  • MiKaKo22 - mochiko is the Japanese name for glutinous rice flour, which is the same thing as sweet rice flour. It is NOT the same thing as regular rice flour though.

  • Where can you buy Mochiko in Québec, Canada? Do you think a China Townwould have it? I'm looking for it like nuts D;

  • @KokoroAiNeko Im going to make it with "Glutinous rice flour" tomorrow, if you look and wikipedia "daifuku" it says glutinous rice flour not mochiko. So just look for "rice flour" then "glutinous". Try asian (indian, chinese, korean, ect) shops, i found my flour in an afgani shop lol.

  • I love tiramisu Daifuku

  • anko is actually jap for red beans?

  • @applelicious1314 read beans=azuki, anko=sweet azuki paste (has sugar)

  • @Cernunnas ohh thnks :D

  • talk to me. i'll hook you up........with mochiko

    hahahah!!!!

  • you make the mochiko sound like drugs =D

  • Subtitles.

  • This is fake mochi, try using sticky rice instead of mochiko.

  • @hinatalover12332

Learn how mochi is made dummy..Sticky rice is used for totally different purposes..

  • @Toyman07

Mochiko is sticky rice flour with sugar. dummy. Sticky rice is also known as glutinous rice, and before you start to tell me about mochi, try spending a month in japan and spending the japanese new year in japan, they make sticky rice then pound it and all this other stuff, i bet you can even find a video on youtube.

  • @hinatalover12332

Mochi can be made using either mochigome or mochiko. Mochiko is just flour made from mochigome, and does not contain any added sugar.

  • @hinatalover12332 spend a month in japan and spending japanese newyear in japan to become an ultimate weabbo am i rite?

  • Mmm...this looks real good. 2 questions though. Where do you find anko? And wat exactly is it? Also, where do you find mochiko? Do you think I could find it at a Asian market (Korean, Japanese, or Chinese market)? Thanks a lot! ;)

  • I am going to make this. I buy mochi as a treat once in a while but this looks like so much fun!!!

  • I've been looking around at daifuku recipes on youtube and I absolutely love your narration, hilarious and more vlog-like than commercial. I was starting to get very dissapointed when all the extremely veiwed recipes said steaming and steam is just a hassal and it takes forever. Love the microwave people! XD

  • Your method was FANTASTIC! I had to make mochi for my Japanese class as extra credit and at first I used an old recipe from..well an old book. The two big batches I made just went down the drain! (Trash) I was sooo frustrated and found this video. I made at least 48 mochi's in an hour! Fast, easy, DELICIOUS! Kudos!!

  • if u dont value ur life put poop inside

  • Mochiko = Glutinous Rice Flour

I found glutinous rice flour at an Asian market fairly easily.

    Gonbatte! :D

  • Awesome! Love it! Thanks for the tips and the recipe!

  • if you value your life, you will want corn starch.

    epic. stoic. awesome. :D

  • I wanna make this. Plushy maka gonna help me. if i can find Mochiko.

  • it wants to eat me X3 nuuu

  • Can you use powdered sugar in place of the corn starch? Thank you in advance! Love the video by the way! Very well and humorously put together! ^-^

  • Wow, your voice is so beautiful.

  • i like this video, it was adorable. moms like OHMAHGOSH WE IS GUNNA MAKE THIS~~~!

    :]

    thanks for the instructions

  • you love me long time joe?

  • wow... i miss those...

  • wikipedia sais that Mochiko is better known as rice flour, they got this in a local asia store, but I'm not sure weather to use plain rice flour or glutenous rice flour - I suppose I have to use the glutenous one in order to keep those things stick together?

  • mochiko is SWEET rice flour i think

  • Late reply, but yes, use the glutinous sweet rice flower.

  • I value my life ... so cornstarch i shall use xD I <3 these videos!!

  • can you buy mochiko at wal-mart or hannaford?

  • i highly doubt it; but you can get it at asian marketplaces :)

  • oh!ok!thanks!^_^

  • I found it at my local Kroger's. If the stores don't have it, ask them to order it. Most stores will be wiling to.

  • mochiko is just the japanese name for glutinous rice flower which I'm sure you can find at those stores.

  • flour*

  • thanks!

  • @coffeekoneko i hope we can find some glutinous rice flowers :D

  • Thank you!!

  • Where can I get mochiko? I am trying to buy it online but they want me to have a minimum 10$ order

  • I found mine at my local Kroger's. If you can't find it at the stores where you live, either try looking at an asian food market or ask the stores to order some. Most of the stores will be willing to order it.

  • is glutinous rice flour the same as mochiko???

  • Yes.

Rice Flour is made from regular ground rice, while Gluttonous Rice Flour is made from Gluttonous Rice, such as the typical kind used for Sushi. May sound obvious, but not a lot of people know that.

Anyway, Mochiko is the same thing, just with a brand name. Gluttonous Rice Flour can probably be purchased for less money but may be harder to find depending on where you look or where you live.

You can also use cooked Sushi Rice for a better flavour/texture if you mash it into a smooth paste.

  • Hi. I love your video as much as daifukus! (A lot)

  • I live in switzerland. I am utterly unable to find Mochiko. Where can I order it online?

  • I don't know how it is in Switzerland, but in most Asian shops you can find mochiko, aka glutinous rice flour.

  • I really want to make these, but there's no asian store in my town (at least that's what I think), so it's impossible to find mochiko... and it doesn't come out well with plain rice flour (tried it before) it comes out as a very gooey paste you can't mold.

  • oh no no!

    you need potato starch!

  • Fubon in portland sells lots of this stuffs. It's nummy

  • OMG thanks for posting this!

I found out what daifuku is just last week and I've been dying to try it but when I did, I used all the wrong stuff and it came out unusual and weird.

  • can I make it with non glutonous rice flour?

  • I can't wait to make mochi! :)

  • it tastes really good with peanut butter (stick plus more sticky)

  • o ok..krogers

  • so where can i get mochiko

  • apparently kroger, and super h marts (around $1.50ish, sale being aound $1.20ish)

i use glutinous rice flour, it works well, and much cheaper (69-99cents for 16 oz)

  • do they sell it at publix?

  • hm.. i don't know, there aren't any of those in houston.

i go to a chinese grocery store in china town to get it. it is possible for publix to have it.

  • i was jk i know publix doesnt sell it lol

  • wow where do u ppl live Kroger? Super H?

    what are those cereal brands?

  • i live in houston. kroger and Super H those are grocery stores. (kroger has a giant stream of grocery stores by diffrent names in different states. publix could be part of kroger)

    where do you live?

  • The sunshine state =D

  • =D

publix makes delicious sandwiches in the deli.

    try walmart?

  • can't you just use glutinous (i spelled that wrong) rice

i like the narrerations, it is funny and humerus and awesome.

  • We Have the same plates Dude...XD

  • LOOOL! XD this is so funny and it really helps out alot!~ Thank you so much! 8D

  • does it go hard after a day or two? i made mochi once which is similar to this and it went so hard after a day!

  • This is amazing. You make the mochi seem like a monster..you are funny. Thanks for the vid!

  • well you might think dango is yummy

but ive tried it its just a ball maked from mochiko its not so yumy as daifuku

  • i was looking for mochiko at my local azn stores and couldnt find it.starting to get mad i went to shoprite and to my surprize i found it in the bakeing isle and i was like WTF

  • I found Mochiko in Kroger....I will repeat, I found Mochiko in Kroger! o_o Yeah, it makes zero sense.

  • ilyaHeart-san you should try to make Dango for us!!!!!! <3

  • dango = mochi with a sweet sauce

  • I am aware. I've eaten Dango before. Just as I have eaten Daifuku. But different people make it different ways. That'd be like asking me to make you Scrambled eggs and then having someone else do the same thing to compare techniques. I just want to see her make Dango.

  • Where can I find mochiko?

  • mochiko is the japanese word for glutinous rice...u can buy it at asian shops..

  • Where can I get those ingredints if I live in Mexico?.. or where can I buy those daifuku's?? I love eat that.. last time I went to japan I was so.. deligted..!! please help me ilyaHEART!!

  • u can find find them on asian shops..e.g chinese supermarket etc...

  • Arigatou gozaimasu!!!

  • Lmfao. & If You value Your life You will want corn starch. Classic. I Told my Lil Cousin about the monster & molten lava Stuff She Started Crying.

  • thanks, i was just gonna make them

  • HAHAH

    you're funny

  • hahaha this video is brilliant! i just made daifuku for the first time about 20 minutes ago [before having the sense to look up a video on how to make it] and mine came out the same way. lumpy and silly looking. but they still taste great! this video made me laugh :D good video!

  • I have those exact plates! yeah!!!

  • ARIGOTO!!!! can't wait to try and make this!!!(once I get all the ingredients)

  • how to you make the anko??

  • the anko past looks like some sort of red bean past..... i think this mochi thing is somewhat like a glutinous rice ball but much bigger....is it?

  • isn't that MOCHI?

  • yeah she said that a few times towards the end.

  • LOL! Amazing video! 5 stars!

  • Omg this is weird we have the same plates

    hahaha

  • btw i did this only i put ice cream in it

and i did some things differently

    anyways nice videos

    :]]

  • ...... sorryyy but what is anko?

  • Domo arigato gozaimasu!

I also thought these were much harder to make.

Aren't the ones made with anko bean paste called manjuu? That was what I thought anyway.

  • manjuu are baked and a kinda different.

  • wat anko?

  • Thank you very much, i thought those were more difficult to make!

  • haha it will eat me xD

    pretty awesome vid!!

  • ooo i wanna make it. I got a question about how to get the materials though.

  • ...is mochiko like glutinous rice flower? cuz thats all i got. TcT. the Caribbean sucks when it comes to getting stuff...btw i love your tutorials...soo cute and funny!

  • Yes! Exactly right :3

  • haha love your sense of humor :)

  • where can i find the mochiko?

  • Try any local asian food stores or asianfoodgrocer if you have to resort to buying online.

  • great rythm

  • I know someone who used strawberries. I like it with vanilla pudding in the middle, because I'm a terrible Asian and hate bean paste.

  • I think your voice is so cute. I remember a while ago i watched this vid.. and then today I came into another one of ur vids and I was like, dude it's the same voice!! Then I was like, it's the daifuku girl!!!

  • Ah! Thank you! "Daifuku girl" x3~

  • what language is this in? cant hear

  • It's english... she just speaks fast.

  • You're not alone. Many people don't ever understand what I'm saying @__@''

  • lol look delicious but with my luck I'll get eaten by that monster you keep talking about... and i may eat my cat... and i love my cat...

    lol

  • nevermind. lol, its red bean paste, haha!^^

  • what does anko taste like, and whats in it?

  • It's azuki beans and sugar. And it tastes like...sugar. If you tend to dislike foods due to their texture you might not like it, but if not check out my other video and try it out :D

  • HELP!! NEED MOCHIKO!!!!

  • im one of those retarded cheap ppl who use like, american shit to make my bentos and crap and yea..its def not top nouch but ...its..edible???

so cheers to me and my cheapness..ness..

  • I need Mochiko! But i will try to find it at my local commicary or i can ask the Japanese teacher at my school to hook me up with it. And if that doesn't work, i need ilyaHEART to hook me up with it... THANX!

  • Japanese teachers/professors are always good. like in my first japanese class, 安田先生 had an entire class session... for making sushi... no, actually, it was post-exam, so, half a class session. was fun. *sigh* i miss those days...

  • Ask for "sweet rice flour" at your local grocery/oriental food store. It should say mochiko somewhere on the package. (I get mine at Schnuks)

  • hm. i suppose i'll answer a couple questions, anko is sweet red bean paste, ilyaHEART's video "How to make An" tells how to make it from scratch (i'm surprised how well the stuff keeps, too) anyways, mochiko can be found in most asian food stores, the box my local store sells is, um... *pulls out ruler* about 1.75x6.75x3.5 inch and contains 16oz of the stuff. one box should yield enough for 3 recipes, if you're a bit conservative with your measurements.

  • One more thing. Is this the same dough used for sweet red bean buns?

  • no, dats something else=p

  • These are good instructions. You are funny. XD I deal with the same problem when I make sushi, the rice sticks to me. I can probably find Mochiko at an Asian food store? By the way, what is Anko? Can I use ice cream? Because I had Ice Cream Mochi...it was good!

  • i guess this may be irrelevant but juz to help u, if the rice of sushi sticks onto ur hand, before putting the rice, spread a little bit of water onto you hand..that would make things easier..

  • This looks great but , where would I find Mochiko? Preferably in Canada or online somewhere.

  • I didn't know making this stuff was so easy. Thanks!

  • attempt #2 for me yielded about the same results. better than attempt #1 though. perhaps i'll have 安田先生 be a victim of attempt #3 (she's a former Japanese professor, who i keep in touch with)

  • thanks for that great recipe!!!!

  • I love this. Daifuku are yummy. So is anko.

  • your video's are the best, I just watched all of them. Now me and my sister will be going on a cooking spree to make all of these things.

seriously, you should keep it up.

  • I like the personification of the Mochi

  • I like that you actually used the word "personification" rather than dumbing yourself down for the majority of the internet :]

  • Thanks for making this video. Your food all looks great O_O I have to go mochiko hunting now... Thanks again :3

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  • You're very welcome!

  • Thanks for the video :3. I wish my mother would take me to the store more often so I could make it T_T. Anyway, I've never had daifuku, but I've been dying to. I also love that you can fill it with anything. I really want ice cream daifuku but that would suck to try and wrap xD. I know what you mean about the monster-sticky. Drop biscuits are the same. Even with precautions, the flour and corn starch gave out and I had to have my sister scrape what she could off of my hands.

  • it wants to eat you!

  • Thanks! I had a hard time making Mochi before, this helps!

  • wow, video was entertaining, I think I'll make some for someones christmas present this year ^ ^

  • my mom wants some of the mochiko

wheres do you get it? =]

  • Asian food stores usually have it, but if those are null asian food grocer dot com sells it. It's pretty cheap :]

  • Hey again! o_o I just thought you'd like to know that I made your recipe again but this time I tried adding flavoring to it (Vanilla, Strawberry) and it was SO GOOD. Maybe you should try it the next time your making it ^_^ Food coloring is also fun XD I made some green mochi for halloween and it was funny as heck. Well that's it! Thanks again for the video!

  • Cool! x3 I wanna make strawberry now~ Thanks!

  • THANKYOU! I did it :D. Buut... I didnt have Mochiko.. the exact brand, but I went to my asian store and baught some rice flower. It worked They arent quite as firm as yours but they are still very good. A little refridgerating and they might be as good as yours! thankyou so much :)

  • is there anyway to make daifuku that will last a couple of days????!! as soon as i flipping put it in the fridge, its hard as a rock and all not soft....too much cornstarch?? please help XD

  • It's pretty much an eat-within-one-day food. But hard as a rock? They'll get solid, but if they're that hard it may be not enough water. Cornstarch is a pretty cool guy though. He doesn't do much wrong :]

  • okay..sweetness.! thanks XD

  • ahh, great and seems so easy! I'll try today.

thank you A LOT for this, you explain it really well ^__^

  • Thanks tons! I really appreciate people watching these videos x]

  • alright, I tried it just as you said, but isn't 2 cups of water a bit too much? it was all a bit... fluent. and before I didn't put more flour in it, I couldn't make any shape of them (and even after that I didn't really manage to do a ball shape, they were way too soft). just hint maybe^^

  • I believe I said 2/3 of a cup of water, not two n__n;;

  • ah hell now I understand ~_~ I thought like 2 or 3 sorry xD

  • That's okay; we all make mistakes. I nearly started a fire the other day because I wasn't paying attention while cooking OWO;;

  • haha, you're crazy!

but anyway, I'll check out your other vids too I guess :D

  • i dont have mochico here :( saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad

i wish i could make those

  • Try asian food grocer dot com. They have all the basics :]

  • can i us other rice flouer to or no?

  • Only glutinous rice flour works. Anything else will end up hard and icky. But will bounce! -lol tried it with regular rice flour before-

  • where do u get mochiko because i tried to make it and it totally sucked so where do u get mochiko?? help me

  • You can buy it as asian food stores, and if you don't have any in your area I'm pretty asian food grocer, the website, carries it. It comes in a little white box with a blue star on it :]

  • thank u thank u thank u for the azuki and mochiko

  • i screwed up and it tasted like crap

My baby sister were my test subjects

  • i cant find mochi like anywhere

  • The only place I could find mochiko was this asian food store a couple towns away. Look everywhere it could be. The stuff is worth it <3

  • I followed your instructions and made coffee mochi this morning. It came out much better than my previous attempts at baking it.

  • Hey my mom is Japanease and she said that you did a very good job. If it comes from a Japanease woman it must be true! Great job! 5/5 stars

  • Thank you very much! Ahh, you made me too proud; my face is turning red *n__n*

  • I love how you describe the risks in making mochi: "a monster that wants to EAT you" "it is molten lava hot hot and it wants to KILL you, and it will if you're not careful."

Of course, the reason this is funny is because it's true. In a pinch, this stuff could replace napalm.

  • I think I know what I've been doing wrong. I've been using really soft stuff for my filling. I need something that can hold up a bit better, something firmer. Like peanut butter and honey, mixed together and refrigerated to make it stiff. Or even a Hershey's Kiss.

  • What have you been using before? BTW, I'm liking that Hershey's kiss idea :]

  • I've been using jellys, jams, preserves. I did try peanut butter, and it almost worked. I'll get there.

  • Oh, those would be a bit difficult. Fresh fruits work as long as you don't intend on keeping them for a while (sometimes the fruit juices will leak out).

  • Just tried it today with the Hershey's kisses. It worked! Now, they weren't all the same size, they weren't a pretty as the ones you buy at conventions. But it worked. YAY!!

Having just gotten a rice cooker, I had to go and start with the rice, instead of the Mochiko.
