  • An incredible artist. The "rapid" vibrato is FREEDOM! He is singing on the breath, which gives his voice ping, carrying power and beauty.

  • He sounds almost tenor. The highs aren't as dramatic as Warren but definitely has an amazing voice.

  • it has been some time sinse i listented to this, I was raised listening to the great baritones of the past, Bonelli Thomas, Rufffo, Stracciari and of course Lawrence Tibbett, but the more I listen to this man the more I am compelled to include him among the great baritones of all time

  • Лисициан просто потрясающий!

Почему-то у меня создалось такое впечатление, что он просто открывает рот под запись. В определенных местах его артикуляция не совпадает с произносимыми словами, или запаздывает.

  • Great Armenian baritone. i miss you.

  • @joejoe4812 Russian barytone )

  • @moguchiy He's Armenian by birth.

  • One of my favorites!

  • Is it a playback thing or do all of these russian singers have such rapid vibratti? See Koslovski or Lemeshev for other examples.

  • great voice! Bravo

  • The most beautiful baritone voice.

  • Can somebody share this libretto in Russian... or at least this aria's one?

  • Absolutely outstanding! He is not a young man in this video but the voice sounds wonderful. These videos are so valuable because they give us a clue how these great singers negotiated their entire ranges. The 'oooo' sound on the A flat is amazing and done with a small open mouth. How native Russian speakers can vocalize so strongly on the 'oooo' is astounding.

  • beautiful voice....certanly deserves more recognition

  • The best Russian-Armenian baritone of all time

  • What language is this being performed in?

  • Russian

  • @TheLOLrus12 Russian.

  • Sensational inded! Bravo maestro! T Y.

  • G-R-E-A-T !

    THANK YOU!

  • O my god, he's such a gorgeous artist. What a delicious voice. So viscerally and emotionally satisfying. Unmistakable timbre.

    Thanks a lot.

  • im am usually unimpressed by many singers who are concidered outstanding by many listeners, critics etc. but without hesitation, i call this man great.

  • Wauw what a great singer, the warmth in his voice!!

wauw, i am big tenor fan, but wauw

  • He's got a very similar timbre to Bjorling...as if he's a baritone version of him.

  • @leadoffeohippus I was going to write the exact same thing then I saw your comment.

  • bravo, bravo!!!

  • The singing of Pavel Lisitsian is so effortless and exquisite that it is a marvel.

He is also singing with heart and passion and a magnificent warmth.

He is in many senses unsurpassed.

  • thank onegin for posting this great artist..

  • It was an answer for bulbataras)

  • Fantastic singing. But according to my pitch pipe, the recording is about a half-tone high.

  • Здорово!!!

  • Who was the author of this terrible Russian translation, I wonder? Why translating operas into Russian in general takes so little effort to the people in charge?! Russian is my mother tongue, but I can't recall a single aria worth the name of a "translation". That's sad.

  • I completely disagree. 1. Translations in general aren't the same as the originals, and I, for one, have a lot of complaints about translations *from* Russian (eg check out English "Mozart and Salieri" on YouTube - yikes!) 2. This particular translation is quite good: don't forget that the text wasn't exactly a masterpiece of poetry in Italian, either) 3. Whatever your opinion about the style and grammar might be, nothing gets in the way of the beautiful interpretation by Lisitsian.

  • Well, the matter that the original was not a masterpiece of poetry is exactly the reason for calling this translation an unsuccessful one:)Because the translator tried intentionally to make a masterpiece of his/her translation, and was sadly awkward at it. The transaltion must be adequate to the original, that is, produce the same effect by means of similar techniques...

  • ...But here we have an intentionally naive, simple-hearted, and thus very sincere original text (it is not a even a verse - just the words a poor uneducated street actor could utter) - and an unbearably high-flown, cold, I would say, abstract oration-translation.

  • Élégance et noblesse au service du vérisme;

extraordinaire, il me rapelle le grand Carlo Tagliabue.

  • And what a voice for a 63 year old.

  • I had completely forgotten about this great singer -- haven't herad him in over twenty years. Thank you.

  • Perfect singing, but why did he have to sing it in Russian?

  • Why not, Moffolover?

  • Well, why not, as it's technically perfect. :)

  • Darn--I always felt Warren owned this aria. Now I'm leaning towards Lisitsian. Never heard him before. What a voice, technique, mastery of phrasing!. More Pavel!!

  • Have a look at Gobbi too. There's a couple of his versions of this on here. Both fantastic singers.

  • And don't forget the superb recordings of the aria by Battistini and Amato.

  • When I first heard hun in a aria from Nero, I was stunned . Where had this voice been? Unfortunately behing the Iron Curtain. Fortunately I own a Cd where is the only artist.

  • A great voice, fabulous technique, elegant phrasing -- an artist.

  • What a powerhouse!

  • it is not surprising that many people rate him as the finest baritone ever

  • Великолепно!!! Браво!

  • wspaniały głos wspaniała technika i wspaniały człowiek

  • Wow, gobsmacked!

  • Unbelievable!

  • Such a gorgeous voice which I've admired for a long time. He's much better suited for Silvio than Tonio, but always a treat to hear him.

  • More Lisitsian! Specifically his Ja vas ljublju!
