so there's nobody else to blame when your car folds up like an accordion hitting a net.
@vipleather top speed of these cars are 260 at most chk the video i got it what happened is when he hit the net i bet the front end pushed in the car and killed him not the speed he was going . chk the video of alexis de joria she was probably going 140 to 180 when she hit the trap and walked away. his car was hand built by him and not up to top standards i would bet.
@doogiee333 I watched this video a few times and his frame failed him. If you look at his opponents dragster, take a good look at how much vertical flex Niver's car doing compared to the other car. I think Mr. Niver is looking down and saying he wished he had welded in a couple more gussets. R.I.P. Mark Niver.
WOW, I am amazed at what people will write on the internet...expecially when they know nothing about what they are talking about, this was my Dad and I can tell you that the chassis he built was not to blame, the catch nets are WAY to stiff and if it had some give to it, my dad would still be with us today. Geez. :(
@afuelkid777 I am truly sorry for you loss....I can't believe they guys who owned the track didn't listen to the drivers about the nets...unforgivable.....
Hey I agree with you, but also your wrong too. They should have done more, that accident shouldnt have happened. They could take out the nets or at least the first one and let the sand do the job, he would have slowed down long before that second net in the sand. That net is what killed him, thats a shame. After the kallita death, and neal parker, this should have never happened. Nhra should have done something about shutdown area, make it longer with just sand and a catch net at the very end

You know nothing about drag racing, so what's the point of this video? To hear yourself talk? Spare us; you have nothing of any value to say.
