He died when he was only 31 years of age. In his very short life span he produced more heart wrenching music than any other composer, yet received no recognition. It is very sad to see him below Dvorak (who in fact absolutely idolised him) and not side by side with beethoven - where he belongs. The greatest love and sorrow indeed - and the greatest music. Still not recognised, how much longer will it take? Have so few people listened to the C major String Quintet and wept?
@AmadeusMozart99 mozart is one of the best compuser in the history. His music is so beautiful, i like many piece of mozart ( requiem, piano concertos,...) but i prefer beethoven because his music has got more strength and passion.
what a travesty of a compilation of composers!! there is no contest as to who is the greatest and it is not beethoven.anyone who has listend to a variety of classical music knows that number 2 is number 1.
The first two pieces are respectively the Gavotte and Gigue to His Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D Major BWV 1068, the last piece is the first movement to His Harpsichord Concerto No. 5 in F Minor BWV 1056. And indeed, Great Father Bach is waaaaaaaaay out of anybody's league. There's Him, then everybody else comes after.
There is something about Beethoven that appeals to the reach of human striving, a sort of "Faustian" personality! :-) Mozart much more personal, more delicate and, dare I say it...feminine, with all the good things that implies (elegant and capricious, cute and playful) in a way that Beethoven could not be. I don't think that makes one better than the other, it is such a blessing to get to hear the work of both of them, what an age that was, the human creative mind at the top of its game :-)
I'll say this again. Why no Igor Stravinsky? He was more musically innovative, clever with orchestration, and rhythmically ahead of his time than anybody up there except Beethoven. And let's not forget that we cannot exclude 20th Century Music!
First of all, thank you for this list. I appreciated watching it!
Now the criticisms:
1) Antonin Dvorak does not belong in a top 10, as he was a marginal symphonist whose greatest contribution was being one of the few to blend a German Romanticism with folk elements from South Central Europe and America. His chamber music was great, but not his symphonies.
2) Igor Stravinsky does belong in a top 10, in fact probably up there at No. 4
3)Chopin so far ahead of the more clever Schumann? Nah
Really, really great video!! But why...isn´t Franz Berwald and Joseph Martin Kraus (the two greatest composers ever in Sweden) in the competition? By the way...Daniel...have you heard my classical composition: "Thats Life"?
Great Video, also kinda fair, but I have to agree with the spanish guy, Mozart inspired Beethoven in many areas. But when it comes to inspiration and stuff like that, I guess Bach deserves a prize since he created all the chords, which all the other composers after him used...
The second piece of Elgar was the Pomp and Circumstance No 1 and the second Tchaikovsky was the Romeo and Juliet Overture. The third Tchaikovsky was the 1812 overture.
I love Tchaikovsky, he's such a happy composer. And his songs are so diverse, from his first then his fourth as an example lol and that famous one you walways hear in love scenes lol (at 8:04 I alwasy forget the name). Awsome vid, hope you get over 100K views soon :)
Well i partly agree, and I guess it is hard to decide within the top three here. They are all musical gods ;-)
Personally though I think Bach just has more brilliant pieces than the other two, and his pieces are also harmonically more deep. I do not think that is taste, that is fact. But of course the best of Beethoven is surely one of the best music ever created.
Keonepax sent this to me -- good survey and video. I can't argue with the results at all! Congratulations on 100 videos, I'm subn so I won't miss the next 100!
great video but I like that Mozart was the number 1 but everything else is incredibly beautiful beautiful beautiful imprecisonante beethoven was excellent.
I salute you Beethoven! And good work, Earthic, even though me personally would have wanted to see Mozart as the winner. Oh, and by the way, what is the name of the first Shostakovich-piece?
This video made come tears to my eyes... when I saw Tchaikovsky I just thought in his painful life, and in all the music he composed. He would be really proud of being 4th and following the great Bach. I don't want to be selfish with the other composers, I also admire Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Dvorak, Shostakovich, but Tchaikovsky is the only one that makes me feel this... it's something I can't explain with words. In appreciation of all you have done, this deserves to be in my favourites. Thanks
I knew that the 3 first would be these. There is simply NO OTHER answer in the history of music. Personally I voted the...#2 but I said to my friend earthatic that my soul is between the #2 and the...."winner". Fair enough I think, concerning the 3 firsts. Brahms is another surprise, I was sure he would be in the first 10!
Many congratulations earthatic! Perfect job! I told you in the PM that is hard between between #2 and #1 but...the triad is always the same, regardless of who comes first! Well done mate!

Dvorak must have been voted in from the US (NWSymphony) and Elgar from the UK. In my country, Elgar would not even be in the top 25.
