@Stevenhiggles Thanks - actually I have switched over to a dual exhaust with X pipe cross over since this video. Not as throaty outside as the flowmaster but got the flow I needed when I supercharged the car.
@jcarolan75 you think getting a 3" would a little better? Assuming you have higher compression now. Whats the hp on the Stang since the supercharger. 320?
@Stevenhiggles The car is putting 298 to the rear wheels and 313 of torque with the supercharger. Had a little more torque with the nitrous. The 2.5" dual flows well actually. The only people that have found the need to move to a 3" are those who stayed with a single exhaust.
Hmmm funny you should say that, check out some of my other posts because I did change to a dual exhaust set up. This single Flowmaster American Thunder was a lot louder though
Sounds good. Um, remind your dealership of the Moss-Magnussen Act. They CAN NOT void your warranty unless the modified part CAUSED the failure. Then it's only the affected part & aftermarket part that is not covered. I have been around the block with dealerships. The easiest thing to do is to just find one who isn't a mod Nazi. Still, tell them you know your rights & that the statement that it will void the entire warranty is total BS! Look for a better dealership! Trust me.
im thinking of getting this exhaust, or the SLP super-flo.
tell me, did you add anything else to you mustang, besides the AT exhaust? like new intake or something, cause this video doesnt sound as ricey as the other American Thunder Axleback exhausts.
I had the C&L intake and a tune on the car at that time. Great sound but after I put the 3.73 gears, aluminum driveshaft, and stiffer LCA's it was too loud on the highway, couldn't talk to anyone in the car or hear the radio and with a one hour commute it was too much. So I went to a dual GT500 take off system and now an Xcharger supercharger
Thanks. The AT had great sound at wide open throttle, nice rumble. But on the highway with 3.73 gears it was too loud inside for me and I ended up going to a dual GT take off.
I haven't heard the single yet, a friend had duals on his V6 and they sounded very good. The American Thunder though might be a super 44, at least that was what my tuner thought.
I bought a 2009 v6 pony package, I could have got a 2010 for the same price, but I prefer the 2005 - 2009 look, does this alteration effect the ford warranty, also nice white stripe, did you do it yourself, or how much.
Changing to a different muffler won't affect the warranty. The muffler for example won't affect your driveshaft or transmission - of course if your muffler should separate from the car then Ford won't warranty that part.
Thanks on the stripe. I had someone install the vinyl for me, and since then have painted it after I was rear ended and had to replace the bumper. The vinyl stripe came from Baltimore Street Mods
You have to ask your local dealer about it first. I bought the exact same muffler for mine but asked before I put it on and Rockwall Ford WILL void the warranty... so I put it on anyways and will just have to tow it to the next dealer if I have to
You might want to ask them for clarification on that statement. For example how could a different muffler affect your AC or throttle body wiring? You are correct that a lot of mods are up to the dealer when it comes to warranty, but a muffler will only void the muffler warranty since it is not the Ford muffler any longer. If your rear differential breaks, the muffler has nothing to do with it.
Oh the service department manager was very clear that even if it is my tachometer that went out the warranty will be no good. I'm right there with you when you say a muffler should only void the muffler. Of course this could be the only dealer for Ford that has this policy, but I still suggest calling just to be safe.
That is the only service department that I have heard of which will do that. I'd go to a different dealer. My dealer has no problems with the mods, in fact they always take a look to see what is new and covered blown head gaskets under warranty with all of my mods
The C&L is a great intake - but you have to get the car tuned for it because of the increased flow. Tuning the car though helps a lot with performance, and gets rid of the throttle lag on the automatic. The K&N is nice, but you won't get the performance that the C&L will yield.
Hey maybe you can answer this: on my videos with this exhaust, there is a loud snapping sound. That sounds annoying and I don't want that. Is is because of maybe a bad camera? Please let me know. Thank you.
hey, are you happy with the way it all turned out? sound inside and well outside? Cause im thinking of getting the American Thunder but not yet sure. Your input would be highly appreciated!
I really liked the sound of the AT but when I changed to a set of 3.73's in the rear it was too much on the highway. With the stock 3.31 gears it was fine, but the new gear put it in to a drone situation and I couldn't hear the radio or talk with a passenger easily. Up until then it was great - I have since changed to a dual GT take off system just because of the gear change.
Is this the Flowmaster 17421 kit? I've been looking into it and haven't heard too many sound clips on this kit. Do you have any other upgrades such as headers, etc. or is it pretty much stock?
That is probably a Flowmaster 40 or super 40 - this is the Flowmaster American Thunder, which is specific to the 2005+ Mustang and includes the exhaust tip and mounting bracket. The American Thunder I have heard is basically one of the 40 series, it just includes those extras rather than having to buy them separately
That is just the single Flowmaster American Thunder, no other exhaust work. Simply replaced the stock muffler. I bought the muffler off a friend when he changed his system so only paid $100. You can find them on Ebay sometimes. New they are around $225 if you check around
It had a great sound in town and at the track but since then I changed to 3.73 gears and the new gearing made it really loud and droned on the highway. It became too much on long highway trips.
no not really, with flowmaster, the sound levels adjust with speed. my friend has one on his ZO6, it sounds soooo awesome. when you floor it, it's kinda loud but on the freeway it's not over bearing, kinda like a normal car, but you can feel ut though...it's nice

At the time I didn't want to change everything out. Since then I have upgraded to a FRPP X pipe and dual GT take offs. The drone from the AT became too much on the highway after the 3.73's were installed. I really liked the sound around town, but I commute 50 miles on the highway so it was too much.
Hey , I am like in your same situiation except I haven't done anything to my V6. I was thinking of the FRPP X pipe..but then the cost is a LOT more..is there a drone with the FRPP??
I don't have any drone on my set up. I plan to upgrade to the GTA muffler that is used on the Shelby GT and my understanding from friends is that they don't drone either - the GTA is a little more aggressive sounding muffler than the stock GT muffler..
i like the idle..but sounds too much like a ricer when you get on it...who ever thought of putting a v6 in mustangs otta be shot.. it sounds better than a stock v6 stang though ill give ya that..go for duals
I guess you should find the person who brought both the v8 and v6 back in the 60's when they first came out with the mustang, it had both a v6 and v8.. so anyone who says a mustang ain't a mustang without a v8 is just clueless. the v6 is the original but the v8 is merely the original high performance version nothing more.
The Mustang was originally designed for a V6 engine when it first came out in 1964. The very first production Mustang came with a 170 cid six cylinder engine.
uhhh -gee - thanks for the comment. You don't like it I did, sounded better than stock and good sound at the drag strip as well as it freed up some HP.
Hey man, that is what I just put on my 07. I love the tone but there's too much resonance inside the car for me. Anyone recommend a great sounding single muffler with low interior resonance?
The only thing that was changed on the exhaust was to remove the stock V6 muffler and put the Flowmaster American Thunder back on in its place. I do have a C&L air intake, but I doubt it made any change in the sound at this end of the car!
you should do a custom borla. It may be expensive but the flowmaster has horrible exhuast flow. Sounds good tho
