Excellent! I did this same song as a transcription project in College... Did you learn yours by ear or a chart? I used some different chords in the intro, and some different positions/shapes during the solo. The chords in the beginning are tough to hear because there are 2 guitars on the track. Your feel is great though and the performance was flawless.
This kid is GREAT !! He memorized Joe Pass' solo exactly and played it impeccably. He learned so much by tracing Pass's steps. At his age this is just superior work. The kid's got the music in his head and nothing can stop him from developing into a real master.
This kid is GREAT !! He memorized Joe Pass'ssolo exactly and played it impeccably. He learned so much by tracing Pass's steps. At his age this is just superior work. The kid's got the music in his head and nothing can stop him from developing into a real master.
Nice playing - awful aliasing on the recording though (could just be my computer though). I've been mucking around with guitars for 20 years and you're better than me by a factor of several hundred..
Awesome playing, just one piece of critisism, during the chord progressions the melody didn't sing out as much as i'd hoped, a little bit muddy. Excellent performance.
that was great musicoo, solo was very clean. I found a tab online with slightly different fingerings, but I guess you can refinger it anyway you want in the end. I can stay with this one for weeks. I want to be able to keep time in the solo, add a bass each measure, maybe. I'll see how i goes...
the book you have got is a "best of joe pass..." by wolf marshall, yeah? so there is a mp3 file that is played by wolf marshall himself, so you just left a sound output for 100%, then you have got a backing track. could you perhaps put the book on internet so i can download it. i need some other tunes in there, would really appreciated if you would help a fellow jazz student.
great work young man. this was in 2006. Now post the same song, and see how you have progressed. Keep it your style. Look at the great ones, take what you can and need, and run with it.
You don't give yourself enough credit. You were great! Joe Pass doesn't make learning his renditions easy. You did well with his arpeggios and everything.
This is a very nice rendition of the Jazz classic. The only two guitar versions that really floor me have been the Johhny Smith version and the Joe Pass version. Johnny's recording is very timing intensive, the phrasing quite extrodinary. Joe's version lends itself to a slightly more modernish tone and timing and also very effective. This is a nice tribute to the great Joe Pass version.
OOOPPS! I neglected to pay tribute to yet another version played by the great Eddie Duran on the 'Vince Guiraldi Trio' recording cut in 1956. This is a superb jazz recording and features Eddie on some wonderful numbers, two where he burns up the neck 'Fascinating Rhythm and Its' De-Lovely ,
a beautiful solo of 'OssoBucco' and of course 'Django'. The arrangement is one of the best, as we've come to expect from the immortal Vince Guaraldi.
Im 24 and just barely am I getting into playing Joes music. You are impressive ! and I am glad that people out there such as yourself are keeping it alive.
Well done! I liked your feel on it. I transcribed this a few years ago, and it ain't easy. For Django is probably my favorite Pass album. Thanks for keeping it alive.
Great work! Learning other peoples solos is good, but you need to work in the fundamentals if you don't already know them. Learn diatonic harmony, idiomatic chord progressions like II-V-I in major and minor, I and III-VI-II-V. Message me, and I can send you some good resources for learning jazz guitar! Cheers!
Wow man, absolutely incredible. Please, please keep pursuing this type of music, at least along with whatever else you're playing. You've got the talent and the feel for it that many players lack. I put this video in my favorites and watch it when I need to hear some truly inspirational music played really damn well.
Wow. Unbelievable. Far better than any of the shredders who post their noise on You Tube. I wish there were more people posting stuff like this. Are you able to improvise stuff like this over changes yet? :)
Half of what you play would be 50% easier if you used your little finger. Nice work though. Now work on your own ideas, rather than copying, then you could be the next Joe Pass.
you are a great young player. Work on your swing rhythm here more. Excellent lead work! Treat yourself to a nice holly body - when I did it made me enjoy playing that type of music 10x more! You deserve a nice ax to play that great material on. Good job
i did this same solo for school, and you did very very well, but some of the voices you are using are more complex than they need to be. but if you want to continue doing it this way, its not necessarily incorrect! keep up the good work.
dude. WICKED good, as we say here in new england. concur somewhat with andostrates, would like to hear you playing such lovely stuff on a nice gibson semi-solid body. oh, yeah.
You are great but your rig sucks! Never play jazz on a Strat- gods cry!!! plus they cant handle the pressure of jazz strings (which start at .012) I play Ernie Ball "Not Even Slinky" with unwound third
Ibenez makes a really nice hollow body Jazz guitar AF-75 Listen I've paid thousands of dollars for a guitar and never had one WOW me as much as this baby. Which I paid $350.00 at Guitar Center but I bet you could find a used one for a couple c-notes
