I used to have an A500 with the add-on of the A590 Hard-drive. My A590 had a whopping 20 Megabyte SCSI hard-drive in it. I had an extra 1 megabyte of memory plugged into the A590 memory sockets to bring my Amiga 500 up to 2 megabytes of memory. I later expanded my storage space by adding on the SCSI version of the iOmega 100MB zipdrive.
I remember playing Dogs of War on the Amiga 500. The little bad guys exploded in violent gouts of gore and you had 100 weapons to choose from including a mini gun !!
Ditto! That's why I needed up jumping ship and selling my ST (FM) to buy an A500 ... damn they were good days!
Used to love making music on my Amiga using a great programme called MEDplayer - one of my tunes actually featured as "Tune of The Month" on the cover disc of Mac Format one month!
Just thinking of scouring Amiga magazines and ordering public domain discs then waiting for them to be delivered brings back such good memories.
@twilight9202 check the top comments you have to watch in 240p for sound... ive never had that happen in a youtube video before where the sound is gone in higher quality formats lol wierd
@twilight9202 lmfao i thuaght it was funny how this promo starts to turn into a porno when the guy starts saying "what really turns me(the computer) on(then says some program name)" I thaught only the power button could turn a computer on or off...haha..
I was very close to buying an Atari 520ST when I saw the Amiga (specifically Deluxe Paint) and saved a little bit more. Thank God I didn't see this video first, though! [shudder]
This computer was completely revolutionary for its time.
Remember that at that time PCs were equipped with slow 8086, had a 4 colours CGA display with beep based sounds. And PCs cost twice as much as the Amiga...
Sadly the Amiga pretty much stagnated while PCs were evolving at a steady rate. At some point in the 90's, probably around 1995, PCs finally outpaced the Amiga.
yes 1MB stop saying it like it was crap! back then it was quality give it 20 years and people with their 1TB RAM machines will be laughing at our 1GB RAM machines!
Atari lost out because it was inferior to Amiga and also because Atari decided to put all its cards on their Jaguar console which flopped. I'm not quite sure though why Amiga lost out given that it was the unrivaled home computer. It's kind of strange that one day suddenly those old cardboard box-styled PC:s took over...
Sadly Commodore didn't keep up with the times. Apple and Silicon Graphics slowly overtook them on the photo editing and 3D rendering side, and both smartly made many deals with Hollywood studios.
On the application side IBM kept increasing their processor speeds while Motorola started lagging and couldn't keep up adequate production of the 040, 050 and 060 processors for both Apple and Commodore.
And then of course the VGA cards with hardware 3D rendering I think that was the final straw. :/
The Amiga was the best system. I used mine for years and years too. It was so innovative. It had the best sound processor too... Too bad it ended like it did, those systems really deserved to last and we would have a alternative to Microsucks and Jobs's fashion products today...

@BluestreakPictures Why do I have to live like this? I am pretty sure there are millions of people my age who feel the same way. 2012-onwards probably will get worse. And not just like pop culture and stuff, the world is going to get worse, too.

@BluestreakPictures 23 here. Yes, imo the 90s where a much better place to live than the present. And when I was 13 (1999), I felt living in the 80s would've been awesome.

@FenkRubba Life n the 80's was rad - fat skateboards- good music -stubbies and singlets -long hair- l&p-longer hotter summers - more relaxed life stylz and the commodore 64/amiga500 . *sigh* lucky i can even remember now im too fat n balding .
Wow. I got one of these for my 8th birthday, complete with the modem and a panasonic dot matrix printer. I was the first person I knew who had a computer by at least 3 years.
The gaming segment seems to be missing on this one. This came with my Amiga 500, on a VHS. I loved that machine. Still works though, but the monitor doesn't. And what the hell kind of monitor will take that plug anyway, and with the sound as well. Too bad. *hugs emulator*
This was my first computer, when i bought it i had the memory expanded from 500kb to a whopping 1meg, but it utilised that 1 meg very well...i wish i still had it...
lol @ "16 shades of grey".. I miss the old times sometimes.. The days you had to wait 5 minutes for a picture to render without going berzerk at the keyboard..

I used to have an Amiga 500 what a machine it was! However you have to LOL at this commercial - "I am expandable to 1 full meg"!! How technology moves on. What could you do with 1 meg nowadays? My phone has 80 mb, with a 2 gig card. 1 meg!!!! Ah, those were the days. ps. Was the 500 REALLY designed to have a big, heavy monitor plonked on top of it??????/
The 1980's 8-bit era was so exciting. Today, computers have no soul........and the Micorsoft versus Apple (yawn) war is no where near as exciting as the Atari ST v Commodore Amiga 500 slugfest. Back then, comparing software and your baby's hardware capabilities in the school yard or CPU club was exciting, engaging and fraught with nerd aggression. No such thing now, we have been conditioned to accept mediocre generic machines that we have 2 upgrade every couple of years.BORING(yes,so is ipad)
Yeah, but this thing is old. the new stuff is better. and this thing is complicated, it's like you can't use it at all. BUT I LOVE THE AMIGA. Too bad its no more :(
Funny thing is it would still blow away any windows or apple box today, and play a sonata in the background while it was doing it. Way to go gates and jobs.
Nowadays it sounds insane to edit videos having only 1/2048GB RAM, 7/1000GHz CPU, and no hard drive at all.
But when you use two good VCR devices instead of decoding audio nor video streams it is far enough to add subtitles and other simple graphics effects (a bit like OSD), freeze frames, stretch time line.
Of course it was much more complicated to use and more expensive (comparing to salaries) than latest PC/Apple with up to date Creative Suite software. But it was possible.
Love how the top comments are the same exact thing. >:\

Funny thing is it would still blow away any windows or apple box today, and play a sonata in the background while it was doing it. Way to go gates and jobs.

@jwintoox At the time, high end PC's could show 16 colors. Most could only show 4, though. ;)
