  • 2:40 is incredible

  • Still watching in 2011!

  • This song inspired me to write a short story and dedicate it to the only woman I love.

  • are you kidding me?!?!?! This was in Orlando?>@>!#>!<<#!$! WHAT?

Not only did I miss this, but I just discovered this inspiration last week. I think I am in love with her. Is Imogen married?

  • fuck apple.

  • @guitarlad89 Haha i was just thinking that

  • @guitarlad89 Peasant. Now shut up and shine my shoes!

  • every time I listen to this song, I always call my girlfriend and say i love you

  • love it so much!!!!!

  • will you marry me Imogen Heap!!!!

    your sooo awesome and beautiful!

  • watch?v=ZEXp4D9ZQeQ&feature=related dubstep version

  • fuck JASON DERÜLO he copy + paste the voice and pitch it to a bad and gay rnb voice ....

Thumbs up, if you think the same

  • @CSSPWNER1494

Rnb (or his rnb voice?) is not gay, its just common mainstream sellout crap.

  • @Alexpwnsz year, but jason derüüüüülo pitch the voice with 200 cents to a fuck voice ... and make it commercial ... and thats why i hate him

  • @CSSPWNER1494

I hate him to, but I just dont think gay is the right word for it..

  • @Alexpwnsz Dumb*

  • @CSSPWNER1494 Um dumb*

  • Absolutely not. drums completely cheapen the emotion intended in this song. i know this because I heard jason derulo's hiphop song that remixed a portion of this song and I was completely disgusted. Especially if you listen to this song on the track, there are long silences in between the phrases and they are my favorite thing about the song. Those borderline unsettling silences where the emotion of whatever was said last has a couple seconds to sink in. So beautiful

  • good voice, boring song

  • she makes music where you must stand still an close your eyes to lissen to

  • Lol the crappy quality makes it sound like she has a lisp.

  • magikal

  • One of the greatest performance that i have ever seen. a magnificent job on this one!

  • I'm with AliceMay742 on this one, your words speak so such truth because this isn't a song...it is a piece of art.

  • her creativity is astounding this song is amazing i love it!

  • frou frou is the NAME of the group which included Guy Sigworth AND her. Sooo yes, in way she IS frou frou and in a way she isnt exactly... get it? xD hahaha~

SHE MAKES GREAT MUSIC! why should we actually care who is who exactly? =D

  • You do know she is frou frou right...... I hate youtube. People are so dumb.

  • AGREED!

  • SHE is Imogen Heap. Frou Frou was a group she formed with Guy Sigsworth. This song is by Imogen Heap and has nothing to do with Frou Frou.

  • @fasterthanfate and thats why youtube hates you <3

  • Comment removed

  • What the hell are you talking about? Imogen Heap IS Frou Frou, it's the same bloody person xD And no, she did this song as Imogen, not when she was Frou Frou...

  • she isnt frou frou, frou frou was a collaboration she did with guy sigsworth...

  • you don't think I know that? OMG, same bloody thing! OK, she was ONE HALF of Frou Frou, happy now? ;)

  • OMG I KNOW. Who doesn't!?

  • I think you are suffering the "Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana all famous artists have two identities" disease. ;)

lol jk. You're just trying to make a point, I know, but that's what popped in my head. :P

  • Oh, but yes, Frou Frou IS Imogen Heap + Guy Sigsworth, by the way. Just type in "Frou Frou Guy Sigsworth" or whatever. Just a quick Google search, and wa la! :D

  • Whatcha say!!!

  • weird but it sounds nice

  • I honestly love her voice and I believe that her music is a rare, elegant, whimsical enchantment. With people like this, our world is a rare and beautiful thing... we just have to listen...

  • @LNxHC You really have no right to say anything; frankly, your immature, rude and your use of grammer is atrocious. The fact that you felt you had to post a comment like that, shows just how ignorant you are. I hope you learn some manners and some literary skills child.

  • @AliceMay742 yeah because getting involved in someone elses issues, and engaging in an online arguement doesnt make you immature, shut up faggot. no one cares about you

  • @LNxHC theres no need for this.stop biting at each others heels and get along.

  • @AliceMay742 you are nothing but accurate.. as well as appleinspace.

  • @AliceMay742 Lovely comment. Clearly you have a strong sense of beauty as shown through your words and their meanings.

  • This song is pretty

  • awesome hair.

  • She is brilliant, imo. Very musical, very different, very inspiring.

  • you forgot very original. this is great!

  • fantastic....

  • i dont understand how ne one could have a negitive comment comment about her... not only is her voice wonderful her writing of music is so ... well words dont make meaning of it... all i can say is if i wanted to listen to a song by a girl singing about something i've heard 50 times before and the pop culture pushes down my thoat id be listening to tayler swift or some other dumb cunt. This is music at it's fulliest and the best. Thank god for real music like IH or i wouldnt listen

  • Amen.

  • Beautiful...

  • This song is one in a million. One might want to write such work of art and wait a lifetime to achieve it.

On a personal note I would like to add that this song is precious to me because it's beauty comforted me on several occassions while I was waiting for my son to be born.

So from the bottom of my hear: thank you Imo!

  • I love how she can sing a capella, using only the assistance of a vocal harmonizing program, and still manage to make me cry. So simple, yet so unbelievably powerful.

  • thats a vocoder, not a harmonizing proggie

  • you're an idiot.

  • stupid comment?

  • Not really her songs? What the fuck are you talking about? And her hair's amazing, btw.

  • she is GREAT composer and producer!!!!how can she find all these beautiful and interesting harmonies.and it alwas stays a pop song.this is pop like I want

  • I have to disagree with you, BIG TIME. What Imogen is does definately NOT pop. Not at all

  • she isnt, she is like techno and soul

  • nah. I don't think you can really put her in a category, cus there's no music in the world that's like her music, her music is just simply Imogen :) and it's the most awesome music on the planet !

  • not in all of her songs

  • fuckin awesome.. artist as in the sense of the word ART-ist

  • I was here at this show! I loved how intimate it was back then. Now with her growing popularity, I bet her shows are bigger and more crowded.

  • Pretty sure this is done with the TC Electronics VoiceLive effects pedal. Harmonies are triggered by notes she plays on the keyboard, sent MIDI into the TC. The part near the end she uses a sampler to capture a phrase the first time, then let it repeat while she sings over it. I'm sure the mac is used on other songs, but it's hardly the "secret." The technology is amazing - still gotta have the captivating voice and the creativity to play all those cool chord voicings - and she's got it.

  • it sounds like a digitech one. i had one (i sold it 5 days ago) but i have a video of me using it in my youtube channel . just search digitech talker , and my video is the first on ei think. i play " umbrella" by rhianna on it and some daft punk

  • It's an awesome song, and she's a great singer, but. . .

but I can't help but think of "Dear Sister", The OC, and people dying hilariously when I hear 3:00 . . .

  • I love how unpretentious she is! And I also love how she always has a crapload of electronics on stage with her when she does live performances, lol! ^.^

  • lolz i like the look she gives at the end! i think she's just freakin amazing!

  • Frakkin' brilliant!!!

    mh

  • wow!!! awesome!!

  • my favourite singer :)

  • i dont think people realise how hard it is to sing solo with only you controling your sound and music.

almost no one sounds exactly like their mastered album. imo i think shes just as good live.

  • i like her hair totally cool

  • Comment removed

  • it must be very hard for her to sing this song because it would bring back all those bad memories that inspired her to write this song because its about her parent divorse and she was really upset

  • dude ^^ other people lost their parents ... i think she will make it

  • Too funny :)

  • But not just that, she'll think of all the people who died to this song XD

  • 2:59 to 3:30 is the only part I knew. This band rocks!!!!!

  • band?

  • sry...

    girl???

I think her voice changes from the mackbook???

    Do you agree???

  • she is playing a keyboard. if you didn't notice her arms moving rhythmically.

  • haha, the macbook is the secret!

  • well, could be :)

Depends whether she's running her voice through a hardware or sotware vocoder. From what i've read she chose a hardware approach, but i wouldn't put my money on it.

Either way she has to play the synth which is then modulated by her voice. ;)

  • it's not a band. she's solo

  • not a band imogen heap is a solo singer

  • wow...

  • Definitely one of the best performances of this song I've heard LIVE

  • OMG YOUR SETTING(the flowers around her equipment) is AMAZINGLY CREATIVE!

its like.. soo... postive... and.. ahh i dk flowery love?

    lol

    TOTALLY AWESOME

  • she sounds a bit better on this performance rather than some others that were unfortunatly faliures. she sounds ok on this one...

  • Weird, I'm the other way round. Think her album's pretty mediocre, but seeing her do all the live production wizardry gave her far more credibility for me. Seen her live a couple of times now, and "Just For Now" a capella/looped/mixed live is the most impressive. She's an impressive live perform imo.

  • same here. i was absolutely blown away when i saw her live. such a different experience than listening to her cd alone. you don't realize how amazing it is to watch it being created right in front of your eyes, and the energy is off the charts. raw raw talent in this girl.

  • Immi is an angel!!!!

  • No. It is a Stompbox made by Digitech. The digitech "Talker"

    I love this song.

  • Btw: You CAN apply Harmonizers AND Vocoders simulateously. the Album mix isn't as "wet" as here, since it is a bit harder to use on stage. Vocoders need a lot of concentration playing & singing and watching the feedbacks from the monitors/PA. Big up for Imogen to try it, it's always risky do to it LIVE! (hope that helped a bit)

  • Vocoders take a Carrier Signal (Synth) and Modulate the Signal of the Microphon onto it. Basically it consists of Bandpasses that analyse the signal and patch it to another BPF in the synthesis section. See: Kraftwerk. A Harmonizer generates second (and more) Voices which is a bit like a very good and real-time Pitch-Shifter. So no, Harmonizer isn't a Vocoder and vice versa, both can be controlled by MIDI to set the Pitch (Harmo) or to play the Synth Carrier Signal which "transports" the Voice.

  • That is part of the song...

  • really? the real song doesn't go to a flast POS right there.

  • It's called being creative and improv, when people sound like the CD they kinda sound like a robot...

  • yeh ever so slightly lets see you do that

  • man i love her.

sadly the only song i really love.

    but amazing

    xxx

  • *kayleah* "the album sound IS a lot better, but I would NEVER pass up the chance to see her perform it live"

    Hear hear!

I first heard this song live (on youtube) and it took me a while to like the studio version after the raw emotion and edge of her live performances.

Bravo Imi, you rule the soundwaves!

  • Not jealous, but she does look like a methed out whore. That is true.

  • WOOT! Yamaha synth she should use a korg though but still a great song.

  • How the hell does she do that? Seriously. Is it sampled before hand, and how does she hold live intonation with those chords, they are deceptively simple but the easiest to hear when off and she's flawless...

  • LOL, That macbook on er table probly has preset mixings on it so she dosent have to do that much work but she does sometimes mix sing and play at the same time and sounds like this she is just rly good at doing what she does

  • It's live, and she's using a "Harmonizer". Google Imogen Heap Harmonizer and you'll find interviews where she talks about it.

  • I could be wrong but I think it's a "Vocoder". It takes her vocal track and adds harmony based on what notes she is playing on the keyboard.

  • Thanks for the clarification. In her interviews she calls it a harmonizer, but maybe that's a generic term for the brand name you're describing.

  • Okay well this is one of my all-time favorite songs, but I have to say this version made me laugh because it sounds like she has a total lisp.

  • THis song gives me goose bumbs any of u guys get goose bumps from this song??

  • jap...alll over my body

  • yeass, especially when it was on the o.c

  • yeah.. one of the best moments of it..

  • really when it comes to having timing with music on film i think that end scene may very well have been the best incorporation i have ever seen. perfect song for that scene

  • umm i know alot (and i mean alot) of people, including me, who think otherwise. Its either the song didn't work for it or the acting on the guy's, (who got shot) part. It kinda made me laugh lol

  • that's because you and those people don't know shit about good stuff.

  • i didn't say i didn't like the song. I absolutely love Immogen Heap. I just think it didn't work for the OC episode

  • Love this song--truely an amazing singer! love the technology she uses--makes it seem like she has a band behind her, without actually having one. :D One of my favorite songs ever!! <3

  • nice!!!!!!!!

  • It's a DigiTech Vocalist Workstation she's using.

  • cool ;)

  • She is using a Vocoder...

    and a mac book.

Not that hard to figure out. :]

  • NICE!

  • oh my god!! how is she doing this? incredible! does anyone know how this program is called??

  • Utterly brilliant application of innovative use of technology with a truly beautiful melody, with the loveliest choice of chordal accompaniment . Spellbinding Accapella for the 21st Century!

  • denice love manch

  • her cd says that there was trains passing by. And if you listen to the cd, it does sound like a trains horn.

anyway, either way, she is absoloutly divine.

  • well first, she got it cut, then she teased it to give it an original look :]

THAT is what happend to her hair, BrainySmurf1 lol

  • thats her real voice.....

  • How does she make her voice sound like that?

  • what do you think the computer is there for?

  • I'm talking specific. Like what program is she using, etc.

  • Yeah, ok ;p

  • I know for a fact she uses ableton live software. However she uses a hardware vocoder (unknown make) to make this specific effect. There are VST vocoder plugins that will work with ableton to achieve this. however I haven't had success with them. I prefer using Reason 4 for vocoding.

  • its called a macpro and a synth...

  • WoW

  • talented !!! music genius!!

  • not only is this song awesome.. she has an accent... she plays the keytar... and now SHE USES MACS TOO!!! I freaking love her!!!!

  • All best musicians are British!

  • That's an ignorant thing to say. You should get out more.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! u just implied that Amy Winehouse and Natasha Bedingfield were good musicians hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • we invented metal

  • Not all british, Some have talents not only british, asian, american and all other continents have talent you idiot, Not only british people !

  • I agree with thebluepirate and SirAndrewll. Radiohead, Coldplay, others.

  • This is one of the greatest vocal songs made!

  • I would be interested in learning how to use a keyboard in conjunction with a microphone in this fashion. Does anyone have an idea?

  • she has alot of wires i love it!

  • music takes away the emotion.. the impact it has on you.. the lyrics.. its good this way..

  • checkout my version. Best melody in the world love this song

  • the whole point of the song is that there is no music, her voice is the music...it takes talent to pull that off, and you just don't seem to get it.

  • You have a very good point.

Plus its very funny if you use the Hmm whatcha say part as a ringtone for when somthing happens hahaha. But still it does take A LOT of talent to do this.

  • I think the most important thing to notice is the Mac. Mac Revolution!!!
