WOW, this was a walk into my past. I worked there at the South Gate store in 1984 until 1988 in sales, The manager was Henry Delgado, twin brother of Phil Delgado.
hehe, anyone remember a place out here in socal off of edinger and i think beach blvd called cheap charlies? it was sort of a wharehouse type store that had lots of different stuff. toys, electronics etc. i remember buying megatron transformer there and it was cheap!!!
Oh...My...God!!!I have not seen a "Phil & Jim" commercial in way over 20 years now.Takes me back to the "eighties"(last time was the late Ronald Reagan was still President of US).

Phil & Jim's, Adrays, LAtronics, University Stereo, Pacific Stereo, Leo's Stereo, Federated Group, etc etc. Once those big box stores came in, it killed all these "little" stores. Remember Oles, Angels, Builder's Emporium?
@16Lizards I remember ALL of them plus more, Do you remember Akron and Alpha Beta markets,we can go on and on.I miss them day's,oh what about Zody's and TG&Y and Thriftimart.
@MrMegaFredzeppelin Let's see...CalStereo, The Wherehouse, Sav-On Drugstores, Ole's, Gemco. I remember Phil & Jim's, Shakey's Pizza, Miller's Outpost. If you were in Orange County you no doubt remember the Cinedome.
Hah! I still make Phil and Jim's references and NOBODY gets them...my sisters and I had a pet theory that the women in the commercials were Phil and Jim's wives...
I remember these commercials from when I was three, around 1988. That Phil n' Jim's jingle has been stuck in my head for the past 20 years! Hella expensive crap though, the TV is $1089 in 2007 dollars which makes it even cost more than the LCD I use...
I got that Zenith stereo system for my birthday in 1982. 8-track was pretty much dead by then, but my dad said he picked it because the turntable was pretty good. Added an external cassette deck and a CD player a few years later then finally gave it away. Ironically it was after that when I started collecting 8-track tapes (got an old external deck for my new stereo!)
I've been dying to hear that jingle for years! Reminds me of those miserable hot summer days with nothing to do but watch the KTLA rerun line-up. If you can find the Barbazan School for Modeling or the Doodson School for Trucking, the memory would be complete. Btw, that crap is expensive for today's standards...geeze!
Shit that's expensive!
