What is the ruling on receiving/giving interest in an inflation based economy? If I lend someone £100 and a year later I get £100 back but because inflation was 5%, that £100 is now worth less so I'm losing out. Is it okay to take interest in this situation seeing as I'm not exploiting someone but merely not losing out?

Riba saves lives because it makes it more expensive to borrow money and borrowed money is like mother's milk to warfare, wars are nursed on money and they grow larger over a few years on that milk. You can only get so much funding by inflicting special war taxes, in the pre modern world and right up until the early 20th Century, bankers openly lent money to belligerant princes and nation states and empires. Very high interest rates mean fewer smaller and shorter wars.

People borrow money all of the time when they are not in need (the state assists poor people to get fod and shelter and other vital needs) . With the exception of medical bills, no one needs to borrow $10,000 or $200,000 to survive. People, often times borrow to have money for vacations, to buy cars, plasma TV's, bigger houses ect. Interest rates are a check on people going even deeper into debt, if we had zero percent inetrest rates, more people would be in even more credit card debt.

There is a big problem I didnt here anyone mention. Currency. The Federal Reserves used to print out currency or paper money according to the amount of gold they hold in the bank. Now they are printing money from nothing. And for every dollar they print that is not supported by gold is a government debt. So the dollar is actually 1$+interest. In other words our paper money is based on Riba.

Salaam everyone. At 9:27 the speaker says that if you repay the $1,000 and add a present to it, its haraam to accept the present. I think he is wrong. There is a hadith that in which it is mentioned that the Prophet said "the best among you are those who repay their debts handsomely" ; this was over a camel which the Prophet owed to a man. This hadith is mentioned in Sahih Bukhari. What is important to note is that it would be haraam if the man lending the money asked for the gift but its not

If Pakistan borrowed(on RIBA) from USA, starting 1948 or from any other western country and even to this day, borrows on RIBA from the IMF-International Monetary Funds or from the World Bank than what's the difference between YOUR Eastern country Pakistan from any country located in the West?

Allah will deal accordingly with such countries and will become apparent. Just look at Dubai, UK, US etc. In the west you know apnaywalay say morgage pay ghar lo, ccd, loans etc.. It has become too common as if it has "become a nescessity" . Lessons need to be given..

India is predominantly Hindu nation, so Riba is no big deal to them. Pakistan is Muslim by "claim" only and indulged in Riba. I have asked this question before but I wanted to see if I get the same answer; If you're a woman, and you have no choice because your husband makes you use credit cards that have interest to buy things, will the wife be punished also? And also, will a person be forgiven for doing riba if they ask for forgiveness afterward and don't use riba after that willingly? Thank you!

@suzanne83ray It is the husbands job to provide HALAL for his wife and children. The woman must tell him to change his ways, immediately. If you did not know about RIBA, you won't be responsible. But if you continue, the sin is not only his. With Riba involved money, everything, is Haram.

If you change your ways, Allah is forgiving.
