Are you sure this light bar came out in 1977? I was thinking more like early 1980's. I remember when our patrol cars first got them, and that was around 1984 or so and they were the new gizmo that everyone was getting.
I use to own one of these (mine had the center grille), and until now I never knew how to set the flash patterns like you have shown here. Now I wish I still had mine.
Do you want to buy one? I have one I will sell you. But you have to have a reason why you want one. These are for law enforcement only. Are you police? If not, you can not buy this.
look, I'm not police but in my country this version is not available, but I can use lightbar because I have a permission, it is not a problem, I am a safety car. It depends on the color. What color do you have? The best would be of course with red lenses and apart from these blue and yellow, but what color do you have??
God I wishef the cops still used the aerodynic lightbars.
If facing the lightbar, I prefer the right to left, almost cascading light pattern. Idk what you call it.. Where the furthest right light flashes, then the next and so on.. Looks so badass.
I agree with you, although some of the new LED lights are fantastic. More visible than any other light bar. I had the privilege of using one for about a month before I left the force. When I started, we had these Aerodynic lights, switched to the Vector lightbar, and finally went to the LEDS.
Some LAPD units still have these only because their department is so big its hard to keep all the vehicles up to date. I love these lightbars and wish more departments still used them.
I have this lightbar, except mine is red and has two lights in the middle with clear lenses like yours. Mine only has 4 rotators, and 2 mirrors on each side.
The Best Federal Signal ever came out with But, Now unless you have a Monster truck everyone thinks they look stupid on your car, only bad thing about these light bars is the Rubber Belt they use to run the Rotators, it's almost as much as the bar to get a new one and can take up to 3 months to get one, I know I had an 8 head one of these and the belt broke and I waited MONTHS to get it, but you can't beat it, only two rotators makeing all that light.
It's pretty simple. Each rotator gear has numbers around it -- like on a clock -- and a tiny white line on the frame on the bar. First, you remove the gears between the rotators so that the individual rotators spin freely. Then, you arrange the rotators so the different numbers are "pointing" at each line on the frame. When you pop the gears back down between the rotators, you have a new pattern. Experiment until you get the pattern you like. That's what I did.
Your right about this being the BEST bar FS ever developed. But they DO look very awkward on cars. Trucks, that's a different story altogether! These are still used in a lot of Fire Departments where I live and I'm always happy to see them still in service. But you'd better have some amperage to feed these badboys because they EAT it up, especially the even longer bars typically used on full-sized pumpers!
dude is that the cascading mirror pattern? i live that one. i was going to get a federal signal aerodynic lightbar from this police equipment place. i think its an old one from the 80's because it only has 2 rotators and the cascading mirrors and the front and rear flashers. they wanted 150 bucks for it. and they would refurbish it too. but idk where to get a power supply for it. i need a 30 amp 12V one. tried radioshack. they only have 15 amp ones.
I like that light pattern. It reminds me of the days when I watched "TJ Hooker" on television every day. The police cars in the show had a lightbar just like this one.
Looks like the gumballs Rosco P Coltrain had on his police car in Dukes of Hazzard one of my favorite TV shows

such a shame they don't sell these anymore
I'd get one with a magnetic mount that plugs into your cigarette lighter socket for my car - instant undercover cop car!

2 questions:
Are that really 10 lights or are there any mirrors?
Are the lights at the ends bigger than in the middle?

Actually, there are no belts in this one. Just 10 rotators and gears between each one.

Ok then how do you change the Pattern?
