to all you noobs who have no clue about this car. it's made by superformance cars who under license uses the GT40 nomen. Also, it is built to exacting specs of the original. you must be extremely rich and extremely lucky to own the original. this is the only way you stand a rat's ass chance of owning an icon. also Peter Brock the designer of the Cobra Daytona Coupe backs up Superformance's Daytona Coupe. It's far beyond a kit car.
@MOFUZION ''Ferrari Killer'' Is a name the GT-40's were given in the 1960s. They were designed specifically to beat the dominant Ferrari's in the 24 hour Le-mans. Which of course they did destroy the Ferrari's of their time.
@eatvids ... Do you work around cars? uhm.. thats at an idle. Its tunned for high speeds and RPM. The motor is almost not even running. If he revved it you wouldn't be saying that. What your hearing is the pistons working really hard to keep it going at low RPM.
@XxSp0rkxX seen a real one too man.. if he'd reved it it still sounds like crap. you like that crappy sounds good for you.. i dont i like how lambos and ferraris sound k buddy.
@eatvids meh. i know what you say, most people set the idle too low and it doesnt even sound like an engine. but i personally prefer a roaring V8 that seems to say "get out of my way" than an ugly ferrari, well, not ugly really but just vulgar, that sounds like someone who ate too much tacos in the toilet. or like a rat screaming under a truck's wheels. i like lambos though. Lamborghini is anti ferrari. but their first good car, the miura, was designed to look similar to the GT.
@xHeRoiiNxPSN - good call, sorry was just arguing with a buddy how the daytona and cobra arnt the same... he had never heard of the daytona ( other than the superB twin )
Superperformance doesn't sell a straight turn key version because then they would have to deal with pesky feds and their safety and emission standards.
But, you just have to buy the "roller" and then you ask them to put in whatever engine you want and viola, you have a car that you put no work into and is therefore somewhat turnkeyable.
It's not a reproduction, it's called a Continuation model as in the chassis numbers continued from the final Ford GT40 built. As far as I'm concerned it is an Original GT40, but isn't as valuable because of the date it was built.
@xr8cowboy Sir Superformance does not make kit cars.
They are built by Hi-Tech Automotive in Port Elizabeth, South Africa and they come to the USA Minus Engine and Trans to pass DOT Laws. and you are right that it is not the new GT built by Ford. The Superformance GT40 is built so exact to the original that the parts can be exchanged with the original.
@xr8cowboy ) People Superformance does not make KIT CARS! It is a complete car built to tight standards like the originals. Like Carol Shelby the cars are brought into the United States minus an engine and trans.
This is how the originals were brought into the US from the UK back in 1965,and this is how the cars of today are able to register as a 1966 today. The cars are in the carol shelby registry as 1966 GT 40's
You pick the Motor and Trans, and there you have it. your GT40...
@xr8cowboy , this is NOT a kit, its built under license. The GT40® is built under license from Safir Spares LLC, the holders of the GT40® trademark. Oh yeah, nobody said it was a 2005 GT. I believe the info above states that its a 1966 GT40.
@jordtizzle ...the GT40 was produced from 1964 to 1969. In 1963 Ford attempted to buy Ferarri but Enzo Ferrari cut the deal off and an angry Henry Ford II decided to find a company to help build a "Ferarri beater" and Lola was chosen because of their success with the Lola Mk 6.
no the gt is a replica of the gt40, the gt40 was built to beat ferrari in a race way back when, and it did 2 or 3 times. the gt is the street legal version if the gt40
Yeah I love the Shelby Cobras, have you ever heard of a "Sunbeam Tiger"? they kind of resemble the Cobras in a way, very nice cars when modified right, my neighbor has a 65' Tiger i'll have to get a video of it up so you can check it out, beautiful car with about $30,000 into it, he has had the car for about 35 years now so its been with him for a while haha, im sorry to hear about the accident, but atleast you still have the opportunity to enjoy the rest of your life, some dont get a 2nd chance.
why is everybody discussing about british or united states cars? theres no such thing as american whiteman made car. america is a word for the continent. i dunnoh why white use that name to describe themselves. oh well. the ford gt40 is such a hot piece of steel that is screaming to kick sum ass!!!!
British car! What's funny hears is no Furd fan seems to know that this was a car designed AND built, 100% in England, less the engine. The one here is a repro, but the original was anything but "pure American".
If it had been it would have done as well in the LeMans in the time as the Vettes did; LOL. Look it up.
not to mention all americans besides native americans (indians) were from england (europe) so w/e. this car came out under an american car manufacturing companies name, not an english car manufacturers name. so in my books, the le mans winning GT40's are a big part in AMERICAN racing heritage.
@shtdaprdtr The GT40 was american. The cobra was an AC Ace with the ford 427 SOHC engine. Shelby learnt this because of some V8 Allards. biggest engine and al ight car, makes itextremely fast, but americans did make good cars. there was a chrysler 300 powered racecar built in the 50's. looked somehow like a cobra, and was designed before it. in america. Carrol shelby did design the viper, the shelby cobra daytona was american... ive ever been in america, its just that their cars arent that bad.
@sakoshooter48 Oh... i though the 427(425) ci was the same in either street cars and nascar cars. Like the boss 429 or the 426 hemi, it was the same but just a bit more souped up in nascar versions.
@machone7I The 427 FE was also called the "side oiler" for the way the oil system delivered lubricants. The "SOHC" motor was one of those motors of gearhead legend which actually had a camshaft over each bank of cyclinders. These engines were notorious, ferocious, evil, and had the longest cam chain ever used in an engine. Although they started out as a NASCAR engine, they actually came to fame as Fords drag racing Hemi engine. This was the engine that went head to head with Dodges Hemi's.
@machone7I I had the opportunity to help a friend of mine install a "SOHC", pronounced "SOCK", motor in a Ford Maverick. At the time I was not a big Ford fan, much less a gear head, although I am an aircraft mechanic by trade. The first time the SOCK motor was fired up, I actually got goosebumps and had an epihany. The goddamn motor was just beating the garage to shambles, making all this mechanical sound, and snorting and farting every time we revved it up.
@sakoshooter48 The engine I have in my GT-40 is a Rousch aluminum block 427 which is dynoed at 556 hp and 513 ft/lbs of torque, fuel injected I might add.. I'm running an RBT/ZF-252B transaxel. I swapped out the SPAX shock absorbers and a friend of mine build a set of Ohlins shocks for it which are fully adjustable. I have had the car up to 207 m.p.h., and that is with my CHP brother tagging along. Have a set of muffled pipes and a set of divergent megaphones like the original race car.
Because Ford produced it. Look up the car's history. It was made in England, by independent engineers hired in by Ford to create a car that would win Le Mans.
Ford paid for it, yes. But the Ford company didn't make it. They hired in a team to design and produce the prototype. The only reason it has a Ford oval on it is because they funded it, and bought the rights for it.
that car is an icon. my son and me want to build a superformance one. who cares if it gets 4 mpg that power on the road is a rush. 427 side oiler ford big block.
pssh... who cares about MPG.. its not gunna be a daily driver. Do it while you can.. when your son is old enough to do this himself, we may not even have any gas left lol.. use it while you can!!
@khenry1991 Actually I have a 427 in mine and I get about 12 in town, 16ish on the freeway, and substantially less on the track or horsing around on a deserted stretch of road. At 200+ you are getting about 4 or 5 per gallon. Just a thought!
My feeling is if you have enough to purchase one it should NOT bother you about putting miles on it because it should be for FUN not for show. THAT said. This car is a classic and as such SHOULD BE USED UNTIL UNUSABLE because THAT IS WHAT IT WAS MADE FOR. NOT to be sitting in someones garage.
srsly....having a car sit in the garage without moving it ruins the car....the tires will get flattened and oil/gas will just be sittin in the engine collecting dirt thus messing up the engine.....if ur on the road everyone sees ur car....if its in the garage only u see the car.....
yea ur right but if ur car sits in the garage too long it can ruin it becuase ull be letting all that oil just sit there and collect dirt and debri...also the weight of the car will flatten the bottom of the tire messing up the tire pressure and giveing the tire a flat spot...lol
OK, some of you guys aren't so far off with the tractor comments. The FE series, which the 427 is based upon, was originally conceived as a power unit for a farm implement. It's one of the worst designs I've ever seen as far as motors are concerned, but apparently Ford can even make a lump of $h!t fast. Cubic dollars, even for the sixties...
Road and Track did a layout on The Ford GT40 about 8 years ago, these things go for 3 million. And the owners argue over maintaining the origianl stock parts or upgrading to more efficient braking systems or exhaust, etc. These guys get together once a year in Texas, I think it is, and run around a track, some of them don't even drive their own car they hire a driver for the run. Talk about walkin' with the big dogs...
That shit makes me sick. Rich assholes who buy these beautiful cars and dont even drive em themselves. I pay that much money I wanna be the one to wreck the damn thing and cry about it.
I so agree with you. This Ford GT is my all time dream car. Since the first time I saw it. Back in the 60's. Now I've dated myself. I will drive anything just because I love to drive, but man if someone wrecked my dream car I'd go bulistic. The most exciting car I ever drove was a 1948 Excalibur. The most fun a 1943 Jeep Willys Military. But the one car I really wish I had back was my 1957 Thunderbird. The most unusual was an Isetta, yep the one Irkle drove.
well beyond a kit car like stated above, and you can build it anyway you want :D

if u knew what its like to own a ridiculously amazing and expensive car, you would know that putting kms on it would fuckin kill you.

It's a freakin race car, the whole spirit of them is to be the best, why give yourself a handicap?

Did you notice the Pantera in the background of this video. Very nice.
violet2048 3 years ago
Nope I'm wrong it's either a Plymouth or a Dodge something. And a Model A on the right. Nice garage.

Looks like a Cuda on the rack and a Duster on the ground next to it. Picture gets to blurry to tell.
