What I really love about this is the fact that by running this news story the TV company has helped to get the message out to far more people than the billboard would ever have done on it's own, and now it's on YT too where even more people will get to see it : )
I really like the guy with the trailer. He thinks the billboard is ok because of our religion and he spends his time helping the unfortunate. Why can't all theists be like him?
What about all those christian billboards? If this billboard is offensive to christians, wouldn't a jesus billboard be offensive to me? Will the prejudice never end?
@jefffay To religious people, especially the "oppressed" Christian majority in the USA, its an insult that atheists exist, much less that they dare speak out.
You'll often notice Christians labeling people like Dawkins and Hitchens "militant atheists." Last I checked, the term "militant" came with physical violence, weapons, etc. All Dawkins and those like him do is SPEAK OUT, and thats scary enough to the believers to claim insult where there is none.
@ByHimthroughHim4Him the essence of religion is that it requires belief in a supernatural power. The cornerstone of atheism is that we don't believe that. I don't mean to be rude, but I'm not sure how that can possibly be unclear to anyone. It is a very easy thing to understand.
@MultiRoydon I understand what you mean about religion, and thank you for not being rude, like most of the atheists. But the fact is, supernatural power does exist regardless of religion. Paranormal research are growing with concrete evidence. Religion requires faith, same way with atheism, in fact, it would take greater faith to be an atheist. If it is not God whom you obey, definitely, you obey yourself. Rejecting God is an excuse to live a life of lawlessness.
@ByHimthroughHim4Him suggesting that rejection of God leads to lawlessness is ridiculous. I don't believe in God; I treat others as I would be treated because that's what I feel is right, not because the bible tells me to. On the other hand, Christians who base their morals on fear of being punished by God are really not moral at all - they are just scared of what will happen to them if they're bad. Also, please provide me with a reputable source of your concrete evidence of the paranormal.
@MultiRoydon I was there in your shoes before, and i lived the life of moral decadence, believing that I am god myself so I can do anything I wanted, but it was a life of misery and strife. FYI, I believe in God NOT because of punishment, but because He rescued me the stupidity of myself. Usually, when atheists ask evidence, it is not because they want to know the truth, thier minds are closed, blocked by their egoism, as being gods themselves. So it is futile.
@MultiRoydon Not to mention, my personal supernatural experiences with God, but countless people who had experiences God have their own story to tell, Also not to mention people who study paranormal phenomenon. I am not even trying to convince you to believe in God, it is futile to argue with aheists. Funny!!! you mention the golden rule, which means that deep with in you still have a small space in your heart that knows GOd is exist..
@ByHimthroughHim4Him you've just gone from being a somewhat intelligent opponent to being a patronising, arrogant fool with no credibility. I know what the golden rule is - unfortunately you failed to understand my point in quoting it. Furthermore, you have proved your total inability to present any "concrete evidence" for the paranormal. I was raised a Christian, and took about 15 years to find out that it's all bullshit. Wake up to yourself Sunshine. You are living a desperate lie.
@NormanAngle LOOLLLL! very funny!!!!!, cant help but laugh!!! another self-worshipping atheist who spits out profanity and and evrey evil thing!!! poor thing, atheism is the worst religion of all!!!
@ByHimthroughHim4Him The issue here is not my attitude, but your inability to back up anything you have said in a logical or coherent fashion, and then suggesting that in my heart I "know God exists". Seriously, you have to understand how partonising that is.
And when the billboard goes up in flames or vandalized the only answer theist will have is "god-didit". Allowing the real criminal to freely roam around in their community.
As a Server in a Family restaurant I dread going to work for the Sunday morning shift as I have to wait on people who gather in a big building together to compare clothing and have mass hallucinations. So whenever I'm running their food out to the table and they start to pray I make sure to be as intrusive upon their pointless ritual as possible calling out peoples food while they pray and slapping their food on the table :P
why can't all christians be like that guy who does the free home repairs? if they were all kind and peaceful like that, you wouldn't hear one protest out of me! :/
Thank goodness for all these little steps in this war against religion. These are little things but they are working, religion is dying. Youtube is also killing religion, all these posts help. This is the most important battle of the millenium, useless superstition has held us back for too long.
@vrghiks Um, not quite. There are three translations of Hell is the New Testament, and they signify separation of God and man. Gehenna is one, which is a firey place where soul and body are destroyed. Hades is another, a temporary place for lost souls before judgment (in Luke it is referred to as a place of eternal torment, but that is in the form of a parable). Last is tartaro, translated as "throw to Tartarus," which has to do with fallen angels. Your conception is a vile human add-on.
@vrghiks And lest you start quoting the "lake of fire" from the Book of Revelation, contemporary scholarship largely suggests that it is designed as a warning to Christians and Jews to not assimilate into the dominant/competing pagan Greco-Roman culture. Even the pope called it "a series of visions meant to reassure the Christians of Asia amid the persecutions and trials of the end of the first century." This is also known as the "second death" for humans, which doesn't suggest eternality.
@misterzonker2584 The second death is an ultimate and eternal separation from God. The expression is found four times in the book of Revelation ( 2:11; 20:6,14; 21:8). J.H. Thayer defined the “second death” as “the miserable state of the wicked dead in hell” (Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament, Edinburgh: T.&T. Clark, 1958, p. 283).
@vrghiks Yes, it does say that so let me ask you this... How much did you pay for that cowboy hat? Tie? Dress shirt? How many decades have you busted your butt to make money?
@vrghiks Money is only necessary because the SAME type of people that found that they could control the masses with religion have found money is an easier way.
@vrghiks There is no evidence at all for the existence of any god, so saying "God" cannot be wrong is meaningless. You are just spewing out assumptions, you are not adding anything to the debate.
there wouldnt be any religion,, if everybody believed in the same god, i believe in god and i believe catholics muslims, and false cristians are pathetic. and im not brainwashed by my parents, im very very open minded, nature is to complex for it not too have a creator
@Abe91195 Nature might be complex, but how does that prove a creator? I'm assuming the creator would have to be even more complex right? And then who created the creator? Another creator? And so on?
@Abe91195 I HAVE been to haunted places. Nothing. People who expect to experience something at haunted places do, while those who do not, do not. It also seems you do not know what proof is. Personal experience is NOT proof.
@Juxtaroberto alright, go too "ghost hunters top 10 evidence". my atheist friend stayed at the stanley hotel for a week, he has questioned his atheist beliefs since.
There are thousands of religious billboards all over the country. It's about time atheists had their say. This is still the United States-"freedom of speech". If you don't like the atheist billboards, take down the religious billboards and atheists won't have a need to keep their billboards up.
Why did no one say shit when all those got Jesus billboards went up? I am really getting tired of this shit. If you believe the bible as fact you are a stupid person who has thrown out all logic. Its all good evolution will weed the dumb shits out soon enuf.
Richard Wilkins- brilliant. First religious nut....idiot. There are an overwhelming majority of religious signs everywhere. It is so rare to see a non-religious or atheist sign. So for him to say that just shows that he is intolerant and does not believe in freedom of speech, just freedom for his own brand of speech. People, there are millions of us out there, get over it, we are here, we do not accept your beliefs and we're growing, so deal with it and grow up!
That line is so much more powerful when you use the picture of the sun shining through the Twin Towers. I'm surprised they didn't have that on the billboard.
And I thought chiropracty had 2 different sects; the one that makes some sense (realign the bones for spinal health) and the one that makes no sense (use magic on spine to heal everything else)
Instead of interviewing a chiropractor about atheism they should be interviewing some atheists about chiropractic, a very controversial and potentially dangerous alternative medicine.
@markprice25cavs Yeah. They're as fair and balanced as Christians are.
watch?v=yAVOSW6FTDU
A DAY after this clip aired enough complaints were registered that it was taken down.
By the way, at the end of the clip, the reporters says something to the effect of "We have heard acknowledgments from both sides that the moon rises on believer and non-believer alike." Sounds pretty fair and balanced reporting especially since they didn't editorialize anything in the spot.
I'm an agnostic- I'm tired of hearing how only God fearing p are capable of doing anything decent for the world around them.the comments by the builder were encouraging to hear- it's what I would say was a true "christian' view- he doesn't agree but sees no reason to hurt anyone else over it.
I'll be looking up his group when I make my next round of charitable donations.
i think it's sad that everyone is used to all those bible-quoting Billboards noone actaully notices (even though there are a lot of harassing quotes on it) but as soon as you just set one up that sais "doubt is ok" there is a big media hype and people screaming and shit... an atheist doing the same in fornt of a christian billboard would quite probably get arrested.
Grreaat! Love John Lennon. Finally rationalist at work, have my support. We can love one another, we can have peace without, we can do so many things POSITIVE things w/o relig. We can practice Meditacion w. is great for the mind. Without relig. doesn't mean chaos, or violance, or crime or perdition. I left all that crab 10 years ago and I am now more peaceful with myself with nature and with humanity. And I do the good deeds bec. I want to not bec. Relig ask me to.
These Christian nut-jobs get SO pissed when even the smallest minority openly disagree with them. It's a form of censorship, Christians don't really believe in freedom of speech. They'd squash it if they could They aren't used to being challenged, they like being able to take their position for granted.
Dumbass theists, it said imagine no religion, not imagine no God. If this God thing exists, it existed before there were any religions. God may exist, but religion sucks and needs to be shot off into space in a rocket with no return label.
@dreamy2 That's not quite accurate, if they believe in a God or religion and they impose those views on their kids, that's not child abuse because they believe their child will go to hell or what ever whacky thing they believe. And they are free to believe what they want and raise their kids how they want.
As a native person from Sacramento, I have to apologize on behalf of the people in my old city. I am an Atheist and I'm pretty unshy about it for what it's worth.
Well if that isn't a biased category "Faith Matters"
I love how he phrased that "this billboard was paid by Atheists" with an anti-religious message.
Yeah, bullshit. As later mentioned, its about separation. This is about saying its ok not to believe in something. To fix religious dominance. Why do they always have to cut it down to 2 sides against each other. This is not a war, this is for equality.
I suspect that many more people are atheist or more likely, Humanist. WE believe in people and our ability to solve the problems of mankind. We have each other . No spirits necessary. Many people I know are of this persuasion, but do brother to put a label on themselves.

By the way, at the end of the clip, the reporters says something to the effect of "We have heard acknowledgments from both sides that the moon rises on believer and non-believer alike." Sounds pretty fair and balanced reporting especially since they didn't editorialize anything in the spot.
You are so biased.

People who are offended by this are likely struggling with their own beliefs.

i think it's sad that everyone is used to all those bible-quoting Billboards noone actaully notices (even though there are a lot of harassing quotes on it) but as soon as you just set one up that sais "doubt is ok" there is a big media hype and people screaming and shit... an atheist doing the same in fornt of a christian billboard would quite probably get arrested.

Wow I love that Christian driver! I wish more Christians were like him :( It's sad that most are just plain intolerant.
