@GrainneMhaol - firstly i think archeology is very over-rated and should never be allowed get in the way of modernisation. And secondly Ireland is screaming out for a deep water port and scare mongering like this is of no benefit whatsoever.
@39newcourt On the contrary, archaeologists in this country have become the paid lackeys of the NRA and the building industry. This has meant that our heritage has never got 'in the way' of any corrupt or dubious project that has been floated. If we are such dire need of a deep water port, then what was the Port Tunnel (E750 m) for? Surely the planners could have seen this coming? Oh yes, they did, see ESB report June 1990 entitled "Port Infrastructure in Ireland: Requirements and Proposals".
@39newcourt Trucks from Dublin Port, yes? The port at Bremore would render Port Tunnel obsolete and a waste of money, which was known as far back as 1990. So the point of building it was...? To subsidise KBR and the building industry, plain and simple. So how do we know Bremore won't be another white elephant?
@GrainneMhaol, The tunnell was built to get traffic off the streets, there was no conspiracy theory behind it, it was built because traffic was shit, end of story. I dislike Fianna Fail more than anyone but the port tunnell is quite possibly the only decent thing they did.
Nonsense

@GrainneMhaol. The port tunnell was built to get the artic trucks off the city centre, plain and simple. We can agree to differ on archaeology.
