No one should take any of this book seriously folks.......corrupt politicians, and religious organizations have manipulated this book for thousands of years to suit their own fear inspiring purposes. All of the stories in this book cannot be verified by any other text out side of the bible, in other words if a god of infinite wisdom seriously had a hand in this book Red flags should immediately go up in your mind, if there not you have been seriously deceived by cunning religious organizations
You base your faith in the 66 books of the Bible on what the Bible says about Jesus Christ? Isnt that circular reasoning? What about the fact that most of the gospels...hell...all of the gospels were written by who really knows...from 40 to 100 years after Jesus supposedly died? What about the fact that not one shred of solid physical evidence of any miracle or person mentioned in the Bible even exists...with the exception of a few of the Hebrew O.T. kings? You have got to be kidding me?
@victorseay You will have a hard time finding any serious scientist or historian to agree with you. Even the most atheist historians affirm that the people of the NT existed and were dynamic characters, though they doubt the supernatural aspects. There is overwhelming evidence that Jesus of Nazareth did exist, evidence from outside of Christian circles to validate it. You do not have to place your faith in Jesus, but it is only foolish to not believe in him.
Look at how hard Satan works to discount the prophecy of God, even on something like youtube where you have the option to not watch what is stated, he crawls in like the thief he is to seek, steal and destroy. I the Bible isn't to be trusted why does Satan work so hard to keep us from believing it, trusting it and reading it. Judge for yourself read the words with an open heart and mind and see the transformation for yourself.
No. We cannot trust anything in the bible. The books of the new testament were written decades after the death of jeses from oral stories handed down then translated by hand over and over and over again. The books of the old testament are even worse. The god descrobed therein is an evil genocidle blood thirsty megalomaniac that kills thousands of men, women, children and even helpless innocent animals. What a guy!
@max2right Sure, many of the books of the New Testament were indeed written (as far as can be demonstrated) decades after Jesus death (Paul's letters, for example, are mostly dated to the 50s AD, so around 20 years post), but that's by no means problematic. Show me any extant copy of a document from antiquity that demonstrably does any better than a couple of decades from the source events.
@max2right ..And in terms of oral tradition (particularly for the gospels), passing on of material was well in the lifetime of eyewitnesses, and as the gospels and period literature make clear, people expected careful stewardship of oral teaching and history, not chaotic communal fiction making. That was just the nature of education at the time - rehearsal of oral and written texts, but in ways to enhance accuracy and recall.
If your opinion of this book is that Jesus speaks these words, you only have to find one point at which the words contradict each other to realise that "Jesus" is not being truthful. Does 800,000 equal 1,100,000? If so, then we are in more trouble than the rest of the bible tells us.
@amthatis07 3) ..then pray: Dear God, almighty, all-powerful, all-loving creator of the universe, we pray to you to cure every case of cancer on this planet tonight. We pray in faith, knowing you will bless us as you describe in Matthew 7:7, Matthew 17:20, Matthew 21:21, Mark 11:24, John 14:12-14, Matthew 18:19 and James 5:15-16. In Jesus' name we pray that you cure them all, Amen.
@StrumstickJoe.... Pr 15:29 The Lord is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous. ESV Jesus also said, :"You shall not tempt the Lord your God. "
"An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign."
"They have Moses and the prophets and The will not believe even though one rises form the dead"
In that passage he also says to forgive and believe ..are you bitter? God can not hear the prayer of someone who is full of bitterness
@RecoveringPharisee I wasn't praying ole son! Prayer is answered only according to coincidence; I was suggesting that a few of you faithful people pray. "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours." ...is a totally unambiguous statement - so go for it!
And those people deserved that wrath of god, did they? What rot! Who created them, then?
I think bad temper is a very low & despicable emotion. (Very human, in fact!) Keep smilin.
@StrumstickJoe Remember this life is not it and one day there will be no more sickness...prayer answered. That does make me smile. Also, God temper is not bad its quite good. , God is angry with the wicked all day long, his wrath is not like ours but the Hollywood image of God portrayed is not correct.... Rom 1:18-25 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. I
@RecoveringPharisee I'm sorry - I meant to imply in my postings that I don't believe the bible. Therefore it is pointless to quote it at me. I realise that you have no other "proof" of your beliefs.
This life is it; there is no other place.
If god is angry with his wicked creations, then he is displaying base human anger at things he created! (?) Why does that make sense to you? If he knows everything, then he must know he screwed up badly!
@StrumstickJoe Oh I knew you did not believe in the bible. There are many things including. Medicine, science, archeology and history that endorse the scriptures. But if you do not accept the proof of documentary witness, eyewitness testimony and personal experience...what proof can be convincing? However as Dietrich Bonhoeffer said, "A god who let us prove his existence would be an idol." Describing the sunset to a man born blind, no matter how much evidence will still take faith.
@RecoveringPharisee ..."There are many things including. Medicine, science, archeology and history that endorse the scriptures...."
No, there aren't.
Your statement is one of deliberate untruth or complete delusion.
The bible was written by people with no knowledge of tectonics, bacteria, astronomy, meteorology and all the rest; ancient people searching for some explanation of what they couldn't understand, and they came to the conclusion that it must be magic. Primitive!
@StrumstickJoe Ok you have to be kidding. If you think people in the bible or in ancient history knew nothing of these {though I will grant that they knew nothing of the terminology} you are mistaken or pulling my leg. A thorough study of Leviticus will clear up an understanding of Microbiology it covers everything leaven, fevers, fungus. mildew. If you think the bible says nothing about Astrology or astronomy or the topics you mentioned you are also mistaken. Thanks for the laugh.
You are deluded if you follow the belief that discoveries made in the last 200 years are all in the bible or the koran (yes - your delusions are mirrored by the equally ignorant muslims)
The scribes thought the earth was flat, they thought the earth was the centre, they thought it was all created for the benefit and testing of "man".
You still think that. Your problem.
Unfortunately your ignorance demeans the human race.
@StrumstickJoe Have you read the bible? Isa 40:22 It is he who sits above the circle of the earth" Bible said Hebrew world for circle "Sphere" the pop science of the day said the world was flat not the bible. Job 9:8-9 who alone stretched out the heavens and trampled the waves of the sea; who made the Bear and Orion, the Pleiades and the chambers of the south." So where do you get your info?. Read something besides atheistic views.. Open you mind, release your hurt.. God loves you!
If you quote the bible to me, then obviously, it is futile - if I quote it, then I should take a look at what I'm doing, because I am pointing out the contradictions and the racism and the incitements to murder.
Try praying, as I suggested 4 days ago. Despite the promises in the bible - and in accordance with common sense - it doesn't work. Try it - come back to me on that if you want to come back at all. Peace.
@RecoveringPharisee I know I shouldn't, but I never cease to be amazed how whenever a new scientific discovery is made, some religious person immediately claims that their ancient holy book predicted it and quote the convoluted spurious interpretation of some highly vague phrase from their book as proof.
I only ask one question.
If it was true, how come this revelation always comes after the scientific discovery has been made?
But forcing prophesies to fit the facts is the norm with religion.
Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray… In such cases…you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock. Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it. Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the LORD your God.
@StrumstickJoe lets not be so naive as if the inhabitants were innocent..if you study history the Cannanites were the most wicked people on earth..they sacrificed their own children in the fires of Molech..the disease was in man and beat because they were have sex with children and animals..the disease would. have spread over the earth had not God cleansed the land. His judgment on a few was mercy for many. There evil had not destroyed them before God did.
The emotions one feels are not a confirmation of the truthfulness of any book or historical document (like the Bible), in order for one to discover the truth (if it is in any holy book such as the Bible), they cannot accept something w/ their heart they are not ready to accept w/ their mind, but on the other hand, it would not be life-changing if they only accept in their mind 'the Bible is true' but it did nothing to change the heart also. Anyways, maybe this makes sense =) Peace
@Drooblemeister I'm just paraphrasing what Piper said, that's all. He said it in a way that seems more "convincing" but I really don't see any difference.
There is a good lecture on the formation of the the canon on the Yale University YouTube channel by Dale B. Martin. Its under the New Testament studies playlist Lecture two 'From stories to canon'.
Matt18:15.Talks about pre-xistant church."...If thy brother shall trespass against thee.....tell it to the CHURCH,but if he neglect to hear the CHURCH, let him be unto thee an heathen..."
Matt5;3."Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kindom of heaven."was also a principle of the ancient Eygptian Theraputae, and as such was known and taught for ages b4 the time assigned to the 1st publication of the gospel.
Theraputae had many CHURCHES and followers in ancient Eygpt, Rome, Greece.
3John9.10."I wrote unto the Church, but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the pre-eminence among them, recieveth us not.Werefore,if I come,I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words, and not content therewith, neither doth he recieve the 'frairs', and not content therewith, forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church."
John is here trying to put another scripture into an already xisting church system, which is not acepted by the church leader.
John the Baptist was Jesus cousin. They would most probly have known each other b4 the baptismal story.Matt3.13. Posible even played together as children, if Jesus was areal person.Mary, the Blessed Virgin,Mother of the Lord and Saviour of the human race, Jesus Christ, goes to see her cousin Elizabeth, who is pregnant with John.Luke1.39-45. "Blessed art thou among women, and Blessed is the fruit of your womb"
.Where is the Blessed Virgin Mary now? Surely in heaven with Jesus and his Father?
Gospel according to Luke.1.1-4. Were the writer admits to having recieved the info that he writes about from previous scriptures.read it carefuly."1. For as much as many have taken a hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are surely believed among us.2. Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word."
Delivered, meaning passed on. whoever passed on the info claim to be witnesses. The writer was not. He recieved.
@GW Luke was a phsycian (meticulous & educated,) whose priimary sources were the 12 apostles themselves who delivered facts about Jesus' life & teaching, both orally by means of written documents made available to him. He made no pretense of being an eyewitness himself, but explains in verse 3 (which you left out,) he "investigated everything carefully." He had 2 years to meet with them as well as other eyewitnesses. He was also a close friend of Paul.
@Passiflora101 Luke, whose primary sources are unknown, admits to having 'investigated everything carefuly'.He makes no pretense at being a witness. He says that 'many have taken a hand in setting out the things in which we believe'.And.' delivered them to us'.He does not say that those earlier writers are the 12 apostles. We do not have the 'earlier' scripts that he speaks of.We cannot know then who wrote these scripts.
Which scripts by what writers did he 'investigate'?
@Passiflora101 Luke the Theraputea, or Healer.Perhaps from that ancient school of the Theraputea at Alexandria,Eygpt. Which I am of the opinion is the real root of Christianity. Those 'many who have taken a hand to set forth in order a declaration of things believed', where probly his teachers, at the then world famous College of Religeous and Medicial Education. The 2 went together.
@GW Lecky. Oh yes, that's your video. Like he actually "gets" the Bible. Rationalists have decided that the mind of man is the standard which everything should be measured against. Such "intellectualism" is the product of the 18th century Rationalism, i.e. miracles can't be true because they don't seem reasonable or logical. Does FALLIBLE man's reason usurp an INFALLIBLE God? Only in your fallible mind.
@GW The printing press was only around in the time of Martin Luther, & now finally there's a way to get Bibles in the hands of people. But according to an analysis of the time, they had a Bible personally but had very little interest in what it contained. The legacy of rationalism, along w/ sacramentalism was a lack of confidence in the Bible which was now available but treated with shallowness & indifference, a lack of depth, a lack of zeal. Just another epoch, but the faith survived.
@Passiflora101 Martin Luther did not have faith in the established religeon of his day. He was a man who thought for himself. He is 1 of the reasons that Christianity has disintegrated into so many cults and sects.
He helped to disarm Christianity. When it was 1 faith it was strong and intolerent. And just look at what a mess it produced. The pain inflicted, blood spilled, in the name of the Lord and Saviour of the human race,Jesus Christ.
The disintegration continues. Long live Free Thought.
@GW Luther had 95 good reasons to protest the Catholic church. But I think he still clung to Roman doctrine in some matters, such as infant baptism. With regards to the Protestant denoms, there are essential doctrines upon which Bible-believing Christians must agree & non-essential doctrines, such as eschatolgy, that have no bearing on the Gospel itself or the Triune God. Jesus said the gate is narrow & few will find it, so I don't expect the true flock to be large. Tares among the wheat.
Tell me....what is all this blood spilled in the name of Christ that you speak of? Do you speak of the millions of martyrs that have been persecuted to death by holding fast to their faith in Christ?
May I ask you...do you have such strong convictions that you are willing to die for what you believe?
@GW Did you know that neuroscience has discovered that males are primarily left-brained thinkers & females are primarily right-brained? On the left side is the logic centers; on the right is spirituality, actually confirming Romans 1:18-19. Men have 25% less neurotransmitters between the two hemispheres than women. Virtually every unbeliever I've talked with has been male. Rationalizing may be your problem.
But you never answered my question....do you pray to Buddha?
@Passiflora101 In answer to your question, I do not pray. That was irony, sort of.
I had noticed that there are usually more female than male worshippers in congregations of churches that I have attended. Not sure why that is the case, just thought perhaps females are more superstitious than males.
Mostly elderly females.pos because they tend to outlive the males by 6 yrs or so.Who knows?
Rationalizing must surely be what the Creator wants me to do?Understand as much as is possible. No faith
@GW Yeah, I knew the praying thing was a fake. Had to ask you twice to get an answer. The imbalanced ratio of males to females has nothing to do with supersition, but everything to do with bad preaching. Christ warned many false teachers would "appear from within." The only way to spot a wolf is to become a Berean.
St Augustine. Much qouted early Christian theologian."What should be done with the non-believer?" said "Neither let those who refuse to obey their bishops and priests think within themselves that they are in the way of life and of salvation.
For the Lord God says in Duet,"Whoever will act presumptuously, and will not hear the priest or the judge, whoever he may be in those days,he shaldie, and the people will hear and fear, and dono more presumptuously."
@GR Regarding Augustine...all I can say is, "and then came Protestantism."
The Roman Catholic Church is the great whore of Revelation. It is a works-based salvation, as is every other major religion in the world. My works are like filthy rags.
I alway find it interesting that the unbeliever goes after the OT more than the NT. Praise God Jesus came along and rebuked the legalists Pharisees.
@Passiflora101 Christianity has 2 roots. The OT and Paganism. The God of the OT is an intolerent God who hates people who do not worship Him. Ex34:14.Paul, the former persecuting Pharisee, ditches this God and adopts the Pagan Idea that God had sent down His Son to teach mankind to live right. Is the Son just like His Father? If I don't have 'faith' in the Father, why should I havefaith in the Son?
In fact, what is required here is 'faith' in Pauls vision, the man who rote the NT.A persecuting Jew.
@GW "two roots" & a "God who hates people"..."pagan....blah, blah, blah..."
You are boring me with the same tired arguments.
Paul didn't write the entire NT, only abou half of it. He ditched the legalistic & hypcritical false teachings of Judaism, not God & was transformed by Christ (God in the flesh,) on the road to Damascus.
thanx for the info. Bit long but looks interesting. You seem to imply that I am trying to stop the xpansion of Christianity. I am actualy trying to stop the belief in the God of the ancient Isrealites, which has no more basis for belief than does the Great God Zeus, who brought order to Chaos, or so thought those who had 'faith' in Him.
I will read thru the info you sent and see if I am enlightened further.
@GARYWERSLEY Oh, come on & stop deluding everyone. If you are trying to stop the belief in the God of the ancient Isrealites, (the Jews) you are also trying to stop Christianity as an extension of Judaism. But guess what? You can't.
"So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it." Isa 55:11 "...I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Matt 20:28
@Passiflora101 The unfortunate Fact is that belief in the God of the ancient Isrealites seems to produce fanatical behaviour. We know this to be true by looking at history. We know it by reading the bible. We know it by looking at Islam today. All the 'faiths' that have come out of the worship of this God have, at some point in time been persecuting religeons.Their Holy Scriptures recomend it. It is Holy Writ.
We can see now Islam 'faithfuly' behaving with intolerence to those who do not believe.
@GW Judaism is still waiting for the Messiah, even though there are over 300 prophesies in their holy books pointing to Jesus, so they don't have the same God as Christians. Neither do Muslims, who deny the Triune God of the Bible - as found in both OT & NT. Judaism has always been persecuted, but most Christians believe that God never broke His Covenant with them, which is why America has always sided with Israel. Little is left of the original Quran. Muslims have truly been deluded.
@Passiflora101 Judaism Christianity and Islam all claim to worship the same intolerent God of the ancient Isrealites. The God of Moses.Whose name is JEALOUS.Ex34.14.Belief in this Jealous God produces fanatical believers who reflect the jealousy of their beliefs in their intolerent behaviour.Regardless of which prophet or branch of belief you believe in. Intolerence is inherent in the belief.
Jews, Christians, and Muslims have truly been deluded.
@GARYWERSLEY "Judaism Christianity & Islam all claim to worship the same intolerent God of the ancient Isrealites. The God of Moses.Whose name is JEALOUS." No we don't & I have explained to you about His 'jealousy' but you can't seem to get it. You hate the fact that you belong to a possessive God who hates sin & you want to be right in your own eyes. God may have already given you over to your sin & reprobation. He only gives the gift of salvation (grace) to the humble & resists the proud.
@GW "We can see now Islam 'faithfuly' behaving with intolerence to those who do not believe."
Correct. Allah is a god of hate. There are no teachings on love in the Quran, but teach death to the infidels. Jesus said love your emenies. We are "tolerant" of other religions, but exclusive. We understand that there is no other name under heaven by which men can be saved - Acts 4:12 Did you watch the videos I mentioned - "Revealing the Truth about Islam - Part 1" & 2?
@GARYWERSLEY My Pm is a "bit too long" for you? Then how is it that I'm supposed to believe you read the Bible & other books?
The Greeks were into mythical Gods such as Zeus. Guess what Paul said to them? "For while I was passing through and examining the objects of your worship, I also found an altar with this inscription, 'TO AN UNKNOWN GOD.' Therefore what you worship in ignorance, this I proclaim to you..." then gave them the truth - the Gospel. Read Acts 17:22-31
@GARYWERSLEY May I ask you...what or who is your moral plumbline - your measiring stick? Do you have one or do you, yourself gauge what is moral and what is not?
@GARYWERSLEY Yes - YouTube is a place where one can be "blown about by every wind of doctrine" known to man & where "opinion" is stated as "fact," though not fact at all. People are more interested in espousing opinion than fact & grabbing their 15 minutes of fame on a world stage, regardless of whether or not they are deceived & deceiving others. It's a dangerous place for the naive as well as new born again Christians, who haven't heard the entire Word yet, but have been saved by God.
@Passiflora101 You remind me of the Pope's comment about the invention of the printing press.
Calling it an invention of the Devil. It did help bring about the Reformation though. Which is what helped to bring about religeous freedom. Freedom to believe in your own understanding of the bible.Youtube is a part of the evolution of all religeons, not just Christianity.Freedom to come to your own understanding and speak freely about it with others.
@GW The Pope still desires to maintain ultimate authority as the "Vicar of Christ" - comes from the word "vicarious." If people were not allowed to read the Bible they couldn't not know if what they were being told was true. Religious freedom is something else altogether. The paradox of the Christian is that as a "slave" to Christ, I am free. You, on the other hand, are a slave of sin that will eventually drag you down. "Free to be you" means that you are your own god - Moral Relativism.
@GARYWERSLEY May I ask you....whereor who is your moral plumbline - your measuring stick? Do you have one or do you, yourself gauge what is moral & what is not?
The God of the ancient Isrealites isa Jealous God.He hates non-believers.This is why Christianity has such a bloody history and why Islamic fundamentalists behave as they do.They all worship the same Jealous God,whose name,He tells us,is Jealous.Exodus 34:14.He tells the believer to destroy places of worship of those who do not worship Him.Followersof this God have been doing that and killing non-believers since Moses time.
This is not a God of Love and Peace. This is a God of War.
@GARYWERSLEY "The JEALOUS GOD." How do you define 'jealous?' Envious or possessive?
If a man were flirting with your wife, would you not be jealous? Doesn't she belong to you? If you were the Creator, does not everything you made belong to you? Yep. He's a jealous God, in the sense of possessiveness - not envy. He also has the right to destroy anything He created.
God hates the SIN of non-belief. You have a duty to Him to learn of the truth. Read the Bible & find out the truth.
@GARYWERSLEY Watch "Revealing the Truth about Islam - Part 1" & Part 2 & learn the truth about Islam from a guy who speaks their language, having grown up in Egypt. The Muslims invaded Christian land & the Crusades retaliated; thousands on both sides were killed. Some Crusaders were not even Christian nor born again Christians. Stalin, Pot Pol, Mao - all unbelievers of the Christian God killed millions & millions. Even Hitler killed Jews based on Arianism, not Christianity.
@GARYWERSLEY I am going to send you a rather long PM debunking both the Zeitgeist Movie and the Da Vinci Code. The answers are much too long to post in these limited open forum threads. Bear in mind that people have been trying to debunk Jesus ever since He first appeared. What you're doing is nothing new. You are the fool the Bible talks about - the one who says there is no God. Dead in our sin, we're all born sinful & no one seeks after God. Most are still in rebellion, refusing truth.
@Passiflora101 The Da Vinci Code is a work of fiction, not unlike the bible.
I have no idea what the Zietgiest Movie is about, though I have heard its mention a few times in comments.
I am not much interested in either. I do read the bible and also other books.
I asked my self the question, years ago, 'How can believersof a so called God of Love have such a terrible history?' I have been reading up on the subject looking for the answer and so far have come to that one verse, Exodus 20:5.
@GWERSLEY Satan is the father of all lies, & I don't believe it when you say you don't know what the Zeitgeist Movie isabout for it is based on the similar nonsense as the Da Vinci Code & the paganism which you constantly use to refute the Bible. Athiests like you cherry-pick the Bible targeting texts they don't understand. You do not know God "in His Holiness," who is not only loving, but just. Would a just judge set free a criminal? No. Would a father not discipline his child? No.
@Passiflora101 I do not know what Zietgiest is.I have not read Da Vinci Code. Waste of time.I do not believe in the God of the bible, but I do read it, daily, in my search for Truth.
If one is forced to believe something then there is no Truth in it .Deut 21:21.
@GW Deut 21:21 is about what we would today call capital punishment. The longterm pattern of rebellion & sin in someone who was incorrigably disobedient to the Mosaic Law was put to death. in this case it was disobedience to parents (one of the "Big 10,") gluttony & drunkeness. But the Jews had thousands of laws on their books, which is why the Christian refers to them as Legalists. Even today, Jews are wracked with guilt for not obeying all their laws, many of which were/are ridiculous.
@Passiflora101 The problem with religeons that practice capital punishment. The death penalty is xtended to cover more 'crimes',such as non-belief,as can be seen by the number of people put to death in Islamic states for not being religeous enough.I see all such deaths as being human sacrifice to the God whose name is Jealous.Just as was the supposed death of Jesus. The God of the bible requires blood tobe spilt.
There is no Love with such a God Such a religeon. There is only Theological Tyranny.
@GW You continue to group "religions" together as if we worship the same God. Yes, Muslims do kill their own, but Chistians don't, nor do Jews. Some of them are still secretly into the animal sacrifice thing though. I have explained Islam's cherry-picking vs. Christ's fulfillment, yet you continue to rant on with the same tiring arguments.
You wouldn't have a problem with the death penalty for the brute who tortured, raped & carved up your mother.& served her on a plate to you.
@GARYWERSLEY A good & loving God would have to be a just judge & a moral Lawgiver. You just hate His sentence. He has no good reason to save any of us. We've been evil since our youth. No one teaches a 2 y/o to pitch at temper tantrum nor a 3 y/o to lie. It is sin that destroys the lives of people. He should throw the book at us, but instead He comes down from the bench, takes off His Judge's robe, & like any loving father, pays our fine. He paid our way out of the slave market to sin.
@GARYWERSLEY Exodus 20:5 is part of the 10 Commandments & this text about God as a jealous God I have already explained to you earlier.
But "terrible history?" See....here you do not understand that there are various divisions of the Bible, books of law, books of history, books of prophets, etc. The OT is recorded history of the Jews, both good & bad, & the NT is how they & all others are to be reconciled to God through Christ. Further, secular history is even worse.
@Passiflora101 what is the difference between command and demand. Not much if any. What is the difference between a God of Love and and a God of Jealousy.(Mood Swings.)
Secular history is not always something to be proud of admittedly. But the bloody History of the believers in this God must be recognized for what it is.It is a history of Divinely Inspired Violent Intolerence, authorized by Holy Scripture. And it still continues to this day. In1 form or another.
@GW "what is the difference between command and demand. Not much if any. What is the difference between a God of Love and and a God of Jealousy.(Mood Swings.)" Once again....your simple-minded opinion.
If you think it's bad now, hang on, it will get worse because that's what's prophesied. Keep your eye on the Middle East. My interest lies in eternity, not this life, which is but a vapor.
"God save us from the deluded." Are you praying to Buddha?
@GARYWERSLEY Revelation is not the only book that speaks of End Times. One of the OT books has much to say on it. Jesus Himself told His disciples what to expect. Saying you don't believe in prophecy shows a lack of Bibical & historical study on your part, since much of the prophecy has already been fulfilled. Example...In 1948 Israel finally became a nation & Jews flocked back to their native land in droves. God had previously scattered them...both were prophecy fulfiilled.
@GW The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, But a wise man is he who listens to counsel. Pr 12:15
Every man's way is right in his own eyes, But the LORD weighs the hearts. Pr 21:2
Self-serving pride was Lucifer's sin. It is the root of every other sin. He wanted to exalt himself above God, so God cast him out of heaven & he's now known as the 'prince of this world," Satan. No shortage of evil in this world. Ever wonder why so many movies have the good vs. evil theme?
@Passiflora101 When qouting psalms and proverbs 1 can never be sure which religeon is being qouted. Psalms/provbs probly Ancient Eygptian. As was the idea of the wieghing of the heart of the dead. After mumification the heart was placed in a jar. to be wieghed by the Lord of the underworld, Osiris. Who was 1 of those dying reviving Gods of ancient Eygpt. It was thought that the heart was where the soul resided. The origin of the idea of an after life was almost certainly Pagan Eygptian.
@GW *sigh* Even after I sent you a lengthy PM regarding Greek mythology, you're still digging through the ashes of a burned out argument. Do you happen to know when Aristotle, Plato & Socrates lived?
@Passiflora101 When I mentioned history I was speaking about the history of the Christians.
The Crusades. The Holy Inquisition,(which actualy lasted 400 yrs, before being closed in about 1834.)Witch burnings. All done in the name of the Saviourof the world, Jesus Christ.Theollgical Tyranny, authorized by the Holy Bible.
There is also plenty of bloodshed in the OT, which some people see as a history of the Jews.
The 1st miracle of Jesus changing water into wine. An attempt to attract followers of the son of God Baachus. At the same time showing that Jesus took notice of wht his Mother said. Thus giving a female edge to the new faith so tht xpectant mothers could pray to her to help in childbirth. She was also in heaven with Jesus and his Father, Almighty God.This is were the veneration of the Blessed Virgin Mary came from. Paganism. As with most things Christian, she never actualy xisted.
John 1. 'In the beginning was the Word and the Word was...' The origin of this text is Pagan, rote about 250BC. It originaly was a part of the Platonic philosophy applicable to the Logos. or Mercury, the Word.It tells of the Sonof God named Mercury coming 2 earth 2 show humans how to be civilised. He performed many wonderous things, curing blind sickness xpelling demons. After his death Mercury was diefied Back in paradise with his heavenly Father.
The 1st written OT that we know of was wrote about 400BC.In the British Museum in London there is an ancient Eygptian scroll that is known as 'The Teachings of Amen-em-ope'.It was rote about 1580BC.Title 'How to live'. It contains most of the psalms and proverbs now found in the bible.
The length of the papyrus is12ft and it is10inches wide. The text is set in 27 columns and is a copy made by a scribe named Senu. The age of the original is unknown.
The story of Jesus is probly a mixture of various pagan Son of God stories.Jesus brought nothing new to mankind that pagans did not already believe in,xcept that he was the son of the Jewish God JHVH.This is why Paul was called a babbler by the philoshophers.Acts 17:18. They had heard the same story but other versions before and did not believe in them either.Same story, different Diety.
The God JHVH was a Jealous God who hated non-belief more than anything else.
@GARYWERSLEY ROFLLLLLl your such a great fanatic subborn. Man your a blind babbler. Show us some evidence how Jesus has copied anything from others. Only fanatic pagans like you accused and laughed at the msg of gospel it was nothing new. also care to show which previous pagan deity was as Jeleous as Yahwh :) If your not ashamed of being wrong why dont you admit the falsehood you believe?Psalms egyptian? plz give evidence man,you have blind (wrong)faith alot.
There really is no historical evidence for the existence of the Jesus of the bible.
Born of a virgin. No evidence. Changed water into wine. Pointless miracle that never happened. healed the sick, made the blind see, raised lazarus from the dead. No evidence. Died on the cross, rose again on the third day. No evidence. Never happened.
Angel Gabriel visits Muhamed. No evidence. Never happened.
Angel Moroni visits Joseph Smith. Never happened.
All these beliefs reqiure Faith. which is Delusion.
@GARYWERSLEY To say there is no evidence of Jesus is just ignorant. Please do research before you make dumb comments. If you don't believe in Jesus go somewhere else. But you know Jesus is God, but your here trying to convice yourself that he is not. I don't know why Atheists are always on religous videos. I am not always watching unicorn videos or harrassing people who believe in santa.
@HeavenBound2323. The stories that you read in the bible are scripts from an ancient mystery play. There is no firm historical evidence for the xistence of the Jesus of the bible. There is mention, vaguely, about some sort of revolutionary figure perhaps xisting about the time ascribed to Jesus, but it does not confirm the xistence of the Jesus of the bible.Who was born of a Virgin, did many wonderous things, died and rose again on the third day. That Jesus is Mythology.
@HeavenBound2323 People who believe in Santa are usually pretty harmless.
Belief in the God of the ancient Isrealites has proved so many times to be harmful to the human race.
Everyone knows there are no such things as unicorns. But if anybody did believe in them I'm sure they would be pretty harmless too. We can't say that about those people of 'Faith' in that ancient Jealous God of the Jews.
@GARYWERSLEY For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1 Corinthians 1:18
Another completely deluded, credulous fanatic. No objectivity here, or critical thinking, just emotion, bias, extremism and that typical vapid expression--all signs of psychological damage caused by this bronze age cult.
Ok. How can you believe a document that was written by Bronze age superstitious people whose level of education would not even be considered up to Junior high school standard today.
As for The story of christ. That has been lifted almost completely from the ancient Egyptian Myth of The god Horus, whose father and mother were Osirus and Isis. C. 3000 BCE until C. 400CE.
Even the parables were taken almost verbatum from the works the Essenes, written long before the supposed birth of christ.
@HonestMan395 really? your saying Romans,Gauls,Dacian, Greeks, Egyptains, Jewish, persian culture and people were stupid? the very grounding of lanquage that you speak is because of these countries.
its not a Egyptain myth, it was a prophecy that had to be fullfilled in the old testament and did in the New testament, word for word, what he was trying to get is this book waveing message all ties into one because its gods word.
@MegaVenom777 No, I did not say that the ancients were stupid. They were probably as intelligent as we are today. (I doubt if the human brain has evolved much in just 2,000 yrs)
However, intelligence without education would make the ignorant of the world around them when compared to the world knowledge of a modern day Junior high school student.
Even today, the most religious countries are predominantly the ones with the lowest standards of comprehensive education. cont.d......
@MegaVenom777 As for it not being an Egyptian myth. I could have chosen one of many "Gods" that fitted the Christ story.
Horus was just one. There is also Mithra of Persia, Attis of Phrygia, Krishna of India and dionysus of Greece. All of them had some, if not all of the following as part of their myth.
@HonestMan395 okay the 25 of dec is not christ birthday and not three kings just three charactors of god. their were twelve diciples but one betrayed him and dead, and once again he was baptized by john and the gates of heaven opened. also all pagan gods arent truly like jesus because they all sinned big time. i hardly belived that any of the pagan gods can form any mircales because they are man made unlike god.
@HonestMan395 What you describe there sounds much like the ancient Indian Son of God Chrishna.
Born of a virgin, evil tyrant king tries to kill him but he escapes. teaches while still a child, does many wonderous things, curing disease, blindness, raising the dead. Chrishna died & rises again after 3 days, ascends into heaven to sit at the right hand side of his father Almighty God. This probly also the first idea of a divine Trinity. There were other versions, much later in time.
@GARYWERSLEY I am an indian, Krishna wasnt born of virgin and almost all you said about him is utter lie. Just the same way pple manipulate the story of Mithra being related to Jesus. but Mithra too is far different in his story, I think u were trying to mention Mithra rather than krishna. Plz dont be so ignorant and have blind faith in whatever rubbish you see by pple, do some good research
@guitaristmichael CHRISHNA.The first ever Son of God story was about Chrishna. An ancient Hindu Sonof God,older than all other Sonof God stories. All other Sonof God stories are imitations of Chrishna, who was of divine origin, was threatened at birth by an evil tyrant, had to hide.As a child he did many wonderous things,(miracles) had many followers who had 'faith' in him. After death he went back to his heavenly father, and still even to this day he has many followers who have 'faith' in Him.
@GARYWERSLEY OMG you just repeated all you said. Letme remind you again, I am Indian, and its not Chrishna, you stubborn ignorant atheist fanatic. Its Krishna, and all you blabbered is utter lie. More false than the false invented lie Mythra. Cant you get that?. Any Indian would laugh at whatever you just said about Krishna. Have some shame :)
@guitaristmichael I do try to stick to the facts according to Brewers Myth and Legends and other books. I am not an athiest, nor a fanatic.I do not believe in the God of the ancient Isrealites, or Jesus. Psalm 14:1. Psalms probly of ancient Eygptian origin, not wrote by David. Older than Judaism.
Spelling is not important just so long as we know wht we mean.
I am not ashamed of being wrong, if I am wrong. To err is human, someone once said.
@HonestMan395 for one the Roman Cathlioc Church is not The church, and too yes the four gospels wrote about his life and had diffrant impute, but it all agreed on the main things of the gospel which you've writing.
@MegaVenom777 Thankyou, everything you've just said only goes to confirm what I said. The bible is just a collection of myths and legends.
Whether or not you conveniently believe that the Roman Cathlioc Church is not The church, is irrelevant, because even though protestant churches have tried to distance themselves, their basic bible is not dissimilar in any large way to the Catholic's bible. Cont'd......
@HonestMan395 i'm saying the body of christ is the church, and not one church is the true church, and no what i just said proves that Jesus is the living son of god. his holy spirit moves, read the book of acts. and the road to damascus, paul say the post jesus and jesus convidict him.
@GW Had Jospeh Smith not denied the Trinity & make other unbiblical claims, we may have considered him a true prophet, but there haven't been any since the close of canon. Mormonism is really more similar to Islam in many ways. What you fail to see is that the Bible is a supernatural set of 66 books written over a 1,500 yr. period by around 40 authors - a with one cohesive message - that of Christ as Savior of the World. Many false prophets have arose "preaching another gospel." Gal 1:8
@MegaVenom777 All the writings regarding christ are second or third hand written between 50 and 300 years after his supposed Death. The fact is that no-one living during christ's supposed life wrote anything about him is a bit suspicious. You would have thought that a man who supposedly healed the sick raised the dead, made the blind see, turned water into wine, (All Horus' miracles, by the way) and spoke to such multitudes, would have attracted some attention at the time, wouldn't you?
yes thats is true the copys we have date back 50 years, but the book of acts records the history of the early church, even though the early church didnt have a book it had the holy spirt that still moves and turns hearts to god, and all of jesus miracles did attracted alot of attention so much so the religious leaders killed him but he rosed again.
@MegaVenom777 Exactly my point. All that fuss caused and nobody during Christ's supposed lifetime wrote a single thing about it, but that's just the start.
Take the nativity for instance.
If Christ was born during the reign of Herod, as Luke and Matthew say, then he was born before 4BCE, the year Herod died.
Quirinius was not governor of Syria (Luke 2.2) until 6-7 CE.
The only census took place at that time (6/7 CE), but no-one had to travel to their ancestral city for that . cont'd.....
@MegaVenom777 If christ was born at all, he was born in Nazareth. The story was changed to fit the prophesy.
Now, lets take Herod.
When Herod found out that the 3 wise men had fooled him, he is supposed to have ordered the massacre of all the children under 2 years old. (Matthew 2. 16-18)
Although he did kill his own sons, their is no record of any such massacre. Yet again another attempt to massage the facts to prove a prophesy.
Don't just read the bible, read the history of the time.
@MegaVenom777 As for the miracles and the Parables. These can all be found in the writings of the essenes, a sect which was active long before The supposed birth of christ.
@MegaVenom777 All the writings about Jesus are basically scripts that where circulating at about the time that Paul was writing his letters. This is before any of the gospels where written. The gospels of Matt, Mark, Luke, copied from these scripts.John was much later. He copied an ancient pagan script about "The Word", which was in xistence at least 250BC. This xplains the similarities in the gospels. The actual writters are unknown. Date of writing later than Paul.
haha...I thought I was going to get some real reason to believe him. Not just because he feels it inside. I dont get that same feeling. of course I wasn't drilled with it since I was a baby either.
Oh? Does the bible fall under any of the following categories? 1. Certified copy of public or business records; 2. Official publications of government agencies; 3. Newspaper articles; 4. Trade inscriptions, such as labels on products; 5. Acknowledged documents (wherein the signer also gets a paper notarized); 6. Commercial paper under the Uniform Commercial Code.
If not, then it is NOT a self-authenticating document and it remains a circular argument.
@Notharah if Scripture had to be authenticated by other sources or authority, it would cease to be the Word of God, for that is an admission that there's is a higher authority above the Word of God. when we're dealing with ultimates, it has to be a circular argument. and of course, that, as Paul puts it beautifully in 1 Corinthians 1:21-25, is foolishness to the all who don't believe.
@jefflow1986 So you concede it's a circular argument then. That's a step :)
In any case it's trying to use the bible... as proof for the authenticity of god, and god as proof for the bible. Somewhere in that logic you have to 'step into the circle' as it were.
As for Paul, I seldom come across a less compelling bible author. In Corinthians he strikes me as the equivalent of modern-day people who scream: "science has done nothing for the world!" If you see what I mean.
@Notharah aye, the difficulty is that when it ceases to be a circular argument, the Bible ceases to be the Word of God. no one has the authority to authenticate the Bible except God Himself through the Holy Spirit.
i'm surprised that you felt that in about paul. In Romans, he has established the the whole world testifies of God and in Corinthians, he was beseeching them to hear him. his desire was for them to be reconciled to God through Christ crucified. and that's profound love. =)
ha ha ha. you poor misguided people. Christianity is a hybrid religion made up of ancient egytian religion and old pagan religion that follow the zodiac. Both used to worship God's SUN in the sky where as christianity replaced the SUN with god's SON and adjusted the stories. If you truely want to know about religion, you should study all religions, especially the ones before christianity and look for a pattern. Google "how many religions use 25 december" and click the first link.
First. Christianity is simply a continuation/fulfillment of Judaism and I think that both you and I would agree that Judaism came before Egyptian religions.
It is no secret that Judaism came after paganism which is also recorded in the Bible - God had to call Abraham OUT of paganism.
Third. I think it has already been established that the Catholic traditions, halos, 'sun'day worship, and the 25 of December was incorporated into the Christian religion to ease pagans into a style of gov't
@aveyowyns Christianity claims to be a continuation of Judaism just as Islam does. Christianity has 2 roots. Paganism and Judaism. Both can be seen within it. Christians of today try to distance themselves from their pagan roots and cling desparetley to Judaism. But the roots are there, for all to see.The main root is pagan.
Judaism rejected the stories of Jesus then and still does today. There is nowhere in Judaism that mentions that JHVH will send his Son to teach mankind how to be civilised.
I'm sorry, but you are not going to get away with listing off a bunch of 'truths' without proving them. What about Christianity is pagan (REALIZE; I asked about Christianity, NOT Catholicism).
"There is no where in Judaism that mentions that Jesus will send his son..."
You have to be playing thick on purpose - you HAVE to be, to claim something so stupid.
@aveyowyns The root of Christianity as we know it today is Roman Catholic. RC. Rome being the important word. Not Jerusalem. Which is the place where Christians would have liked their religeon to have started.
The idea of 'Son of God' saviours of the human race was totally pagan. Such an idea could never be acceptable to any Jew.The pagans had had other versions of Son of God Saviours. This one was different because it said that this was the Son of the God of the Jews. And He was a Jealous God.
No. The root of Christianity is not Catholicism...
It may sound pagan to you - but that's one of the proofs that support Christianity - Unless Jesus existed, then the concepts that go along with his existence would not have been accepted by the Jews - which it was... The fact that Jews denied Christ while he lived, and denied him because of Roman persecution is the reason why Judaism still exist.
@aveyowyns There was little Roman persecution of Christianity. Paul, one of the founders ofthe faith was a persecutor. persecution was recomended by St Augustine and many other later Christians. We know this because we have the history of this religeon tostudy. We should look at all religeons and see their behaviour and then look at their scriptures and find out what they say about 'Loving thy non-believing nieghbour'.
Let us not make the same mistakes again. Perhaps that is the purpose of History
"There was little Roman persecution of Christians" That's a lie.
Paul was a persecuter of Christians and then after he received revelation from Jesus Himself, he became a CHRISTIAN!
Judaism has NO biblical justification for living in the west, a place of Blasephemous Christians, and heathen humanists. Judaism has NO bilbical justification as to why they don't stone adulterers, homosexuals, and non-believers, so don't even give me that: perhaps that is the purpose of history crap
@aveyowyns The verses in Isaiah are not refering to Jesus. They refer to the political situation that Isreal was in then. Their captivity was Gods punishment on them for not being religeous enough. The faithful servant still has faith. Meaning, even though they are being punished, their faith in Gods Mercy stands firm.
Not actualy talking about Jesus. Isaiah did not have Jesus in mind. None of it is predicting Jesus. Ask any Jew, he'll tell you.
No. They refer to a Messiah - they refer to Jesus, they refer to one MAN and Isaiah gave SPECIFIC signs that this man would fulfil... so...
Sorry, but if a Jew has yet to realize that the whole purpose of Judaism/the Israelites was to bring about the Christ, they are the LAST people I'm going to ask about the truth of the Bible.
@djguttertrash mmm, that video is full of misconceptions - like most conspiracy theories, it is based on a twisting of the facts about those various religions.
@aveyowyns I'm sure he had time to tell us why the Bible is so trustworthy. He makes claims and kind of blathers on for the rest of the video. You're right though, suppose I expected too much.
@Machelle3200 No, "6" is NOT the Devil's number. 6 and 666 are two different numbers just as 1 and 111 are different, and 2 and 2222 are different. The Devil's number is "six hundred and sixty six," NOT "six." See the difference? Just because 666 has the number 6 appear in it, that doesn't mean that 6 or 66, or even 6666, are the same as it. It's not rocket science Machelle, show me in the Bible where it says that the number "SIX" is the Devil's number.
well if you are looking up info on why the bible is true, watch Voddie Bauchams videos.... but i like what piper points out... even though there are tons of reasons why scripture is true, and if you really understood the history of how scripture came together and has stood the test of time, and will outlast all the doubters, yes even the ones on this page.. its not enough to make you wanna die for it.. you need to be born again and see the beauty of christ in scripture. then youll really get it.
What? Do basically all the commenters here want apologetics? From John Piper? He does briefly mention historical proofs at the end, but his point is that at the individual level, trusting the Scriptures moves beyond looking at arguments of scholars and moving into a knowledge of God and a realization of the grace of Jesus Christ.
A good sermon but not accurate. Basically all he is saying is that if you belive it to be true it will be. He never gave any valid authentication of the 66 books of the Bible other than saying he and you do or will fee that tehy are true.
SharedViewsNews 2 months ago
You base your faith in the 66 books of the Bible on what the Bible says about Jesus Christ? Isnt that circular reasoning? What about the fact that most of the gospels...hell...all of the gospels were written by who really knows...from 40 to 100 years after Jesus supposedly died? What about the fact that not one shred of solid physical evidence of any miracle or person mentioned in the Bible even exists...with the exception of a few of the Hebrew O.T. kings? You have got to be kidding me?
victorseay 2 months ago

What a guy!
max2right 6 months ago
@max2right Sure, many of the books of the New Testament were indeed written (as far as can be demonstrated) decades after Jesus death (Paul's letters, for example, are mostly dated to the 50s AD, so around 20 years post), but that's by no means problematic. Show me any extant copy of a document from antiquity that demonstrably does any better than a couple of decades from the source events.
imjustsomeguy72 6 months ago
@max2right ..And in terms of oral tradition (particularly for the gospels), passing on of material was well in the lifetime of eyewitnesses, and as the gospels and period literature make clear, people expected careful stewardship of oral teaching and history, not chaotic communal fiction making. That was just the nature of education at the time - rehearsal of oral and written texts, but in ways to enhance accuracy and recall.

Great explanation!!...

He uses subjective experience which is caused by emotions to prove that the Bible is trustworthy?

We can trust the 72 books of the Bible to be more accurate about it.
RPenta 7 months ago
If your opinion of this book is that Jesus speaks these words, you only have to find one point at which the words contradict each other to realise that "Jesus" is not being truthful. Does 800,000 equal 1,100,000? If so, then we are in more trouble than the rest of the bible tells us.
BozoTheBear 7 months ago
There's a lot of vindictiveness in "this book".
I'm glad I don't believe it but I fear for those who do.
Their delusion is dangerous to the world.
Free yourself. Please.

@StrumstickJoe Hey man. Please share what it is that leads you to believe The Bible promotes vindictive behavior rather than love and grace.
It appears as though you're claiming the Bible to be false, on what grounds?
Thanks for sharing!

Let me know if it works.
StrumstickJoe 8 months ago
@StrumstickJoe.... Pr 15:29 The Lord is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous. ESV Jesus also said, :"You shall not tempt the Lord your God. "
"An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign."
"They have Moses and the prophets and The will not believe even though one rises form the dead"
In that passage he also says to forgive and believe ..are you bitter? God can not hear the prayer of someone who is full of bitterness
RecoveringPharisee 8 months ago
@RecoveringPharisee I wasn't praying ole son! Prayer is answered only according to coincidence; I was suggesting that a few of you faithful people pray. "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours." ...is a totally unambiguous statement - so go for it!
And those people deserved that wrath of god, did they? What rot! Who created them, then?
I think bad temper is a very low & despicable emotion. (Very human, in fact!) Keep smilin.
StrumstickJoe 8 months ago

Try to shed your burden and be free.

RecoveringPharisee 8 months ago
@RecoveringPharisee ..."There are many things including. Medicine, science, archeology and history that endorse the scriptures...."
No, there aren't.
Your statement is one of deliberate untruth or complete delusion.
The bible was written by people with no knowledge of tectonics, bacteria, astronomy, meteorology and all the rest; ancient people searching for some explanation of what they couldn't understand, and they came to the conclusion that it must be magic. Primitive!
Free yourself.
StrumstickJoe 8 months ago
@StrumstickJoe Ok you have to be kidding. If you think people in the bible or in ancient history knew nothing of these {though I will grant that they knew nothing of the terminology} you are mistaken or pulling my leg. A thorough study of Leviticus will clear up an understanding of Microbiology it covers everything leaven, fevers, fungus. mildew. If you think the bible says nothing about Astrology or astronomy or the topics you mentioned you are also mistaken. Thanks for the laugh.

@RecoveringPharisee Astrology!! Really?
Free yourself.
Good luck.

RecoveringPharisee 8 months ago
@RecoveringPharisee Thank you anyway, but I am really, truly, not hurting.
Peace.
StrumstickJoe 8 months ago
@RecoveringPharisee I know I shouldn't, but I never cease to be amazed how whenever a new scientific discovery is made, some religious person immediately claims that their ancient holy book predicted it and quote the convoluted spurious interpretation of some highly vague phrase from their book as proof.
I only ask one question.
If it was true, how come this revelation always comes after the scientific discovery has been made?
But forcing prophesies to fit the facts is the norm with religion.

@amthatis07 2) And yes – the bible is false alright – but don’t take my word – test it: Read:Mark 11:24:, the words of Jesus himself:
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours… Then pray…
StrumstickJoe 8 months ago
@amthatis07 1) Yes – the bible is vindictive alright:
Deuteronomy 13:13-19:
Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray… In such cases…you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock. Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it. Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the LORD your God.
StrumstickJoe 8 months ago
@StrumstickJoe lets not be so naive as if the inhabitants were innocent..if you study history the Cannanites were the most wicked people on earth..they sacrificed their own children in the fires of Molech..the disease was in man and beat because they were have sex with children and animals..the disease would. have spread over the earth had not God cleansed the land. His judgment on a few was mercy for many. There evil had not destroyed them before God did.

So, basically, we should believe the Bible is the Word of God because it says so, and because our emotions tell us.

Passiflora101 11 months ago
@Passiflora101 Luke, whose primary sources are unknown, admits to having 'investigated everything carefuly'.He makes no pretense at being a witness. He says that 'many have taken a hand in setting out the things in which we believe'.And.' delivered them to us'.He does not say that those earlier writers are the 12 apostles. We do not have the 'earlier' scripts that he speaks of.We cannot know then who wrote these scripts.
Which scripts by what writers did he 'investigate'?
Not his friend Pauls.

@Passiflora101 Luke the Theraputea, or Healer.Perhaps from that ancient school of the Theraputea at Alexandria,Eygpt. Qoute from the book, The Rise and Influence of Rationalism in Europe. Lecky vol1.page 19.
Cyprian ,Epis,book i ep 11
GARYWERSLEY 11 months ago
Passiflora101 11 months ago
@GW The printing press was only around in the time of Martin Luther, & now finally there's a way to get Bibles in the hands of people. But according to an analysis of the time, they had a Bible personally but had very little interest in what it contained. The legacy of rationalism, along w/ sacramentalism was a lack of confidence in the Bible which was now available but treated with shallowness & indifference, a lack of depth, a lack of zeal. Just another epoch, but the faith survived.
Passiflora101 11 months ago
@Passiflora101 Martin Luther did not have faith in the established religeon of his day. He was a man who thought for himself. He is 1 of the reasons that Christianity has disintegrated into so many cults and sects.
He helped to disarm Christianity. When it was 1 faith it was strong and intolerent. And just look at what a mess it produced. The pain inflicted, blood spilled, in the name of the Lord and Saviour of the human race,Jesus Christ.
The disintegration continues. Long live Free Thought.
GARYWERSLEY 11 months ago
@GW Luther had 95 good reasons to protest the Catholic church. But I think he still clung to Roman doctrine in some matters, such as infant baptism. With regards to the Protestant denoms, there are essential doctrines upon which Bible-believing Christians must agree & non-essential doctrines, such as eschatolgy, that have no bearing on the Gospel itself or the Triune God. Jesus said the gate is narrow & few will find it, so I don't expect the true flock to be large. Tares among the wheat.
Passiflora101 11 months ago
@GW RE: "Free Thought."
Very limited left-brained thinking.
Tell me....what is all this blood spilled in the name of Christ that you speak of? Do you speak of the millions of martyrs that have been persecuted to death by holding fast to their faith in Christ?
May I ask you...do you have such strong convictions that you are willing to die for what you believe?
Passiflora101 11 months ago
@Passiflora101 free thought. in the sense of being able to decide whether to worship or not.
GARYWERSLEY 11 months ago
@GW Did you know that neuroscience has discovered that males are primarily left-brained thinkers & females are primarily right-brained? On the left side is the logic centers; on the right is spirituality, actually confirming Romans 1:18-19. Men have 25% less neurotransmitters between the two hemispheres than women. Virtually every unbeliever I've talked with has been male. Rationalizing may be your problem.
But you never answered my question....do you pray to Buddha?
Passiflora101 11 months ago
@Passiflora101 In answer to your question, I do not pray. That was irony, sort of.
I had noticed that there are usually more female than male worshippers in congregations of churches that I have attended. Not sure why that is the case, just thought perhaps females are more superstitious than males.
Mostly elderly females.pos because they tend to outlive the males by 6 yrs or so.Who knows?
Rationalizing must surely be what the Creator wants me to do?Understand as much as is possible. No faith
GARYWERSLEY 11 months ago
@GW Yeah, I knew the praying thing was a fake. Had to ask you twice to get an answer. The imbalanced ratio of males to females has nothing to do with supersition, but everything to do with bad preaching. Christ warned many false teachers would "appear from within." The only way to spot a wolf is to become a Berean.
The Bible is rational for God is a just God.

Theological authrization for persecution.
GARYWERSLEY 11 months ago
@GR Regarding Augustine...all I can say is, "and then came Protestantism."
The Roman Catholic Church is the great whore of Revelation. It is a works-based salvation, as is every other major religion in the world. My works are like filthy rags.
I alway find it interesting that the unbeliever goes after the OT more than the NT. Praise God Jesus came along and rebuked the legalists Pharisees.
Passiflora101 11 months ago
@Passiflora101 Christianity has 2 roots. The OT and Paganism. The God of the OT is an intolerent God who hates people who do not worship Him. Ex34:14.Paul, the former persecuting Pharisee, ditches this God and adopts the Pagan Idea that God had sent down His Son to teach mankind to live right. Is the Son just like His Father? If I don't have 'faith' in the Father, why should I havefaith in the Son?
In fact, what is required here is 'faith' in Pauls vision, the man who rote the NT.A persecuting Jew.
GARYWERSLEY 11 months ago
@GW "two roots" & a "God who hates people"..."pagan....blah, blah, blah..."
You are boring me with the same tired arguments.
Paul didn't write the entire NT, only abou half of it. He ditched the legalistic & hypcritical false teachings of Judaism, not God & was transformed by Christ (God in the flesh,) on the road to Damascus.
Passiflora101 11 months ago
thanx for the info.
GARYWERSLEY 11 months ago
@GARYWERSLEY Oh, come on & stop deluding everyone. If you are trying to stop the belief in the God of the ancient Isrealites, (the Jews) you are also trying to stop Christianity as an extension of Judaism. But guess what? You can't.
"So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it." Isa 55:11 "...I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Matt 20:28
Passiflora101 11 months ago
@Passiflora101 The unfortunate Fact is that belief in the God of the ancient Isrealites seems to produce fanatical behaviour. We know this to be true by looking at history. We know it by reading the bible. We know it by looking at Islam today. All the 'faiths' that have come out of the worship of this God have, at some point in time been persecuting religeons.Their Holy Scriptures recomend it. It is Holy Writ.
We can see now Islam 'faithfuly' behaving with intolerence to those who do not believe.
GARYWERSLEY 11 months ago
@GW Judaism is still waiting for the Messiah, even though there are over 300 prophesies in their holy books pointing to Jesus, so they don't have the same God as Christians. Neither do Muslims, who deny the Triune God of the Bible - as found in both OT & NT. Judaism has always been persecuted, but most Christians believe that God never broke His Covenant with them, which is why America has always sided with Israel. Little is left of the original Quran. Muslims have truly been deluded.
Passiflora101 11 months ago
@Passiflora101 Judaism Christianity and Islam all claim to worship the same intolerent God of the ancient Isrealites. The God of Moses.Whose name is JEALOUS.Ex34.14.Belief in this Jealous God produces fanatical believers who reflect the jealousy of their beliefs in their intolerent behaviour.Regardless of which prophet or branch of belief you believe in. Intolerence is inherent in the belief.
Jews, Christians, and Muslims have truly been deluded.
Matt 7.3 Luke 6.41

Passiflora101 11 months ago
@Passiflora101 You remind me of the Pope's comment about the invention of the printing press.
Calling it an invention of the Devil. It did help bring about the Reformation though. Which is what helped to bring about religeous freedom. Freedom to believe in your own understanding of the bible.Youtube is a part of the evolution of all religeons, not just Christianity.Freedom to come to your own understanding and speak freely about it with others.
Perhaps Freedom to be Rational. Free to be You.
GARYWERSLEY 11 months ago
@GW The Pope still desires to maintain ultimate authority as the "Vicar of Christ" - comes from the word "vicarious." If people were not allowed to read the Bible they couldn't not know if what they were being told was true. Religious freedom is something else altogether. The paradox of the Christian is that as a "slave" to Christ, I am free. You, on the other hand, are a slave of sin that will eventually drag you down. "Free to be you" means that you are your own god - Moral Relativism.

Passiflora101 11 months ago

Passiflora101 11 months ago
@Passiflora101 The Da Vinci Code is a work of fiction, not unlike the bible.
I have no idea what the Zietgiest Movie is about, though I have heard its mention a few times in comments.
I am not much interested in either. I do read the bible and also other books.
I asked my self the question, years ago, 'How can believersof a so called God of Love have such a terrible history?' I have been reading up on the subject looking for the answer and so far have come to that one verse, Exodus 20:5.
GARYWERSLEY 11 months ago
@GWERSLEY Satan is the father of all lies, & I don't believe it when you say you don't know what the Zeitgeist Movie isabout for it is based on the similar nonsense as the Da Vinci Code & the paganism which you constantly use to refute the Bible. Athiests like you cherry-pick the Bible targeting texts they don't understand. You do not know God "in His Holiness," who is not only loving, but just. Would a just judge set free a criminal? No. Would a father not discipline his child? No.
Passiflora101 11 months ago
@Passiflora101 I do not know what Zietgiest is.I have not read Da Vinci Code. Waste of time.I do not believe in the God of the bible, but I do read it, daily, in my search for Truth.
If one is forced to believe something then there is no Truth in it .Deut 21:21.
GARYWERSLEY 11 months ago
@GW Deut 21:21 is about what we would today call capital punishment. The longterm pattern of rebellion & sin in someone who was incorrigably disobedient to the Mosaic Law was put to death. in this case it was disobedience to parents (one of the "Big 10,") gluttony & drunkeness. But the Jews had thousands of laws on their books, which is why the Christian refers to them as Legalists. Even today, Jews are wracked with guilt for not obeying all their laws, many of which were/are ridiculous.
Passiflora101 11 months ago
@Passiflora101 The problem with religeons that practice capital punishment. The death penalty is xtended to cover more 'crimes',such as non-belief,as can be seen by the number of people put to death in Islamic states for not being religeous enough.I see all such deaths as being human sacrifice to the God whose name is Jealous.Just as was the supposed death of Jesus. The God of the bible requires blood tobe spilt.
There is no Love with such a God Such a religeon. There is only Theological Tyranny.
GARYWERSLEY 11 months ago
@GW You continue to group "religions" together as if we worship the same God. Yes, Muslims do kill their own, but Chistians don't, nor do Jews. Some of them are still secretly into the animal sacrifice thing though. I have explained Islam's cherry-picking vs. Christ's fulfillment, yet you continue to rant on with the same tiring arguments.
You wouldn't have a problem with the death penalty for the brute who tortured, raped & carved up your mother.& served her on a plate to you.
Passiflora101 11 months ago

Passiflora101 11 months ago
@Passiflora101 what is the difference between command and demand. Not much if any. What is the difference between a God of Love and and a God of Jealousy.(Mood Swings.)
Secular history is not always something to be proud of admittedly. But the bloody History of the believers in this God must be recognized for what it is.It is a history of Divinely Inspired Violent Intolerence, authorized by Holy Scripture. And it still continues to this day. In1 form or another.
God save us from the deluded.

GARYWERSLEY 11 months ago
@GARYWERSLEY Revelation is not the only book that speaks of End Times. One of the OT books has much to say on it. Jesus Himself told His disciples what to expect. Saying you don't believe in prophecy shows a lack of Bibical & historical study on your part, since much of the prophecy has already been fulfilled. Example...In 1948 Israel finally became a nation & Jews flocked back to their native land in droves. God had previously scattered them...both were prophecy fulfiilled.

There is very little in the bible that is truly original.

HeavenBound2323 1 year ago
Another completely deluded, credulous fanatic. No objectivity here, or critical thinking, just emotion, bias, extremism and that typical vapid expression--all signs of psychological damage caused by this bronze age cult.
sweetsweatyfeet 1 year ago
HonestMan395 1 year ago
@HonestMan395 really? your saying Romans,Gauls,Dacian, Greeks, Egyptains, Jewish, persian culture and people were stupid? the very grounding of lanquage that you speak is because of these countries.
its not a Egyptain myth, it was a prophecy that had to be fullfilled in the old testament and did in the New testament, word for word, what he was trying to get is this book waveing message all ties into one because its gods word.
MegaVenom777 1 year ago
@MegaVenom777 No, I did not say that the ancients were stupid. They were probably as intelligent as we are today. (I doubt if the human brain has evolved much in just 2,000 yrs)
However, intelligence without education would make the ignorant of the world around them when compared to the world knowledge of a modern day Junior high school student.
Even today, the most religious countries are predominantly the ones with the lowest standards of comprehensive education. cont.d......
HonestMan395 1 year ago
@MegaVenom777 As for it not being an Egyptian myth. I could have chosen one of many "Gods" that fitted the Christ story.
Horus was just one. There is also Mithra of Persia, Attis of Phrygia, Krishna of India and dionysus of Greece. All of them had some, if not all of the following as part of their myth.
Born of a virgin on the 25th Dec.
Heralded by a star in the east.
Worshiped by 3 Kings.
Teacher at 12.
baptised/started ministry at 30.
12 disciples.
Performed miracles.
Continued....
HonestMan395 1 year ago
@HonestMan395 okay the 25 of dec is not christ birthday and not three kings just three charactors of god. their were twelve diciples but one betrayed him and dead, and once again he was baptized by john and the gates of heaven opened. also all pagan gods arent truly like jesus because they all sinned big time. i hardly belived that any of the pagan gods can form any mircales because they are man made unlike god.
MegaVenom777 1 year ago
@HonestMan395 What you describe there sounds much like the ancient Indian Son of God Chrishna.
Born of a virgin, evil tyrant king tries to kill him but he escapes. teaches while still a child, does many wonderous things, curing disease, blindness, raising the dead. Chrishna died & rises again after 3 days, ascends into heaven to sit at the right hand side of his father Almighty God. This probly also the first idea of a divine Trinity. There were other versions, much later in time.
GARYWERSLEY 1 year ago
@GARYWERSLEY I am an indian, Krishna wasnt born of virgin and almost all you said about him is utter lie. Just the same way pple manipulate the story of Mithra being related to Jesus. but Mithra too is far different in his story, I think u were trying to mention Mithra rather than krishna. Plz dont be so ignorant and have blind faith in whatever rubbish you see by pple, do some good research
guitaristmichael 11 months ago
@guitaristmichael CHRISHNA.The first ever Son of God story was about Chrishna. An ancient Hindu Sonof God,older than all other Sonof God stories. All other Sonof God stories are imitations of Chrishna, who was of divine origin, was threatened at birth by an evil tyrant, had to hide.As a child he did many wonderous things,(miracles) had many followers who had 'faith' in him. After death he went back to his heavenly father, and still even to this day he has many followers who have 'faith' in Him.
GARYWERSLEY 11 months ago
@GARYWERSLEY OMG you just repeated all you said. Letme remind you again, I am Indian, and its not Chrishna, you stubborn ignorant atheist fanatic. Its Krishna, and all you blabbered is utter lie. More false than the false invented lie Mythra. Cant you get that?. Any Indian would laugh at whatever you just said about Krishna. Have some shame :)
guitaristmichael 11 months ago
@guitaristmichael I do try to stick to the facts according to Brewers Myth and Legends and other books. I am not an athiest, nor a fanatic.I do not believe in the God of the ancient Isrealites, or Jesus. Psalm 14:1. Psalms probly of ancient Eygptian origin, not wrote by David. Older than Judaism.
Spelling is not important just so long as we know wht we mean.
I am not ashamed of being wrong, if I am wrong. To err is human, someone once said.
GARYWERSLEY 11 months ago
@MegaVenom777 cont'd.
Called The lamb of god, King of kings, The truth/the light.
crucified.
Resurrected after three days.
Their are many others apart from these.
There are no writings about christ written in his own lifetime other than the bible.
Even the gospels contradict each other and even the Church doesn't believe it.
Quote from Pope Leo X.
"It has served us well, this myth of christ."
HonestMan395 1 year ago
@HonestMan395 for one the Roman Cathlioc Church is not The church, and too yes the four gospels wrote about his life and had diffrant impute, but it all agreed on the main things of the gospel which you've writing.
MegaVenom777 1 year ago
@MegaVenom777 Thankyou, everything you've just said only goes to confirm what I said. The bible is just a collection of myths and legends.
Whether or not you conveniently believe that the Roman Cathlioc Church is not The church, is irrelevant, because even though protestant churches have tried to distance themselves, their basic bible is not dissimilar in any large way to the Catholic's bible. Cont'd......
HonestMan395 1 year ago
@HonestMan395 i'm saying the body of christ is the church, and not one church is the true church, and no what i just said proves that Jesus is the living son of god. his holy spirit moves, read the book of acts. and the road to damascus, paul say the post jesus and jesus convidict him.
MegaVenom777 1 year ago
@MegaVenom777 Why should people believe in Pauls vision on the road to Damascas and not believe in the visions of the prophet Joseph Smith?
Visions are impossible to prove. They have to be taken on faith.
GARYWERSLEY 11 months ago
@GW Had Jospeh Smith not denied the Trinity & make other unbiblical claims, we may have considered him a true prophet, but there haven't been any since the close of canon. Mormonism is really more similar to Islam in many ways. What you fail to see is that the Bible is a supernatural set of 66 books written over a 1,500 yr. period by around 40 authors - a with one cohesive message - that of Christ as Savior of the World. Many false prophets have arose "preaching another gospel." Gal 1:8
Passiflora101 11 months ago
@MegaVenom777 All the writings regarding christ are second or third hand written between 50 and 300 years after his supposed Death. The fact is that no-one living during christ's supposed life wrote anything about him is a bit suspicious. You would have thought that a man who supposedly healed the sick raised the dead, made the blind see, turned water into wine, (All Horus' miracles, by the way) and spoke to such multitudes, would have attracted some attention at the time, wouldn't you?
HonestMan395 1 year ago
yes thats is true the copys we have date back 50 years, but the book of acts records the history of the early church, even though the early church didnt have a book it had the holy spirt that still moves and turns hearts to god, and all of jesus miracles did attracted alot of attention so much so the religious leaders killed him but he rosed again.
MegaVenom777 1 year ago
@MegaVenom777 Exactly my point. All that fuss caused and nobody during Christ's supposed lifetime wrote a single thing about it, but that's just the start.
Take the nativity for instance.
If Christ was born during the reign of Herod, as Luke and Matthew say, then he was born before 4BCE, the year Herod died.
Quirinius was not governor of Syria (Luke 2.2) until 6-7 CE.
The only census took place at that time (6/7 CE), but no-one had to travel to their ancestral city for that . cont'd.....
HonestMan395 1 year ago
@MegaVenom777 If christ was born at all, he was born in Nazareth. The story was changed to fit the prophesy.
Now, lets take Herod.
When Herod found out that the 3 wise men had fooled him, he is supposed to have ordered the massacre of all the children under 2 years old. (Matthew 2. 16-18)
Although he did kill his own sons, their is no record of any such massacre. Yet again another attempt to massage the facts to prove a prophesy.
Don't just read the bible, read the history of the time.
HonestMan395 1 year ago
@MegaVenom777 As for the miracles and the Parables. These can all be found in the writings of the essenes, a sect which was active long before The supposed birth of christ.
HonestMan395 1 year ago

"self-authentication"
Notharah 1 year ago
@Notharah if Scripture had to be authenticated by other sources or authority, it would cease to be the Word of God, for that is an admission that there's is a higher authority above the Word of God. when we're dealing with ultimates, it has to be a circular argument. and of course, that, as Paul puts it beautifully in 1 Corinthians 1:21-25, is foolishness to the all who don't believe.
jefflow1986 1 year ago
@jefflow1986 So you concede it's a circular argument then. That's a step :)
But: to each their own :)
Notharah 1 year ago

HMMMMMM
djguttertrash 1 year ago
First. Christianity is simply a continuation/fulfillment of Judaism and I think that both you and I would agree that Judaism came before Egyptian religions.
It is no secret that Judaism came after paganism which is also recorded in the Bible - God had to call Abraham OUT of paganism.
Third. I think it has already been established that the Catholic traditions, halos, 'sun'day worship, and the 25 of December was incorporated into the Christian religion to ease pagans into a style of gov't
aveyowyns 1 year ago
@aveyowyns Are you saying that Judaism was founded on pagan religions?
HDell1994 1 year ago
Is that what I said? Or is that what you simply hope I said?
aveyowyns 1 year ago
@aveyowyns Wait, I was just asking a question...
HDell1994 1 year ago
@aveyowyns My bad, I was just kinda confused on what you were trying to say.
HDell1994 1 year ago
@aveyowyns Christianity claims to be a continuation of Judaism just as Islam does. Christianity has 2 roots. Paganism and Judaism. Both can be seen within it. Christians of today try to distance themselves from their pagan roots and cling desparetley to Judaism. But the roots are there, for all to see.The main root is pagan.
Judaism rejected the stories of Jesus then and still does today. There is nowhere in Judaism that mentions that JHVH will send his Son to teach mankind how to be civilised.
GARYWERSLEY 1 year ago
@GARYWERSLEY
I'm sorry, but you are not going to get away with listing off a bunch of 'truths' without proving them. What about Christianity is pagan (REALIZE; I asked about Christianity, NOT Catholicism).
"There is no where in Judaism that mentions that Jesus will send his son..."
You have to be playing thick on purpose - you HAVE to be, to claim something so stupid.
aveyowyns 1 year ago
@aveyowyns The root of Christianity as we know it today is Roman Catholic. RC. Rome being the important word. Not Jerusalem. Which is the place where Christians would have liked their religeon to have started.
The idea of 'Son of God' saviours of the human race was totally pagan. Such an idea could never be acceptable to any Jew.The pagans had had other versions of Son of God Saviours. This one was different because it said that this was the Son of the God of the Jews. And He was a Jealous God.
GARYWERSLEY 1 year ago
@GARYWERSLEY
No. The root of Christianity is not Catholicism...
It may sound pagan to you - but that's one of the proofs that support Christianity - Unless Jesus existed, then the concepts that go along with his existence would not have been accepted by the Jews - which it was... The fact that Jews denied Christ while he lived, and denied him because of Roman persecution is the reason why Judaism still exist.
aveyowyns 1 year ago
@aveyowyns There was little Roman persecution of Christianity. Paul, one of the founders ofthe faith was a persecutor. persecution was recomended by St Augustine and many other later Christians. We know this because we have the history of this religeon tostudy. We should look at all religeons and see their behaviour and then look at their scriptures and find out what they say about 'Loving thy non-believing nieghbour'.
Let us not make the same mistakes again. Perhaps that is the purpose of History
GARYWERSLEY 1 year ago
@GARYWERSLEY
Judaism has NO bilbical justification as to why they don't stone adulterers, homosexuals, and non-believers, so don't even give me that: perhaps that is the purpose of history crap
aveyowyns 1 year ago
@aveyowyns The verses in Isaiah are not refering to Jesus. They refer to the political situation that Isreal was in then. Their captivity was Gods punishment on them for not being religeous enough. The faithful servant still has faith. Meaning, even though they are being punished, their faith in Gods Mercy stands firm.
Not actualy talking about Jesus. Isaiah did not have Jesus in mind. None of it is predicting Jesus. Ask any Jew, he'll tell you.
GARYWERSLEY 1 year ago
@GARYWERSLEY

It's not rocket science Machelle, show me in the Bible where it says that the number "SIX" is the Devil's number.

well if you are looking up info on why the bible is true, watch Voddie Bauchams videos.... but i like what piper points out... even though there are tons of reasons why scripture is true, and if you really understood the history of how scripture came together and has stood the test of time, and will outlast all the doubters, yes even the ones on this page.. its not enough to make you wanna die for it.. you need to be born again and see the beauty of christ in scripture. then youll really get it.
spolea04 2 years ago
Lion3Lamb 2 years ago
A good sermon but not accurate. Basically all he is saying is that if you belive it to be true it will be. He never gave any valid authentication of the 66 books of the Bible other than saying he and you do or will fee that tehy are true.
