For the Arigato/ I love you argument , I think Yuna is the character that represent the Japanese culture (her kimono and politeness). And in traditional Japanese or other Asian culture, people don't normally or casually say 'I love you' (Unlike modern western culture). So in the FFX Japanese version, saying 'Arigato' will be more suitable and fit Yuna's character.

it's funny, but the two things that got me the worst were, surprisingly, wakka's expression of complete disbelief and his sitting transfixed, coming to grips with the fact that the one dude he super admires is not real.

secondly, the very end part where yuna's voice lowers at the speech, and she starts remembering her journey in quick flashes... it's sad to think that she feels that those important times are lived and are now meant to be placed away to live again in peace.

Yuna telling Tidus that she loves him in the English version made the ending overall better, because she's never fully told him that she did throughout the whole game. It made the ending much more romantic and memorable, IMO.

Really, bad sound may break the game. An that is, many people saying "FFX sucks" - result of a work in a slipshod. BUT. It is not a bad game at all, right? Japan version is really very beautiful, not by graphics, but by sound. Its philosophy. You not be able to simply translate the game to english, all cutscenes go against the voices... You may adapt ENGLISH sound, assimilate with eastern spirit - only then voice acting being successfull. But sadly, not there.

exactly In this case, ありがとう does mean I love you. It probably means more than that. Its way deeper.

Japanese is VERY complicated. you can learn bases quite quickly... but there is so much details, so much ways to say something... people, stop beeing smart thinking "oh I know what arigatou means, I know better than the game translators!"

Tidus being present had a huge impact on the way Yuna looked at the world (not to mention her development as a character), and she is recognizing that by thanking him. The incidental attraction between them might even be included in that one word.

I still hate how the English version says "I love you." I mean, really. I hate to say it, but we throw around the word "love" like it's nothing. To have Yuna say "I love you" instead of "thank you" makes it sound so... wrong. She's THANKING him for being there, for all they've been through together, for giving her a chance at love.
