  • awwwww...now all the fat people except this person that ride carnival arent going to be able to eat because of the broken plates

  • What makes more sense, makeing the 11000 ton cruise ship turn hard or a couple of hundred pound fishing boat?......CRUISE SHIP

  • i was on that cruise a year later and once during it the cruise ship swayed and i hit a pole. i also walked into several poles but not the point

  • as far as i know, the fishing boat should have moved, not the carnival ship, as its smaller, more manuverable and was on the carnivals port side,

  • @Smithyards Read the Navigation rules before you post! What does portside have to do with anything? The ship is overtaking, not crossing and a fishing boat has priority.

Rule 13 (a): Any vessel overtaking any other shall keep out of the way of the vessel being overtaken.

Rule 18 (a): A power-driven vessel underway shall keep out of the way of a vessel engaged in fishing.

You could argue that the fishing boat wasn't engaged in fishing.

  • @trentin24 I'm going off the footage... (which looking from it the fishing vessel was on the port side)

An overtaking vessel must keep out of the way of the vessel being overtaken. 'Overtaking' means approaching another vessel at more than 22.5 degrees abaft her beam, i.e. so that at night, the overtaking vessel would see only the stern light and neither of the sidelights of the vessel being overtaken

  • @Smithyards It also looks like the fishing vessel had running lights on only. Also if the carnvail was in a channel then this rule would have come into effect :9. Narrow channels * A vessel proceeding along a narrow channel must keep to starboard. * Small vessels or sailing vessels must not impede (larger) vessels which can navigate only within a narrow channel.

(Part b, section 9, sailing and steering)

  • @Smithyards The poster said the ship turned to Starboard and the boat was on the port side in the vidio. It's clear the ship was approaching from more then 22.5 degrees abaft the beam, but, if you're overtaking some one (like a slow moving truck on the highway) their bearing will change to be alongside and then behind you which is why part (d) exists.

  • @Smithyards Just in case, part (d) states "Any subsequent alteration of the bearing between the two vessels shall not make the overtaking vessel a crossing vessel within the meaning of these Rules or relieve her of the duty of keeping clear of the overtaken vessel until she is finally past and clear."

  • Fail Carnival.

  • its really not that serious lol if you thought that was bad wait until you go through rough seas lmao

  • @Lon3Wolf420 I agree! I was on the Royal Caribbean Majesty of the Sea going to the Bahamas when Katrina hit!!! That boat was literally swaying from side to side like a swing!!!

  • i was on this cruise! it was after dinner and i was watching the performance.

  • I'm not going on the Carnival Splendor. They actually crashed into a Royal Caribbean ship.

  • @yoface459 thats carnival legend

  • @yoface459 And then they lost power and were stuck at sea for a few days

  • @dudestir127 HAHAHA.... that ship is messed up. i will always go royal... but ill try carnival

  • @yoface459 not anymore :P its back sailing from long beach.

  • @yoface459 they royal caribbean ship crashed into them when they were leaving port.

  • i was here but i was peacefully sleeping and dont know what happened...

  • Officers on the bridge waited last minute for a reason, large turns to avoid small ships who really should give way can change the cruise schedule entirely

  • The list doesn't seem that bad. People shouldn't have been THAT scared.

  • It is hard to tell what happened here.

Small boats to not have to give way to larger vessels unless it is in a very narrow channel and the larger vessel would have problems manouvering. In open waters the rules of the road apply regardless of size.

Og course you can die maintaining your right of way.

  • oh my god i was there that day when it happened!!

  • As a general rule, smaller ships or boats must give the right of way to larger ones, which is probably why Carnival waited until the last second, they were expecting the fishing boat to move.

  • That could be true.

  • Carnival ships do have the latest navi equipment. Everything within 4 nautical miles of a ship is identified. If a smaller and/or more maneuverable vessel doesnt give way or changes course unexpectidly, the larger vessel can only collide or take evasive action.

  • From the looks of all these Carnival close calls and accedents it doesn't look like much has changed in the past 15 years.

  • you would actually be surprised how little certain cruise lines invest in high tech cutting edge navigation instrumentation.

Was on a RCCL cruise (my first - back when you could tour the bridge) and kept noticing how a Carnival ship would follow us during our itinerary. The carnival ship kept shadowing us the entire time.

We later found out later that the intinerary was new for both lines and that RCCL ships at that time had much better tech. on board and it was very common.

  • I dont know where you get your info about navi on board ships... Every Carnival Cruise I have been on, there have been RC and other cruise lines ships following us at some point. Ships also have scheulded times in ports and have to adhere to them

  • What r u talking about?? I never wrote anything about "navi" onboard ships??

  • A total surprise that Splendor has to do last minute manuver. I just came from the Splendor & learned all kinds of high tech it uses. Is the Captain or First Officer doing their job?

That fishing boat needs to be rammed from all directions, LOL...

  • that never happened when i went on that cruise in august.

  • I was on the ship when this happened! I was in the gold pearl and i thought for sure that we were going down - yikes!!!

  • This happened to us on Carnival Pride last year. Captain made a hard bank to the left and all of the pools drained on the lido deck. I was on the sun deck and was looking straight down in the water...not to mention hanging on for life!

  • im so glad that didnt happen 2me i went on that same ship last week i saw baby dolpins that rlly suxs!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow. I didn't see THIS on the Carnival website. lol

  • @sacmom3 because it wasnt that serious.

  • I was on this ship the 21-28. First cruise to Mexico and we still had a change in itenerary due to a Hurricane. That's crazy seeing water all the way over there.

  • What room was this in? It doesn't look outside.

  • Lido deck, next to pizza place

  • Yeah, I know. I always post comments before I finish watching the vid.

  • I was there too! I was in the Pinnacle, and a whole stack of plates slid off a podium there. We were sitting next to the window on the side that was going downward!

  • Haha I was in the Gold Pearl when this happened.

My dish nearly fell off the table and the waiters were screaming trying to keep a stack from falling off LOL

  • u ate atthe gold pearl 2 hahahahahahaha i went last week it was great

  • anyone video that one guy that was always in the red carpet dancing. his sig. move was humping the pole?

  • I was on it too, but in the show at the time and wondered why we were leaning so far left for so long. Some people didn't feel it at all.

  • i was on this was crazy i saw the pool overflow it was a fun
