In S 1 ep 21, it was clear to me that Sylar wants forgiveness in some way. He becomes Gabriel, subject to his mom, pretty meek until she doesn't listen to him. He frightens her and instead of lapsing into Sylar, he [somehow!] maintains Gabriel for a while. It's not till he accidentally stabs his mother [AFTER she has told him he's "damned," BTW] that he goes into a fugue and paints the explosion, after which, his Sylar voice is speaking. So I agreee with Scarylittleelf21 and pickpock both.

Sylar does have two warring personalities in a way. Gabriel and Sylar. He struggles between the good person he was and the good person he wants to be, Gabriel, and the one who seeks power and kills to become strong, Sylar. He became Sylar to escape the mediocrity of being Gabriel, but Gabriel still exists.

To me it's more about the fact that Gabriel always wanted to be special, and special is certainly what Sylar is. It's not about good vs. evil as much as it's about ordinary vs. extraordinary. And since Gabriel will chose being special, Sylar will always win.

Ah, okay. I like that perspective, and it makes alot of sense when you look at why Gabriel almost never surfaces in Sylar's personality.

That certainly would be interesting if Sylar had consumed the Super-strength of Jessica and Niki although her power is almost complicated. I have to admit that I've thought about Sylar having dual personality. Well good job surfingbarbie :D Thank you for posting.

Hmm. I, too, have thought what would happen if Sylar had a personality. But, Jessica isn't Niki's power. Niki's power is super strength, Jessica is her sister who possess' her from time to time. This was good, but I think at sometimes Gabriel was talking when it should've been Sylar and vice-versa. Good job, though.

Actually, "Jessica" is just an alternate personality for Niki. Its just a personality based off of her late sister.

no it won't happen. Jessica died because she wanted to protect nikki from their father. And she came back to nikki when she needed her. She is a complete independent personality. Sylar is just an alias. I would have picked one too if my name was gabriel grey. That's such a creepy name for a serial killer. and sylar was the first thing that came to gabriels mind when he watched the "sylar" watch.

When do they say that Jessica isn't a split personality? She sure does seem like a split personality to me and not the actual Jessica. And Sylar seems to have a pseudo-split personality already. Who knows?

Jessica accepts nikki, although she thinks that her sister is too weak to protect herself. In the first episode Jessica talks about "our son" (meaning hers and nikkis(because she says this to a criminal and not to D.L. who is micas father)). Sylar doesn't accept gabriel. Jessica talks to nikki. Sylar never talks to gabriel. (if sylar was intended to be a split personality, gabriel died when sylar took control(then sylar would be the only one))

besides. nikki stands on jessicas grave in "four months ago" and tells her that she has a problem. Short after that talk, jessica appears for the first time.

until now there are no hints or clues that sylar and gabriel are split personalities. Gabriel wanted to be special, and when he was obviously special (after he got the power from Davis) he took his alias and started to collect powers. The alternate sylar (five years gone) is mad because they blame him for blowing up new york although peter was the bomb.
