MMA is all about neutralizing opponents styles to keep them out of their comfort zone forcing them to make a mistake. That said a grappling expert that learns striking makes for a very lethal fighter. MMA requires more knowledge & skill sets than just boxing, but at the top levels of both sports requires extreme amounts of dedication and experience.

@pug1365 The technique Kimbo used on Mercer is called a guillotine choke, and escaping that position is standard fare in MMA. Basically, you pop your head out of the hold.
The problem is Mercer wasn't properly prepared for this fight. If he was he could've been able to escape the choke easily, because Kimbo's not very good at it. When Kimbo tried choking a more experienced MMA fighter in a later match, he failed.

@LIGHTNINGLEVIS I wouldnt get knocked out though and I been in plenty of street fights with good street fighters, and i used my bob and weave method and they rushed me, I hit him with an uppercut straight to the ball point of the chin, and he was knocked out for a good 15 minutes. I didnt have my boxing licence so I didnt go to jail. Muay thai is crap it is exaggerated

@fromboiz2kingz Boxing is still part of fighting, its just not the only important part and is easily countered as seen here by superior grappling. MMA is all about neutralizing opponents styles to keep them out of their comfort zone forcing them to make a mistake. That said a grappling expert that learns striking makes for a very lethal fighter. MMA requires more knowledge & skill sets than just boxing, but at the top levels of both sports requires extreme amounts of dedication and experience.

@pug1365 The technique Kimbo used on Mercer is called a guillotine choke, and escaping that position is standard fare in MMA. Basically, you pop your head out of the hold.
The problem is Mercer wasn't properly prepared for this fight. If he was he could've been able to escape the choke easily, because Kimbo's not very good at it. When Kimbo tried choking a more experienced MMA fighter in a later match, he failed.
