We had discussed adding contaminants to the oil or running nitro through it, but decided to just use regular oil. This engine was barely "rebuilt" and only enough to get it running for the blow. The crankshaft had 1/8" play in the rod bearings! I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did.

Yeah, but it's possible to rebuild it-i've seen it done before. In fact, they may have rebuilt it. Was there oil in it?
