@A31Chris Kevin, singer of Candlebox, looks like a long hair infinitely beautiful skater. Jay looks like a long hair infinitely beautiful man. Kevin looks better than Jay. Kevin doesn't look like Jay.
This is actually the only post grunge song i like, it has the same sound but candlebox's other songs are too mainstream. After the early 90s alot of bands like stone temple pilots, candlebox, started coming to seattle to get discovered. Post grunge bands ruined it by trying to get hired by a major label company. I know I wasnt born during the grunge era but I wish I was there. On nights where bands like nirvana alice, soundgarden would play clubs within walking distance in the same night
@chinchillaman1 the era doesn't have much to do with what's post grunge and what's not... soundwise, this isn't post grunge at all. most people classify it as 3 Days Grace, Nickelback, Hinder, Theory of a Gay Band and all that lame shit. Candlebox is fueled by loss and addiction, just like Staley, Cornell, Vedder, and Cobain were. People who go on about the big four are just fanboys. Fuck the era, fuck the timing. It's the sound and the music that counts.
@MnMz4L1F3 I agree with you. the era doesn't have anything to do with whats post grunge or any other genre at that. But " The people who go on about the big four are just fanboys", ill have to hang you on that one man haha. there called the big four for a reason, the great music.
the meaning of this song is: if you wanna be my friend thats cool. its my life, if i choose not to do them dont push them on me. you are my friend, ive done drugs and i dont want anymore, thanx, but no thanx. we'll just hang out and be cool with that, but dont push your drugs in my face, i dont want it no more!!! ;)/
"Fuck you, I don't want this no more..." Stunning song... if you don;t like it then do me a favour and fuck the fuck off. "As I'd try for you yes I'd die for you..."
I feel that the timing of their honesty about sobriety stunted their popularity... the early 90's were way too heroin sheik, and in hindsight with regret ..
We went to a strippers club on my friend's birthday and then, towards midnight, a tall (like 6'2) gorgeous girl used You for her number. WOW, unforgettable performance.
p.s. I know it has absolutely nothing to do with anything, but worth mentioning.
@christiannandres these were the ones that came to mind first, and of course Bush now that i think about it, not a big fan of nirvana (way over played).
I don't care if it's about drugs! Doesn't mean I can't relate it to something else. Depeche Mode's Never Let Me Down Again is also about heroin, but I always thought of my friends when I heard it. Why does it matter, anyway? Listen to it and relate it to whatever you want.
here is the obvious reason why this song isnt post grunge, came out in 93, that genre/term hasn't been coined yet. so its impossible for it to be post grunge. Some people consider none seattle bands to be post grunge. i find that very arrogant. Grunge to me is the sound, fashion, and lifestyle the bands performe with. post grunge bands dont do the grunge fashion or the true grunge sound. badns ike foo fighters, creed, 3 doors down, etc.
I love Candlebox and have been a fan since way back. This CD played on repeat for a LONG time and got me through a lot. I saw them in concert in Kalamazoo Michigan my junior year in high school, (I'm 33) but if he is singing against drug use, he sure did an awful lot of stopping in the middle of songs and sitting down on stage to pass a joint with the crowd ;)
@yankeechic77 saw 'em play 6/25/11 in Vegas...like 6th time -- Kevin did intro b4 this tune i had not heard previously. He said was about a d-bag business manager they had in the early days...who was obviously doing more drug dealing than managing...so it's not so much 'get your DRUGS out of my face' as it is 'get YOUR drugs out of my face'...if that makes sense :) anyway, Vegas show was amazing! Always a great live show from C-box!
This song aint about drugs to me personally. I relate to it in a different way. You fight and you fight to help people, you do what you can to make the world a better place. But it's all in vein, because the majority of people you are fighting for are empty shallow douchebags that don't deserve your help in the first place. Regardless, you feel you must keep fighting anyway, or the pain in your heart will never truly subside.
@Unlocalist I'm quite accord!! I may add, that we people may save ourselves, as you say some of the people you want to reach are douchebags... and they think you are crazy of dumb or just a waste, sadly I saw that face too, so... I turn all my fighting love to my home, wich is OUR planet... (with all it's life within, -animals may get you better than people eventhou the language, or the so-called human comunication, ha!-)
I'm too on my own, SUCCESS TO ALL THOSE LONELY AWAKENED SOULS!
@Unlocalist I think when he wrote this song he meant to take the addiction of drugs and translate it to people. For one, when quitting drugs, addicts often relapse because it's easier to go back to the people you know than it is to start a whole new social life. And perhaps it is Life's way of letting you know that the people who are truly worthy of saving may not be the people closest to you, that you might have to search for them, but when you find them it will be truly rewarding.
@yaggharekfire This.. 100% good god, I was so dead-stuck on keeping the old social circle I had in the 90s and another one in the early 00s because it was all I knew. It was easier then starting over. Then I left, I was alone for a very long time, and then found some real sincere decent people that are worth saving and it's been so rewarding and healing.. too.
Music is not about drugs, I agree. Music is good enough to completely forget all drugs. If you don't want to give up yourself, if you are or wanna be proud of yourself, just because of who you really are and can be, don't play with drugs. This song don't talk about them. Talk about a rebel thinking, and some message about the final empathy.
Neverforgoty, I agree with everything you just said, except one thing: this song is against drug addiction. It's raising consciousness against drugs. Candlebox has a history of touching on social/political issues. Have you seen their "Stand?" Peace to you, my friend, Andrea :-)
If people would listen to just about any music is about drug addiction or being a pusher "dealer". People think meth, dope, ect. any speed just become the choice drug. Its been used for years and years its just people are more open to telling others about it and as far as singers they sing about what catches the young peoples ears every teen likes to rebel on what their told what not to do so if mom or dad says dont do drugs their going to do it just to impress friends or who ever.
This song is about Meth addiction and kicking then watching the people you know that are still addicted suffer around. That's why he says "You lonely people keep on passin, passin awayay." Because meth kills.
meth wasn't even that popular when this song came out. if you had any knowledge or background of music during this time, you would know that heroin was the beast that killed. cocaine was always a problem, and people overdosed, but heroin destroyed several bands and lives of lead singers in this era. if you're talking about the 2000s, yeah, probably meth, but even though this song is clearly about drugs, meth wouldn't make nearly as much sense as heroin.
are you kidding me, what do you mean meth wasn't popular then? Coming from a recovering meth addict, it was popular my friend! I don't think it really matters what drug they're talking about in this song or any song, drug use is an epidemic - has been and always will be. The best we can do is educate and lead by example.
people with money were not using meth in the early 90's. meth is a drug for commoners who lack the cash flow to get better drugs. take a look into rock history during this time period and see that heroin was rampant. just because it was popular with you and your friends doesn't mean that layne staley, etc were trading in "quality" heroin for a redneck drug like meth. sorry that you got addicted, glad you were able to recover, but don't kid yourself. meth was not the drug of choice.
Thanks for your words of encouragement! By all means, You're right, herorin was the drug of choice by many rockers, especially the "grunge crowd"! As for us "commoners", you'd be surprised by the rampant use of meth by all the classes of people, Wake up man! It's not just the "commoners" as you so put that are using meth. And not just a "redneck" drug either! It all started in California. Hell, Johnny Cash and many other artists were using meth in the 60's and 70's before it became popular.
it's not a matter of waking up. we're talking about the early 90's. of course it's rampant amongst all classes now... and was even more popular about 5 years ago... but in the early 90's, meth was nowhere near as popular as it got in the last few years. the meth that Johnny Cash used was nothing close to the dirty, made-in-a-trailer stuff they have now. the origin of crystal meth was a far cry from the filth you can get on the streets today. same with cocaine, it used to be clean.
Well, SB I think you got me there. Thanks for the chat. Nice to have an intelligent convo with someone on here without it leading to negative feelings and people getting upset, especially over topics that really don't matter, right? I've seen too many of those. Let's get back to basic's and what this forum was really about, ranting about how great Candlebox is!!!!! Take care my man.
@sbnewman actually plenty of people were doing meth back then. I can assure you, I was one of them. Luckily I never allowed myself to become addicted. I wish I could say the same for some of the former friends who became addicts I've left behind. :(
I'm not saying this song is about meth. I'm just saying that meth is nothing new.
I thought it was about drugs, I could be mistaken though..."I'll cry for you...I'll die for you..its for you..I'll never push for you people...you lonely people keep passing time away..the pain in my heart is real..pushing your pain round my door...take control in your soul, come around town, steal another dime, take another line....I don't want it anymore...this pain in my heart its for real....don't you go pushing drugs in my face...I don't want it no more..."
I think it would have been fantastic if they had put the whole song in with him yelling at ppl to keep their drugs out of his face cuzz he is DONE with them! He doesn't want them. There is a lot of meaning to this song! LOVE IT!
I think this song is absolutely beautiful he expressed his hatred for "those people" wonderfully I could feel the anger in his words and his voice i love it.
I've listening to it again and again, and the only think I hate is to see that girl in that situation!! I know it's just good for the video story, but it hurts!!
My favorite band ever. I had the priviege to hang out with Candlebox this past Friday for a few hours and let me tell you, there isn't a more GRACIOUS group of guys!
This is my fav song from Candleox. I haven't seen this video in ages, and I must say. I hat when pose and try to look all "artsy" like that. it's so gay.
fuckin A...i have been trying to find out this song forever, and just today I was thinking, you know it sounds like candlebox, let me youtube that and search the results...what do you know
oh...so there...can't believe they aren't around so much more. he has a beautiful voice. my best friend was in rehab and this and the other :far behind" still reminds me of her.
their greatest song and album ,when good times were good ,,and what happened to all the cool girls we used to have back then

Martin's singing is beyond note. It's a shame the band didn't peak a few years earlier.
emoxbakies, the album came out in '93. But remained on the charts well into '94.
