John's error in this is that He doesn't really believe God can speak to us today outside of the written text. Yes, the written text is the end all be all standard for everything else, but for 400 years after Jesus died there was no official bible for God to use yet somehow all of those thousands of believers seem to hear the Lord just fine - even to the point that many were willing to lay down their very lives.

The danger of this teaching is it minimizes true friendship with God.

this is very true,i was stuck in Churches like these ones mentioned for a long time until by The Grace of God alone God despite what church i went to or what false teachers taught me God matured me enough and brought me to a place to plainly see The Truth and stop wanting some kind of mystical emotional experience,Praise Jesus for His teachers like Brother John MacArthur......Amen

Thank yo Blaze25z for getting the "unaltered WORD of GOD" out there. I have been studying under JM for almost 10 years now & have not found any that speak as clearly as him. The Word is not up for debate as many want to think & more & more evangelical churches are altering God's Word to fit the masses. God Bless!!

I am dealing with this problem every day at my college where so many kids think they are recieving messages from God to tell other people about their lives. Its ludicris!

Even though at the time this happened I wasnt really saved cuz I "backslid," but I used to try to get filled with the holy spirit many times and speak in tongues, somehow I knew it had to be false because I now know the tongues thing was for the early church only. The Pentcostal lie is that u get baptized in the Holy Spirit and fire sometiome after salvation just like water baptism. HS baptism happens at the moment of conversion. As far as fire baptism, could be trials, temptation, etc.

I am a christian & when I was baptized with water, it was great! But not 2 long after that, I was standing in church sunday morn singing "Create in me a clean heart" when all of a sudden, a tingling started at my toes & right up thru my head. I had to sit or fall & the tears were flowing & it truly was the most WOW experience of my life. I don't speak in tongues or anything but I have amazing GOD MOMENTS all the time. I was washed with the Holy Spirit & am very grateful 2 HIM! God Bless!!

Well, McArthur doesn't believe miraculous healing, he's kinda lost in there

hidened MacArthur has said over the years that if and when the Lord does heal, that He does so by His will... according to His plans and purpose. Dr. MacArthur does believe in God`s healing, just not in the way charaismatics practice..

I'm really glad I heard this series. I agree with him 99.9%!! But I think his 100% God doesn't talk to people individually today AT ALL is not accurate. But I do stay away from friends I have these days who are ALWAYS saying "God says." I do, for the most part, agree it's NOT from God.

1Th1617 Biblically speaking, I would say that God`s (leading and guiding) His children, by the subjective experience through the desires in our hearts,Psalms 37:4, given by Holy Ghost, according to God`s plan and purpose for our lives, could be considered, "God speaking to us." I believe, that the context of Dr. MacArthur`s statements in this series, is very important to keep in mind. There is no doubt that "The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit, that we are children of God."Rom 8:16

Great message. Pastor McArthur wrote a book a while ago called "The Charismatics". I wish all pentecostal/Charismatics would read this book. Thanks for sharing Blaze!
