  • You are a great teacher, thanks, Desi.

  • is this on a electric or ascoutic guitar

  • @gracey1964 I'm using an acoustic sound. The original recording has both.

  • Thanks Desi. Strange that I came across this one that doesn't paly on iPhone. The message says "The author of this video does not allow playback on iPhone." No worries though :)

  • @patmurfi After a closer look, I see that this video has some restrictions on it. But they aren't anything I can change. Apparently there are some pending copyright issues. I've lost videos and even whole channels before over this. : (

  • Hi Desi. Any reason why this doesn't play from iPhone?

  • @patmurfi Wish I could help but I have no idea. Sorry.

  • is something wrong with my speakers or is all of the audio coming out of the left speaker?

  • @miller306678 Something is wrong with the dummy who recorded this (me).

  • im glad you play through it fast first so the people who dont need step by step instruction dont have to waste their time, much appreciated

  • very nice job dude

  • nope thats not right old buddy

  • Brilliant.. Thanks Muchly

  • finally someone who teaches the whole song.

  • That's really cool that you show the chords that you derive the ones you use from. Maybe it's just because I'm a musical pointy head. LOL! But, it really made a light go off in my head. Perhaps "flubno" is right about it being a little confusing including the extra music theory tidbits. Hey, you can't please them all. But, you pleased me, bro!

  • What a cute song. I like your teachings but I don't need to know what cord these are related. I don't need to see cord that are not in the song. It can get kinda confusing for us slow learners.

  • nice and clear explanations! nice piece that I didn't know !

  • Geat job. thanks for explaining the chords as well. What a fun song!!!

  • This is by far the best!

    sorry to all the rest...

By the way, no need to explain yourself to no one.

    Keep up the good work!

  • wEll pUt SoNg

  • great format...well done!

  • I play the opening riff as shown, but play the second riff in the same position as well (ie higher up the neck, middle strings). Same notes, more bass and I don't have to take my fingers off.

Same goes for the last progression. It's essentially the same finger positions moved up and down the neck.

  • Sorry semiLivedj, but this is exactly how I play and teach it. If you want to learn the original version, then you're looking in the wrong place. Get the official tab.

  • Sounds just like the song to my ears. Just because he's playing it a different way doesn't make it wrong. This is great for beginners like me.

Oh and you're not just withholding credit, you're dishing out ridicule. The term "credit where credit is due" is reserved for acts of praise.

Thanks GuitarMusicTheoryTab for taking the time to post this video. It's very helpful. AND FREE!

  • It's actually much easier to play than this, this fingering is much more difficult.

  • marty's version is NOT the original version of this song. dont get me wrong, i love a lot of what marty does, but his version of this song is not even close. get your facts straight before you go and act like a dick next time.

  • jeremyo1313,dude what are you 12,no reason to get pissy with me,if you feel you have to stick up for somebody, then go stick it up your ass you goofdick,I'v been playing for 30 yrs, whats your "facts",next time you attack someone at least have a reason other than to just not agree with an opinion, otherwise you just look like a kid on the playground, but then again that's what you just could be.and yes, marty does the original verson.

  • semiLivedj, this guy is teaching the CAGED method, and using Jack and Diane as an example. seriously, don't be a cock!

  • @semiLivedj Hey there is no wrong way to play anything i love people putting there own spin on things

  • Great instruction! Thank you.

  • Yeah The boss rocks!!!!!!!!

  • Its not the boss... Its john Couger Mellencamp...

  • TABS PLEASE!!!!

  • Excellent instruction, very easy to follow instructions.

  • best jack and diane cover/lesson on youtube

  • On the interlude, right after you slide up to the C-form E chord (at 5:57), you should hit the A string once, then strum once, rather than do two strums. Other than that, very good lesson!

  • Music is so structured and plain, therefore needs no theory!Nothing but sound...

  • Keep telling yourself that.

  • Dude,I never commented here?

  • Drugs are bad, mkay?

  • Great lesson...Live version for you played almost exactly the same way...(my guitar is in Eb) Cheers

  • Dude you don´t take a guitar like that. Shame to you.

  • This is very easy to follow,

But i do have one question.

when you strum the D string in his intro he does it twice pauses and strums it twice again. but, when he teaches you he strums it several times and moves on. They both sound right, but which one is?

  • There a many versions of this around - I think this is the only correct one, and beautifully done! Very clear - easy to follow. Thanks for doing this!
