IP Addresses are unique to your network. Unless you have a DDNS address for the remote computer (allowing you to connect from anywhere in the world) it is on your network. Therefore, it really doesn't matter if other people see your IP Address. Most computers IP addresses start with 192.168.1.(and then numbers). Unless you have got a spesific 'Static IP Address' of your choice, it will start with the defect numbers (192.168.().().)

For all of you whos remote desktop didn't work, there's a solution. Go to start ..then right click "My Computer"... then click "remote"...then check off the boxes. I had the same problem but then i did this. I use xp

@iroxsmelly sorry if you already have the answer to nthis question but yes they both have to be connnected to the internet and what if they are on the same router? well for this tutorial they BOTH HAVE TO BE ON THE SAME ROUTER FOR IT TO WORK! if you want to connect across the world or on different routers then reasearch and use remote desktop WEB connection
