As far as melodic punk goes they're the cream of the crop, but there is an artist from a completely different genre affected my thought process/life in similar ways to that of Bad Religion's. If you're interested in science/philosophy and don't have an aversion to hip hop I would suggest checking Eyedea out. The guy had lyrical concepts that are, in many ways, as freethinking and breathtaking as Greg's.
When i was 16 some hardcore punk dude came on the school bus spouting a song about superman from bad religion he was a freak to me mohawk and spikes not my thing, but i got the song and liked it assuming punk was never my thing when i was around 24 i was board and downloaded a bunch more bad religion and since then they have become my favourite band of all time i don't know why it took so long, i was to judgmental on the punk thing but fuck they are sooooooo good every fucking album !!
@xssRavenssx U talking about bad religions first five years cause that shit kicks ass and to be written when he was 15 is fucking good. Drastic actions is crazy good !!
@BadMuther man, you can just say that after 94 you dont like it anymore, that's ok. to me, there's nothing "done" about, for example, The Empire Strikes First
I've got nothing to say I've got nothing to do All of my neurons are functioning smoothly Yet still I'm a cyborg just like you I am one big myoma that thinks My planet supports only me I've got this one problem, will I live forever? I've got just a short time you see Modern man, evolutionary betrayer Modern man, ecosystem destroyer Modern man, destroy yourself in shame Modern man, pathetic example of Earth's organic heritage
I can recommend a band that has changed my life with a sound rather similar to Bad Religion. Propagandhi. They've been my favorite band for years and they have important things to teach us all with some great thrash/punk in the background and brilliantly poetic lyrics
Basically, the guy is saying that before he heard of Bad Religion, music was an unsignificant part of his life. But after hearing about them, all he listens to now is Bad Religion. So he is asking Greg if he would recommend any other bands. And Greg says...No, he cannot.
I own and know, by heart, every Bad Religion album, minus a few songs from 80-85. While tool hits me harder, because of my spiritual beliefs and the amazing, intricate, music being performed, just under them in my favorite list, for the realist approach and literary meaning on every album. The Bad Religion CD box is set is worth a college education.
Bad Religion is literally the only band I listen to. Every other band's songs by comparison seem so meaningless and vacuous. This has been my favorite band since I'm 13 years old.
I remember when infected came out on the radio when it was new and I was like 12 so I had no real appreciation for their massage but I tell you, if you read Dr Graffins doctoral dissertation you will understand Bad Religion a whole lot better.
@UntamedAxeRage i discovered them when i was 15 ;) but i had to grow up and learn english to understand the lyrics perfectly, so i became a fan when i was 17 :)
@UntamedAxeRage Bad Religion. In MY opinion, the only REAL punk band. The only one that really knows what they talk about. Simply because they're wise, and wisdom is important when you talk about things that affect people.
@wombat9406 It's nice to know I'm not the only person who can say this. I mean, not literally of course, but for the past two weeks solid I've listened to no other music. And I've not listened to anything else in the last 10 years anywhere near as much as I've listened to Bad Religion.
@wombat9406 been listening to them since circa 1993, even have the crossbuster tattoo... but seriously, jack, you gotta broaden your horizons. It has an intelligent, powerful message, absolutely, but music can do more make you just pissed off at the world all the time...
Why are you assuming that I'm pissed off at the world all the time? And why are you assuming that I don't listen to any other music? I said I don't listen to any other BANDS. There are other types of music that don't consist of rock bands y'know :-)
@mccaslin7575 Vanilla Ice was a horrifyingly stupid fad from the early 90's... the lead singer from Bad Religion is a well-spoken, educated man who speaks out against the injustices of society and the injustices of the human condition...
The thing that the guy said about not like "knowing" music until he heard Bad Religion, it was exactly like that for me. I heard American Jesus and fell in love.
Bad Religion does rule! I'm into many indie bands nowadays, but BR will always be one of my top favorties with Sunny Day Real Estate (and Radiohead if my friend reads this).
your friend is reading this with me !! lol i know what u mean .. as for me I started listenin to punk rock thanx to a song by bad religion names '' heaven is falling '' it feels great to say I got into punk rock thanx to bad religion ... back then when offsprinf and green day were the bomb ... look at em now .. oh well ..
Yeah I agree. I was a huge Offspring fan, but when I got into Bad Religion I stopped following the Offspring. They still have great albums like Ignition, Smash and even Ixnay on the Hombre, but I don't keep up on them anymore.
I'm a big fan of Bad Religion ... but Strung out is my fav band ever man .. I proudly carry a Strung out tattoo on my foot but I can leave BR behind .. I remember my teenage delirium for songs like skyscraper ..anxiety and billy ... better off dead oh man let's play bad religion down here in MExico !!
I know some Strung Out. I have the Twisted by Design cd, American Paradox and Exile in Oblivion. I meant to check out more, but I never really got around to it.
Ya you can have more than one PhD, you can earn multiple or be bestowed with them from respect or lifetime accomplishments. And after a PhD is a post-doc fellowship, which is extremely common ... who the heck would want to go back to school for another PhD after 10 years of post-secondary? Could be fun if you were wealthy enough that you don't need to pay for living but that doesn't apply to most or all of us.
that's why gurewitz has a tremendous composing gift. Same as graffin. They are a perfect duo, Only to be compared with Freddie Mercury and Brian May. They created and reinvented a music movement.

MR. bretts writes some increible lyrics, his are alot more symbollic, and allude to lots of other things. graffins, usually are slightly more literal and usually make someone one pull out the dictionary.
true, though with Brett being the owner of the worlds largest indi label, he has always wanted the number 1 record, he wrote 21st Century Digital Boy, which is really poppy, and fast paced, he wanted as a single to go to no1

yeah, Brian Baker really is a top notch guitarist, Baker turned down touring with REM, to tour with BR.
not to mention Brooks Wackerman, and Jay Bentley are great.
but Brett is more rythmic, and perhaps more pop, than Gregg.
