what is incorrect in this video is the opening statement. Descendants of 'spaniard colonists' or whatever the narrator said, are not the ones that control the majority of wealth. Many of the wealthiest families are descended from immigrants of various nationalities, European or otherwise. People of Italian, German, Chinese, French, British (to name but a few) also control a great deal of the countries economy and government, as well as people of Spanish descent.

The Nicaraguan government and nobody cares about the Nicaraguan population, and for that reason the Nicaraguan people have to unite, it does not matter if we are mestizo, black, white, indian, etc. we must all unite, because we are basically alone. Nicaragua is a small nation, with a small population, and when the nation became poor many of our neighbors were happy. It shows that we have been on our own always; Together will form a solid nation.

n nicaragua and latin america, people are segregated by class not race like in the u.s In the u.s poor people are segregated from eachother, you have your poor "black" neighborhoods and your poor "white" neighborhoods. In latin america the poor neighborhoods are not segrated like that, everyone lives among eachother and even more most people are mixed unlike the u.s where its still taboo for a black and white to marry.

when waves of immigrants came to nicaragua, there were both poor and wealthy immigrants. The poor immigrants went to the poor neighborhoods and the wealthy to the wealthy neighborhoods. The poor immigrants from europe intermingled with the mestizos that were already in the poor neighborhoods. If any one who caused the boom of mestizos by blood in nicaragua and all of latin america, it was the poor european immigrants and poor mestizos. same go's for the mulatos.
The colonizers and mestizos are the ones who socialized with eachother, the amerindians were isolated from both. Many times the mestizo women would marry with the spanish colonizers. Throughout the colony years, many wealthy spanairds immigrated to nicaragua including families and their men and women. Since there was spanish women , there was less mixing with the "mestiza" women and the two groups became more segrated because of class
Just because a mestizo has a spanish name doesn't necessarily mean they have spanish blood, because the spanish surnames were given to the amerindians that converted to catholicism. The "mestizos" of european and amerindian blood were not the result of the spanish colonizers. There wasn't enough colonizers to impregnate the whole amerindian population, of course there were colonizers that ran off with amerindian women and vice versa but those were insignificant numbers compared to the population
The amerindians that converted to Catholicism and took spanish surnames were referred as "mestizos" to distinguish them from the amerindians that didn't convert and for their mixed cultures of the amerindian and european. Back in colonial times the "mestizos" were just amerindians with spanish surnames, they didn't necessarily have to have european blood. The colonizers were for the most part segregated from the mestizos and the mestizos segregated from the amerindians who didn't convert
During colonial times, when nicaragua was a colony of spain, the country was in its stages of development. one of the spanish colonizers mission was to spread catholicism throughout their colonies. The amerindians who converted to catholicism had more advantages than the amerindians who refused to convert. the converted amerindians lined up to receive spanish names and surnames as there "christian names"

A mestizo is one with both amerindian and european descent, not only spanish and amerindian, any kind of european + amerindian. The majority of the nicaraguan populatin is mestizo, this not a result of the spanish colonizers, the mestizo population is the result of the poor europeans that immigrated there.
Many other immigrants came to nicaragua both rich and poor. German Mennonites for the most part are poor germans that immigrated for religious regions also many rich germans immigrated to nicaragua to invest but a lot of them were forced in jails because of world war 2, the u.s government demanded that latin america round up all their german immigrants. Many Palestinians immigrated to nicaragua to escape the conflicts in their land of the gaza strip and the conflicts with the jews.
Nicaragua had many waves of immigrations just like all of the americas. Many spaniards immigrated to nicaragua. Rich spaniards immigrated to nicaragua to invest and make many business's. Poor spaniards immigrated to nicaragua in search of work and better life. Nicaraguas neighborhoods are divided by class not race like in the u.s. The poor spaniards went to the poor neighborhoods and the rich spaniards to the rich neighborhoods.
nicaragua doesn't separate by white vs mestizo, they separate between rich and poor. the sociology of Nicaragua and the rest of latin america is based on class, its not the same as the anglo sociology that uses race as a caste system.
'Interatial' marriage is not taboo in nicaragua unlike the u.s where its still taboo for a black and white to marry. Thats why nearly all nicaraguans are "mixed"

The US never colonized Nicaragua formally, but, in effect, the US controlled Nicaragua with its marines (twelve invasions from 1853 to the 1920s) & for its banking & business interests. The US also controlled the Nica goverment by helping the first Somoza take control from Sandino, whose fighters had sent the marines packing back to the US & who was beloved by the Nicaraguan people. The result was a half-century of brutal repression by Somoza & his US marine-trained & funded National Guard.

My mother is a Mestizo and she's been legal representative for several indigenous communities in international court lawsuits that the communities won. Many of the wealthiest families are descended from immigrants of various nationalities, European or otherwise. The Nicaraguan government and nobody cares about the Nicaraguan population, and for that reason the Nicaraguan people have to unite, it does not matter if we are mestizo, black, white, indian, etc. we must all unite, because we are basically alone. n nicaragua and latin america, people are segregated by class not race like in the u.s In the u.s poor people are segregated from eachother, you have your poor "black" neighborhoods and your poor "white" neighborhoods. In latin america the poor neighborhoods are not segrated like that, everyone lives among eachother and even more most people are mixed unlike the u.s where its still taboo for a black and white to marry.

when waves of immigrants came to nicaragua, there were both poor and wealthy immigrants. The poor immigrants went to the poor neighborhoods and the wealthy to the wealthy neighborhoods. The poor immigrants from europe intermingled with the mestizos that were already in the poor neighborhoods. If any one who caused the boom of mestizos by blood in nicaragua and all of latin america, it was the poor european immigrants and poor mestizos. same go's for the mulatos.

The colonizers and mestizos are the ones who socialized with eachother, the amerindians were isolated from both. Many times the mestizo women would marry with the spanish colonizers. Throughout the colony years, many wealthy spanairds immigrated to nicaragua including families and their men and women. Since there was spanish women , there was less mixing with the "mestiza" women and the two groups became more segrated because of class
issues.

Just because a mestizo has a spanish name doesn't necessarily mean they have spanish blood, because the spanish surnames were given to the amerindians that converted to catholicism. The "mestizos" of european and amerindian blood were not the result of the spanish colonizers. There wasn't enough colonizers to impregnate the whole amerindian population, of course there were colonizers that ran off with amerindian women and vice versa but those were insignificant numbers compared to the population

The amerindians that converted to Catholicism and took spanish surnames were referred as "mestizos" to distinguish them from the amerindians that didn't convert and for their mixed cultures of the amerindian and european. Back in colonial times the "mestizos" were just amerindians with spanish surnames, they didn't necessarily have to have european blood. The colonizers were for the most part segregated from the mestizos and the mestizos segregated from the amerindians who didn't convert

During colonial times, when nicaragua was a colony of spain, the country was in its stages of development. one of the spanish colonizers mission was to spread catholicism throughout their colonies. The amerindians who converted to catholicism had more advantages than the amerindians who refused to convert. the converted amerindians lined up to receive spanish names and surnames as there "christian names"

nicaragua doesn't separate by white vs mestizo, they separate between rich and poor. the sociology of Nicaragua and the rest of latin america is based on class, its not the same as the anglo sociology that uses race as a caste system.
'Interatial' marriage is not taboo in nicaragua unlike the u.s where its still taboo for a black and white to marry. Thats why nearly all nicaraguans are "mixed"

The US never colonized Nicaragua formally, but, in effect, the US controlled Nicaragua with its marines (twelve invasions from 1853 to the 1920s) & for its banking & business interests. The US also controlled the Nica goverment by helping the first Somoza take control from Sandino, whose fighters had sent the marines packing back to the US & who was beloved by the Nicaraguan people. The result was a half-century of brutal repression by Somoza & his US marine-trained & funded National Guard.

Nicaraguan mestizos from the Pacific coast are not only a mix of Spanish and Indigenous peoples they're also Afrodescendant. My mother is a Mestizo and she's been legal representative for several indigenous communities in international court lawsuits that the communities won. She's also advised them in creating bills that were later approved and now guarantee their right towards land demarcation.

Like many other countries in Latin America, those who are closely associated with Europeans tend to be viewed as more civilized. Thus, many people living here in America are reluctant to associate themselves to the European side. For example, I have many friends who will state that they are not Mexican, instead they acknowledge more their European side.

@Filterdissman- There were Indigenous in Nicaragua who were much taller than the european. Most Miskito are tall. There are a lot of tall people among us Nicaraguans, because of our Indigenous, and also, because we got mix with Germans, Norwegians, Dutch, Italians, and French. Usually the Spanish tend to be shorter, very few of them are tall.

my parents lived in Nicaraguan and they are Nicaraguans-they told me blacks think mix people don't like them, but that's not true-they told me miskitos were more easy going, because they didn't have that mentality toward mix people-I've heard miskitos have gotten mix with blacks, so, I don't know if they have also become unfriendly against mix people-Nicaragua is less racists than other nations of America-take a look at other nations in America and Europe are more racists.
